TODAY’S GOSPEL TELLS US . . .

Gospel: John 1:6-8, 19-28

ohn the Baptist is sure about his own identity because he is sure

about the identity of Jesus. John knows himself to the precursor

of the greater One yet to come, whose sandal strap he is not even worthy

to untie. His self-knowledge enables John to be who God intends him to

be; not the Messiah, but the one who points beyond self to the

Messiah’s presence. If we are asked, “Who are you?” can we be so sure

about our own identity in relation to Jesus that our lives too point to

him?

John the Baptist in the gospel describes the great difference that

exists between who he is and who Jesus is. By implication, the same

great difference exists between Jesus and us. Yet, in the second reading

Paul makes clear that God indeed diminishes this difference through

the grace of the Spirit in whom we are made “perfectly holy” and are

Word of Life “He is always with us. Jesus promised this when he gave the disciples the same mission he gives to each of us: Go. … Walk with each other. Do not be afraid to embrace God’s gift of life. Whatever storms or trials we face, we are not alone. He is with us.” USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities 2017-18 Respect Life Reflection, www.bit.ly/2x31e1X “My spirit rejoices in God my Savior” - Isaiah 61:10

As we rejoice this Advent in the coming of the Savior, we can plan how to share that joy with others. Now there is a simple way to plan your Will online. In addition to caring for your family when you are gone, remember to include the parish endowment fund in these plans. “We ask for the grace to make our faith more and more operative through acts of charity.” — Pope Francis

Thank You for Giving!

This year’s #GivingTuesday was a success! Together we raised $11,960 for Catholic

Climate Covenant, Haiti180 and Life Teen International to further their

mission. Together we can build vibrant parishes, a vibrant Church, and help one

another change the world.

On June 18, 2015 Pope Francis challenged us to reflect on the ways we use our resources and care for God’s creation. As we prepare for the upcoming holiday season, it is not too early to plan 2018 Earth Day celebrations for your parish community. Observed annually on April 22nd, Earth Day is an opportunity for us to reflect on how we use our resources to care for God’s creation. The theme for next year’s Earth Day is... “Beyond a Throwaway Culture: Reduce Waste – Grow Community.” visit https://archatl.com/catholic-life/refreshatl/ to learn more about the Archdiocese of Atlanta Laudato Si’ Action Plan and find additional tips and ideas to help create a more sustainable world in harmony with God.

The Office of Intercultural and Ethnic Diversity invites you to participate in our MLK Jr. Celebration taking place January 14, 20-21, 2018. Our theme for this year is... “Live in Peace and the God of Love and Peace Will Be With You” Guests to all events are invited to bring canned goods, clothing or cleaning products for donation to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Georgia. Please share this information in your parish bulletin, newsletters and social media. For more information about the 2018 MLK Jr. Celebration, please contact Mr. Ashley Morris, Associate Director of the Office of Intercultural and Ethnic Diversity, at [email protected] or 404-920-7586.
