STATEMENT OF NEED The genetic basis of cancer and the role of genomic and genetic testing in cancer diagnosis, prognosis and treatment is rapidly advancing. This program will help medical professionals keep up to date with the current standards and roles of genetic testing to diagnose and treat cancer. ACTIVITY GOALS AND DESCRIPTION This program will provide a review of cancer genetics for several common cancers. Speakers will describe new diagnostic approaches that employ genetic and genomic evaluation, and they will discuss proper application of these tools for improved patient care. The primary goal of this activity is to present recent advances and applications for genetic and genomic testing for the diagnosis, staging and treatment of cancer. LEARNING OBJECTIVES After attending this activity, participants will be able to: Describe the genetics of common cancers, specifically colorectal cancer, thyroid cancer, endometrial cancer and breast cancer. Apply new genetic applications for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer, thyroid cancer and breast cancer. Recognize the role of comprehensive genomic testing in tumors for precision medicine applications. Discuss current concepts in cancer genomics, cancer immunology and immunotherapy. INTENDED AUDIENCE The target audience for this activity will be persons in the medical field who care for cancer patients, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, RNs, NPs, PAs and others. Many genetic and genomic applications require proper collaboration and communication between multiple disciplines, thus this program is intended for any members of the healthcare team that participate in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of cancer. ACCREDITATION Albert Einstein College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CREDIT DESIGNATION Albert Einstein College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM . Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
