Under Museum Movement two Live Demonstrationprograms of Tribal Arts and Crafts were organized in the
Museum campus from 23rd- 3OthApril, 2014 and from24th-30th Septemb er, 2Ol4 where 40 nos of Tribal Artists fromeight (PWG) Tribat Communities such as Lanjia Saora,
Gond Kolha/Ho, Santaf Bathudi, Bonda, Kutia Kandha and
Lodha and 3l nos of Tribal Artists from six TribalCommuqities (+tWC+ZST) such as Lanjia Saora, DongriaKandha, Juangr Kutia Kandha, Mahali and Bhottadarespectively were participated and demonstrated theirtraditionalArt & Craft s respectively.

fumished with gypsum ceiling and new
light arrangement is done for theconvenience of the reader. In the mean
time, new reading room has beencompleted which will be used for journal
and news paper reading. I 1525 pages ofoldand rare books has been digitised.

1) Ministry of Tribal Aftairs, GoI organized lst meeting ofExpertAdvisory Group (EAG) atAuditorium of SCSTRTI
on22r'd & 23rd August'2014. At the same time national
level workshop on 'Improving Development Programmes
in Tribal Areas : Capacity Enhancements to Strengthen
Service delivery of Tribal Development Programmes inIndia" was'organized with about 130 participants from
different states. It was a World Bank Technical Assistance
Projeit.
During this period some newstudies have
been taken up on different aspects and
those which have bqen taken up earlier
are either completed or still in progress.
l. CTRAN submitted a draft report on"Evaluation study of various incomegenerating activities undertaken bythe ST & SC Dev. Deptt during the
last five years and its outcome and
appropriateness". This report is nowunder thorough examination.
2. The following four research projects

3. The institute is going to take up the

Outcome study of various livelihood
interventions extended in ITDAs under
SCA to TSP and Art-275(1) schemes in
improving the economic conditions.
Ethnic Status StudiesEthnic status studies are also been under taken for communitieslike Boda, Bagal and Rajual.
Proposals and datasheets for cases pendiqg for inclusion in the
ST list of Odisha were submitted to the Task Force constitutedbv MoTA, Golt. of India for consideration. These were
presented in 3 volumes i.e. Volume-I containing 4 cases as newentry, Volume-Il containing 79 cases as synonyrnous/Sections
/phoneticvariations andVolume-III 3 rejected cases. The matteris under active consideration by Govt. of India and in the meantime the Task Force has submitted its report recommending forinclusion of 15 namesin the ST list ofOdisha.

SLSC MeetingsThe Caste Status Experts (OSD & DD) have attended SLCCmeetings convened by the RDCs of Central, Northen and
Southern Divisions for disposal of the cases of Fake Caste
Certificates.
The Deputy Director and the Officer on Special Duty have
attended a number of the SLSC meetings convened by the
Revenue Divisional Commissioner, Southern Division,Berhampur and the Officer on Special Duty (Research) has
attended a number of SLSC meetings convenedbythe Revenue
Divisional Commissioner, Northern Divisiory Sambalpur and
Central Division, Cuttack to examine and finalize the cases ofFake Caste Certifi cates.

has been published.

GovemmentofOdishahasselectedtwotribalrepresentativesnamelySriMahendraBaghandSmt.AhalyaBaghof KisanTribe fromITDA, Kuchinda to visit New Delhi to witness 26thJanuary 2014 Republic Day Parade at New Delhi with the escort officer Sri A K.
Gomango. DD, SCSTRTI, Bhubaneswar as per request of MOTA. Besides that they visited Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Parliament
House, Lotus Temple, Air Force Museum etc.
It gives me immense pleasure on the release of the combinedissue of the Newsletter (2nd & 3rd issue of Vol-IV) ofScheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and
Training Institute (SCSTRTI) which incorporates various
activities of the institute in brief. SCSTRTI is the premierresearch institute of the country committed to carry outdifferent research studies on STs and SCs to enrich the pool ofknowledge and disseminate information to the State
Government as well as the Central Government forformulation of plans and policies. It has also been conferred
with the status of Nodal Research Institute bythe Ministry ofTribalAffairs (VtotA), Covt. oflndia.
Besides, the institute conducts empirical research on issues
pertaining to tribes and publishes reports which are furtherused by various agencies as reference. This institute is the sole
i-nstitute which conducts ethnic status studies on various
communities and during the period, ethnic status studies onthree communities was carried out. Apart from this, the
institute also publishes different valuable books on SCs and
STs which are of immense help to the researchers,
academicians as well as students. The institute has a welltumished library with more than 20,000 rare and valuable
books giving it the distinction of one of the bestanthropological libraries of the ,country. It is also being
enriched with addition of new books
everyyear.
There is a Tribal Museum withexquisite collection of Tribal art and
artefacts and a PVTG galleryshowcasing the pristine culture of 13
PVTGs of Odisha which is a point ofattraction for a large number of domestic as well as foreignvisitors. This issue has tried to focus on various events such as
live demonstration programmes by various artists during theperiod in the Tribal Museum, National and State level
workshops and seminar and a meeting on Expert AdvisoryGroup (EAG) organizedbyMoTA Moreover, it also records a
number of training prografirmes on various subjects likedifferent prote ctive le gislations and djfferent Acts concerningSCs and STs etc. which were organized during the period forspreadin g awareness 2 m ongvarious stake holders.
I hopo this issue of the Newsletter which is the minor of thisirutitute will reach out to a wider spectrum of readers whose
valuable suggestions will go a long way in improving theNewsletter.
