Regards!

John Redfield Lt. Governor of Division 22/24

How are you guys doing? I hope that, even though the seniors are gone, we are continuing strong in each of our clubs! We are all finally winding down the school year: cramming for our last finals, practicing our signatures on yearbooks, and wishing farewell to those who are graduating.

Speaking of which, I just recently visited my sister’s college graduation, and while watching the awards I was amazed. So many individuals standing on that podium strived for greatness, and they reached near-impossible goals. The perseverance, relentlessness and tenacity each of these people put into these academic awards can be emulated by all of us. I thought it was encouraging to see these people stand up here. It gave me a message: if you want something, you have to go out and grab it. Despite all obstacles, make the move!

With that message, let’s not sit stagnant as new officers! There are plenty of opportunities to serve your communities in the summer, and I have a few suggestions that I would like to share with you to get each and every one of you off of your couch. With all these volunteer opportunities, including Seattle Rally, I hope that your summer vacation can be constructive, and at the same time, fulfilling! I’ll see you all soon!

Eliminate Project and District Convention 2014!

We will also be discussing further ideas for summer service projects to keep our

clubs active in the summer!

I hope to see you all at the DCM! There’s a Facebook event page where you can vote on the most convenient day. Please submit your vote on the poll!

School Visits

4 Official Newsletter of PNW Division 22/24

Starting in September, I will be fulfilling

my mandatory school outreach visits.

Technically, I need to visit each school

at least once. But I can drop by as

many times as you want me to!

Please email or text me at least two

weeks in advance if you would like me

to drop by your club on a certain date.

Otherwise, I will be set dates myself.

Could you help me in this process?

Upcoming Events

Summer Service Project at Mary’s Place

Mrs. Tara Miller, a volunteer coordinator at the Church of Mary

Magdalene’s and Mary’s Place, has requested that we assist her to

partake in regular activities with children ages 1-17 all throughout

the summer. Planning outings, doing crafts or storytime, or bringing

games would be great ways to connect with the kids this summer.

This is of high priority, because I was referred to Mrs. Miller by my

Kiwanis Advisor. If you are willing to get a group of friends to

volunteer, please call Mrs. Miller at 206-621-8474 and contact me.

Seattle Rally 2013

Seattle Rally happening on August 12th, 2013! What is Seattle Rally?

It’s basically DCON, but smaller and shorter. Currently, my fellow

Lieutenant Governors and I have scheduled Seattle Rally to be at

Hazen High School in Renton, and to start at 9:30ish and end

around 3:00pm. It’s a really great experience, an awesome way to

meet key clubbers across our district! I hope you all can come.

Key Club 5k

On August 3rd, 2013, Key Club divisions are planning to run together

in the 5k Foam Fest and Mud Run in Seattle. This is going to be an

exhilarating experience, especially since our group will be so large.

If you want to spend some fun in the sun and you aren’t busy this

day, I really encourage you to show up! It’ll be a blast!!

That’s all for now, but I’ll keep you posted!

It’s getting hot out here! Don’t let the

heat stroke make you forget our

glorious

Vision

1) More active involvement

2) More joint opportunities

3) More spirit!

What do I mean by more active involvement? This year I hope to work with the presidents,

vice presidents, and bulletin editors of each school to ensure that the awareness level of

Key Club remains at an all time high. We need to show the world that we’re the biggest

and the best service club ever!! If you have any suggestions how to better the active

membership of Key Clubs in schools, or need any help raising membership levels, please

keep in close contact with me!

I want each of our schools to foster the belief that our clubs are part of one great family:

Division 22/24. There may be some rivalry between schools, but rivalry cannot be

condoned between our clubs! This year, I hope to provide as many joint volunteer

opportunities as possible. In doing so, I want to bridge the progressively growing gap

between our schools so that we can realize that we’re all working together. Let’s put our

differences behind us and make a great foundation for years to come!

This year we won the spirit stick. It was a great honor, and a great privilege. The spirit stick

was a reminder of our boundless passion that we have for our Key Clubs. However, we

must move further and show that we will have as much spirit in the upcoming year as we

did in the last. To start this “Spirit Campaign”, I will be designing several clothing items for

our division, and based on interests levels you guys can help me to decide what to order.

We will also have a joint gathering to decorate our spirit stick. Keep an eye out for

updates as this process unfolds!

What is the Eliminate Project?

What is Maternal/Neo-natal Tetanus (MNT)?

Whose lives are at stake?

The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to terminate MNT

on an international basis

In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can

quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine

minutes. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful

convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of

survival. And tetanus kills mothers too.

7

MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil, come into contact with open

cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the

geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

What can we do to help? Through annual events such as Eliminate Week and simpler events such as

bake sales or car washes, we can fundraise to help eradicate and eliminate

MNT. A seemingly measly amount of $1.80 is enough to save the life of a

mother and her newborn child. Don’t hesitate! Let’s start fundraising today!!
