Laskowski is WaMaC East Coach of the YearMirek Laskowski, who
guided Beckman to a state runner-up finish in Class 1A, was named the WaMaC East Conference’s Coach of the Year. Additionally, nine mem-bers of the Beckman team and four Western Dubuque players also earned confer-ence accolades.
Beckman’s Travis Guden-kauf, Jared Lueken, Adam Noethe and Ben Wessels were first-team honorees, along with WD’s Jordan Perry.
WD’s Devon Beacom was a second-team selection, along with Beckman’s Eric Dunkel, Daniel Goerdt and Ryan Lansing.
Beckman’s Kyle Grover and Jay Wessels were hon-orable mention, along with WD’s Andrew Meyer and Jose Gomez. The complete listing follows.

Bobcats, Blazers earn WaMaC East accoladesNine area girls soccer
players were recently named to the WaMaC East All-Conference girls soccer teams.
Western Dubuque’s Liana Staner and Beck-man’s Becca Deutmeyer were both first-team honorees. Beckman’s Erin Gallagher earned second-team recogni-tion along with WD’s Corrina Savolt and Chrissy Thomas. WD’s Madison Simon and Kayla Guden-kauf, along with Beckman’s Courtney Pirc and Danielle Baumler earned honorable mention status. The com-plete team follows.

Date set for announcement of 2013 queenThe queen of the 52nd annual Farley Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament will be announced between games on July 12. Western Dubuque swept visiting Dubuque Wahlert in softball action, while losing single games to Alburnett and Monticello at Farley last week.
O n Ju l y 5 , We s t e r n Dubuque defeated the Gold-en Eagles, 4-0, in the first game. Winning pitcher Molly Lembezeder allowed four hits while striking out seven.
The Bobcats scored a run in the first and three more in the second.
Ashley Botsford was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for Western Dubuque. Aubrey Maiers was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Marissa Kluesner and Raegan Hoefler each had a hit. Zoey Weber was cred-ited with two RBI’s for the Bobcats.
In the second game, West-ern Dubuque won, 2-0. The Bobcats scored both runs in the second inning and made them hold up for the win.
Western Dubuque man-aged only three hits in the game. Ashley Botsford, Jes-sica White, and Abbey Koer-perich each had hits.
Payton Hilby earned the shutout win for the Bobcats. She allowed five hits and struck out three.
The next day, the Bobcats lost to Monticello, 6-0. Mon-ticello scored two runs in the first, three in the second and one in the seventh while lim-iting Western Dubuque to four hits.
Weber, Botsford, and Ab-bey Koerperich each doubled for the Bobcats. Maiers had a single.
Lembezeder was the losing pitcher. She threw six innings, allowing six runs on six Pan-
ther hits. Lembezeder struck out four. Payton Hilby threw the seventh inning, allowing no hits and striking out one.
On July 2, Alburnett defeat-ed Western Dubuque, 7-5, in a game that saw the Bobcats bang out 12 hits.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Western Dubuque tied the score on Jessica White’s two-out single that scored Botsford.
In the second inning, West-ern Dubuque had three hits, but could only manage one run. Kluesner scored on We-ber’s sacrifice fly.
The top of the third saw Alburnett score four runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Pirates added a single run in the fifth to make the score 6-2.
Western Dubuque got a run back in its half of the fifth. Botsford’s single scored Weber. Later in the inning a double by White put runners on second and third with two
outs. A fly out to left field end-ed the Bobcat threat.
Alburnett scored again in the sixth to make the score 7-3.
In the bottom of the sixth Marissa Conrad’s pinch-hit double scored Kluesner and Allison Schmitt. A single by Weber put runners on first and third with one out. Albur-nett made a pitching change, bringing in Danica Windfield, who struck out the next two Bobcat batters.
Winfield shut the Bobcats down in the seventh for the 7-5 win.
Botsford was 3-for-4, while Weber, White, and Kluesner all had two hits for Western Dubuque. Lembezeder, Rae-gan Hoefler, and Conrad each had a hit in the game.
Lembezeder was the los-ing pitcher. She went all seven innings, allowing eight hits, while striking out three.

W i t h B e n n e t K l o s -termann’s four-under par 66 leading the way, the Dy-ersville Golf and Country Club Eastern Iowa (EIGA) team topped visiting Wa-konsa of Durant/Wilton July 6, 699-764.
The total was a one-under par composite for ten golfers, and came just short of the record 692 set two years ago. Besides Klostermann’s 35-31=66, Nate Trumm added 68, Casey Wachendorf, Tom Martin and Todd Steffen 69, Chance Maiers 70, Mike Tauke 71, Mark Wessels and Terry Bockenstedt 72, and
one of two 73s from Dan Fitzgerald and John Can-non rounded out the total.
Low for Wakonsa’s 23 golfers was a 72 from both Nick Dohrmann and Adam McNamara. 33 players competed from the home team.
For the day, $392 went into the EIGA scholarship fund.
