Talk on Building Your Family Archives

Dyg Masniah Awg Damit of the Brunei Nationa lArchives showed a group of about 20 children aged 8-10 years how to start a Family Archives..The aim was to instill in them the fun way of collecting familymemorablia which can be accumulated and later sorted out and chronicled into a scrap

book outlining all the main family events within the family from births, birthdays, special famlly events, first achievements .

Talk on Hand Crafted books and Folders

Dyg Rozi Dato Paduka Hj Yunos is a talented and creative person and this can be seen from the products of her hand crafted books and folders she has made to fulfill orders for engagements , weddings, birthdays,and special gifts for loved ones. She used a variety of materials and accessories for her works which added value and colour to the finished

products. She also runs workshops for interested groups.

It is with great sadness that we learnt of the untimely demise of Awg Hj Abdul Ghani Mohamad BLA Anugerah Pustakawan Berbakti Awardee and his wife who lost their lives on 20 Dec 2011 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

I have known Awg Hj Abdul Ghani since 1956 when we were class mates in Sekolah Melayu Mohamad Alam Seria. We met again briefly when we studied in Sekolah Melayu Jamalul Alam as our parents moved to Bandar Brunei (now BSB) in 1957. In 1966 I met Awg Hj Abdul Ghani again as he was working in the then Education Department, Jalan James Pearce as I was finalising my government scholarship applications to study in the UK. Our paths crossed yet again when we ended working together as librarians In the library of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei in Bandar Seri Begawan when I reported for duty in early 1974 and we have been long time friends ever since, even after retirement. He was also an active member of the Brunei Darussalam Library Association since its establishment in 1986 and had served on the Board as its Treasurer for many years.

Many will remember the late Awg Hj Abdul Ghani fondly known as ‘Cikgu’ who was a long time colleague and loyal friend to many of us especially those who have known and worked with him at the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Library in Bandar Seri Begawan. He was a dedicated librarian, a hard working, a helpful and generous person. He was a champion in Cataloguing and many would seek his help and advice and he would be forever willing to help and give his time. At all times he showed his professionalism in his work. He should be an inspiration to other young librarians as he was an exemplary role model librarian who worked his way up rank-in-file to become an outstanding librarian. For his continuous contribution to the profession, BLA awarded him the Anugerah Pustakawan Berbakti. His passing will be missed by the library and the information community. Terlebih dahulu marilah kita menghadiahkan Surah Al-Fatihah kepada Allahyarham Hj Abd Ghani bin Mohamad.Secebis kenangan bersama Awang Hj Abd Ghani bin Mohamad Saya mengenali Hj Abd Ghani bin Mohamad pada tahun 1970 apabila saya mula berkhidmat sebagai Pembantu Perpustakaan di Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei. Ketika itu beliau menjawat jawatan sebagai Pegawai Perpustakaan. Hj Abd Ghani merupakan seorang pegawai yang rajin dan dedikasi dalam tugasnya. Beliau mahir dalam bidang pengkatalogan. Beliau amat mudah untuk diajak berbincang dalam apa jua masalah kerja. Saya lebih bayak mendapat ilmu pengetahuan dalam bidang perpustakaan amnya dan bidang pengkatalogan khususnya. From page 7kosong saya bertanya kepada beliau adakah beliau memohon jawatan berkenaan, kalau beliau memohon saya tidak akan memohonnya untuk memberi laluan kepada beliau tetapi beliau dengan tegas mengatakan tidak akan memohon dan mencadangkan saya untuk memohonnya, barulah saya memohon jawatan Ketua Perpustakan di Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei.

Sejak itu beliau bertugas di bawah arahan saya, nanum demikian walaupun beliau bertugas di bawah arahan saya sebagai ketua, saya tetap menghormati beliau kerana beliau lebih tua daripada saya danmempunyai banyak pengalaman. Ketika saya sebagai ketua Perpustakaan saya melantik beliausebagai Ketua Bahagian Rujukan dan Maklumat, kerana saya berpendapat bahawa bahagian tersebutmasih belum begitu bergerak, dan menepati fungsinya, setelah beliau Pemegang Ketua Rujukanbarulah bahagian tersebut menampakkan fungsi sebenar sebagai rujukan.Saya amat berterima kasih kepada beliau.

Ketika ada jawatan kosong sebagai Penolong Kanan Ketua Perpustakaan diiklankan, maka saya punmencadangkan supaya beliau memohonnya dan saya tidak ragu-ragu untuk menyokong beliau sebagai Penolong Kanan Ketua Perpustakaan berdasarkan kepada kebolehan dan pengalaman yang ada padanya.

Saya sesungguhnya amat senang bekerja dengan beliau.Oleh Awang Hj Abu Bakar Hj Zainal

Diucapkan sekalong takziah kepada keluarga Allahyarham Hj Abd Ghani bin Muhammad & Isteri yang telah kembali ke rahmatullah dalam kemalangan di KK. Tidak disangka yang pertemuan kami dengan beliau pada Persidangan LAM dan malam gala nite pada 2 Dis yang lalu adalah yang terakhir buat kami. Penghargaan Anugerah Pustakawan Berbakti yang diberikan pada beliau pada malam itu adalah sungguh2 bermakna pada beliau dan saya secara peribadi sangat berbangga sekali dengan kejayaan yang telah dikecapi.
