OUT OF MY MIND Tim Hughes, Senior Minister
We need God’s grace. There is no way we will ever be able to deserve or be good enough to earn our way into heaven. Kevin Miller of Christianity Today tells a story that helps us understand our need for God’s grace. One evening a teenage girl was driving with some friends and she backed into a light pole. The pole broke off and fell forward, crashing down onto the car. A 12 year old friend in the car was severely injured and in fact she was brain dead when she arrived at the hospital.
The next day the hospital chaplain visited the driver of the car in her hospital room. Physically she was recovering well, but emotionally, she was very upset since she knew that her actions had caused the death of her friend. She told the chaplain, “I’m going to be like a daughter to her parents.” I’m going to go over to their house every day and baby-sit for them. I’ll wash dishes for them every night. I’ll go over there every week and mow their lawn.”
Unfortunately for this young lady, no matter how many dishes she washed or how many times she mowed the lawn for the parents of her friend, it would not be enough to replace their daughter. All she could do is say how sorry she was and ask them for forgiveness.
The same is true in our relationship with God. There is no way we could ever do enough to make up for the sin we have committed. So we show God our repentant life, our changed heart and we ask Him for forgiveness. It is only through His forgiveness that we are able to be a part of the Kingdom of God. Our life is spent, not trying to pay Him back for what He has done but to say thank you for what He has done. When we tell someone else about the love of God and the forgiveness that comes through Jesus it is like one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.

Way to go Men!
The Cornerstone men brought home two trophies Monday night. We brought home the 2011 Mileage Trophy to keep and started off 2012 by bringing home the traveling Attendance Trophy for January. We had 18 men attend, a record for us; the total attendance was 105 men representing 12 churches. The general offering was $1,131 and Clermont Christian donated the meal money for a total offering of $1,707 for the camp.
Next month we travel to Southport Heights and should be in the running for the mileage trophy for the month of February. Circle February 20 on your calendar and plan on going with us. The meals are great, the worship is uplifting, and fellowship is outstanding. Men, plan on bringing your sons and grandsons with you as well.
Camp Allendale Update
Well, we are getting ready for a new camping season. Since Cornerstone is a partner church, we can register early. Online registration opens February 19. See Ben for information. We will also be paying a portion of our camper fees.
Be praying for the camp staff and program directors as they enter into the planning phase for this year. There are a lot of challenges this year: how to get 9 weeks of camp into 7 weeks; how to have enough beds for all to the camp sessions. Pray for volunteers to assist in the various activities to make camp run effectively. Last year they had over 600 volunteers.
How can we be involved at Camp Allendale? I’m glad you asked. Spring work days will be set. There are normally 5 Saturday’s set aside in April and running into May. Partner churches will be given assignments. Church groups are encouraged to arrive between 8:00-9:00 am. Most projects should take about 25 man hours.
If Saturday’s don’t work for you and a weekday would be better for one or two of you, Randy said
Church Administrator David Keith
they have all kinds of small jobs to be completed before camp opens.
It’s not too early to begin talking to your in Home Bible Study group or your Sunday School class about signing up for a project. Your labor saves the Camp money; you have the opportunity to help Allendale remain a top notch facility; you can build some new friendships; you won’t leave hungry. Let me know which Saturday you want to select or contact Camp Allendale directly (317.878.4400).
Remember: “Unless we reach their hearts today, they will break our hearts tomorrow!”
NACC 2012
This year the North American Christian Convention is in Orlando, Florida. The entire NACC program, hotel accommodations, restaurants, and recreational areas are all under one roof at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort. Mark your calendar: July 10-13.
There are several restaurants on the property offering special NACC pricing, in addition to the all-inclusive under-ten-dollar meal deals offered through the NACC. The NACC hotel rate is $110/night, plus tax and parking. The recreational activities are free for all hotel guests. These activities include gigantic pools, tennis, game room, weight room, and more.
The 2012 NACC Program Schedule gives you free time to visit the exhibit hall, play golf with friends, or relax with a glass of sweet-tea by the pool. Extended meal breaks give you time to visit NACC Exhibits, connect with friends and family, spend time in prayer, and be refreshed.
Something new this year: Post Convention Cruise. The cruise date is July 14-19. For more information go to www.gotonacc.org. With so many changes in the school calendar this might be a good way to be stretched, inspired and healed at the convention and then get in some much needed vacation time with the family.

Mark you calendars...March 25 CIY Reminder
Remember, this Sunday, January 29, is the deadline for signing up for CIY Move (Senior High only). The trip is filling up fast, and we can only take as many as the bus can hold. If we hit our max number before Sunday, we will have to close the trip early. In order to sign up, turn in $50 in an envelope with your name on it. Collin will send an email confirming your reservation.
Kid’s Church
We are finishing up our “Winter X” series and are now ready to head off to “Berry Blast Theme Park.” There we will learn about the fruit of the spirit and how to use it every day. If you want a sneak peak go on and read Galatians 5:22-23; But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. This is going to be a fun series, so fasten your seatbelt and hang on for a fun ride!
Baby Dedication, Save the Date
Baby dedication will be on March 4, so mark your calendar. If your family wishes to participate in this event, please contact Ben.
Lunch with Ben
I have gotten the chance to eat lunch with some of the kids from CCC and it’s been great to get to know you better and meet some of your friends! If you want me to come and eat lunch with you at your school, please have your parents email me with your school name, grade, time of lunch and teacher and I’d be happy to schedule a time.
VBS 2012
OK, Vacation Bible School is quite a ways off, July 15-20, but I wanted to start by getting you thinking about it. It’s a great opportunity for CCC to teach children about Jesus. Start praying now for the lives that will change, for the volunteers that will serve, and for God to do amazing things, (as He always does) through this summer program. Oh, and you probably want to know the theme… well, I’ll give you a hint: Where we are going isn’t green. A cirrus or two can be seen.
Have a guess? Email me an answer with the subject line VBS theme and you could win a prize. I’ll award a prize each month before VBS for the first one with a correct answer.

Dear Tim Hughes and the congregation of
Cornerstone Church,
Thank you...so much for the great care
package! It is always exciting to receive
something in the mail. I appreciate all the many
things that were inside, and they will come in
handy during finals week.
Thank you again for thinking of me!
Brianna Storms
Cornerstone Christian Church,
I want to thank all the members of
Cornerstone Christian Church for their thoughts,
cards, and prayers for Skip over the last several
months. He truly enjoyed receiving the cards
and kept all of them and would re-read them or
show them to his kids. He felt a strong
connection to the Church and the Bible Study
and wanted so bad to attend this last month. I
also appreciate the calls he received from
several people. It really made his day to know
that he was part of such a wonderful church
family.
I also want to thank Lu Storms, Paula Burton,
Debbie Curtis, Janet Moneymaker, and all the
women who helped with the meal at the church!
The food was wonderful and my whole family
appreciated it. I think the meal at the church is a
wonderful ministry.
As you all know, Skip was a strong Christian
man who studied the Bible and had lots of
questions. I know in my heart he is in a better
place with the Lord and is not in any pain.
Thank you so much for all you have done, we
are honored to be a part of this church family!
You all mean so much to me!
With Deepest Gratitude, Sandy Whiting
The family and I want to thank you so much
for all the cards and prayers. Skip would look at
the cards and say what wonderful friends he had
at church. We will miss him so much but he is in
a better place with his Lord.
Sandy Whiting and family
Dear Cornerstone Family,
We can’t begin to find the right words to
express our gratitude to you for all the support
you’ve shown to our family. Thank you to
everyone who prayed, sat with the family,
followed the blog and left uplifting messages,
made meals, sent cards or gifts, or showed
support to us in so many other ways. It is a
blessing to be part of such a loving community.
We are so thankful for every kind gesture made.
Thank you for showering us with God’s love.
Sincerely, Seth and Cami Zook
Cornerstone Family,
Thank you for all your prayers, cards, and
phone calls while I was taking my radiation
treatments. I have one more request and that is
all men age 40 and over should have a PSA
blood test and then an examination for early
prostate cancer detection.
In Christ, Davie Chapman
