From analog radio to digital radio communication or digitisation of analog radios and systems
Development of the world market of radio communication systems is characterized by wide introduction of digital technologies. Digital trunk systems in comparison with analog systems provide higher efficiency and security of communication, data transmit, full list of communication services.
It is not a secret that the main difficulty for the wide spread of well-known brands of digital trunk communication systems (TETRA, APCO-25, Tetrapol, iDEN etc.) is rather high cost of the equipment.
Implementation of digital modules allows to make reasonably priced modernization of the existing analog systems of conventional and trunk communication (particularly MPT1327) up to the level of true digital radio communication.
7
Right away we should mention that there is no possibility to form several digital audio channels at one pair of radio frequency in the communication system advanced using LEXIMCO devices. Besides there are no integral means of data and services transmission provided by leading manufacturers of digital trunk standards.
The main advantage of the advanced communication system is providing with higher level of security and confidentiality of communication. These very requirements are the main for professional, departmental and technological radio communication systems. Encryption of the communication transmitted in digital form makes unauthorized eavesdropping almost impossible.
Other advantages of the improved communication system using LEXIMCO devices:
• Either conventional and trunk (particularly MPT1327) communication systems suit for modernization.
• Low cost of modernization. There is no need in artificial implementation of digital infrastructure. There is no need in using additional special repeaters and base stations.
8
• The same frequency range is used. • Most of analog radios of the leading manufacturers suit for modernization
(Motorola, Standard Vertex, Icom, etc), i.e. you may use the equipment available in system.
• Repeaters operating in the communication system become digital after being equipped with CBR-700R controllers.
CBR-700R controller provides digital stream regeneration. That allows transmitting the speech via unlimited number of retransmission levels.
9
• Modernized radios can operate both in digital and in analog modes. • The rules of maintenance and operation of communication system aren't
changed. • Signaling modules (subscriber modules -S and dispatcher modules -D)
allow implementing dispatcher system D-DS on base of existing conventional communication system. Dispatcher system protects from unauthorized access to the system (to the repeater).
• Upgrading of LEXIMCO devices makes possible further modernization of communication system according to the requirements of the customer.
CBR Controllers
CBR (controller base radio) Controllers are control devices of base radio or repeater.

OTAR
OTAR (Over-The-Air-Rekeying) - common name of the method of changing the encryption keys in a two-way radio system over the radio channel. This method is realized through different key management systems (KMS) and signaling protocols.
12
LEXIMCO digital modules and devices use their own air interface protocol 1200 bps (DS-1200) for functions control, management and rekeying (OTAR). The DS1200 signalling protocol allows radios with subscriber modules to send and receive digital information over a radio channel.
Possibilities OTAR operates with functions of the control and management.
Functions of DS system with OTAR
• Air monitoring with displaying on the PC's monitor of all traffic and key management messages;
• Record-keeping (recording to the archive file of the hard disc of all traffic and key management messages);
• Secure rekeying (from 1 to 16 user's keys); • Check (the radio is switched on and is within the coverage area); • Kill (irrecovered disablement of the LEXIMCO module); • Restriction of the subscriber (temporary restriction for receive and/or
transmit of the subscriber); • Emergency (message sent by the subscriber in critical situation); • Listen (secret mode of radio's transmit); • SMS (sending by system manager short alphanumeric messages to the
radio - individual secret command from other subscribers) - only for Motorola and Vertex radios with display;
Main distinctions of OTAR-Basic:
• Manual entry voice encryption keys VEKs (non automatic) by system manager;
• Changing of VEKs in real time and particularly (non group); • Encryption of key management messages (KMM) by individual encryption
key; • Protect KMM from enemy's interception and inhibits replay message in
later time; • Encryption of traffic messages (PTT-ID, Check, Emergency, etc) by
distinct key TEK (traffic encryption key).
DS system with OTAR-Basic includes:
• workplace of system manager (communication center): o personal computer PC o OBS program o CBR-DOB controller o base radio
• subscribers (user's units) o SOB modules o subscriber radios

1. Decode and display PTT-ID of transmitting radio
24
Each field radio at on-the-air (pressing or release of a PTT key) sends own number, which is displays on the computer of the dispatcher and on others field radios with display.
2. Individual and group calls
Dispatcher can send to radio Individual or Group Call. On a radio sounds beep and blinks LED about call.
3. Verification of the operability of field radio (Check)
25
This feature allows the dispatcher to check out a given radio. If the radio responds, the radio is within communications range and its RF circuitry is functioning. The user won't be disturbed.
4. Sending SMS messages for Motorola radio with display
Dispatcher can send to radio with display short alphanumeric message (for example, telephone number or secret command)
5. Remote disable for stolen or lost radios (Kill)
26
In event of loss/stealing radio dispatcher can send to radio blocking signal. Radio, on decode, causes it to stop working: the buttons do not function and it will not transmit or receive audio. The LEXIMCO module can be restored only on the firm - manufacturer.
6. Setting the field radio for transmitting mode (Listen)
If necessary dispatcher can transmit to radio a signal of forced setting on transmission mode. Radio to particular time passes in a transmission mode. All staff on the given channel listens to talks near a radio.
7. Remote temporary restriction for receive and/or transmit of the field radio
27
If necessary dispatcher can send to radio an inhibit signal of operation on reception and/or transmission. After ending of prohibition period to radio the permission signal is sent by the dispatcher
8. Decode and display Emergency-ID from field radio
In the event of potentially life-threatening situations field radio can send Emergency Call (by pressing an emergency button). Emergency Calls ensure that the appropriate personnel are instantly notified about this event.
9. Decode and display GPS-data
28
At equipment of a radio by the GPS-receiver the dispatcher can send to a radio a request about its geographical coordinates. The radio dispatches the coordinates. On an electronic map of the dispatcher the location of a radio is mapped.
10. Automatic location of the field radio (automode)
29
If necessary dispatcher can send on a radio with the GPS-receiver a signal of inclusion of the mode of automatic sending of GPS-datas. The radio with particular periodicity sends the coordinates, which are received by dispatcher.
11. Auto-Acknowledge
When the field radio decodes one of control signals, it automatically sends back a signal Acknowledge. This provides response to the dispatcher radio, so that dispatcher knows that his call has been received.
12. Decode and display signal "Power_On" from Motorola radio
30
The radio at power-on can send an appropriate signal, which is received by the dispatcher.
13. Remote changing of access level of the repeater with controller CBR-600R
The dispatcher can send on the repeater with controller CBR-600R a signal of a particular level of access to the channel of the repeater (access by all, or access on PTT-ID)

Installation of MP, MGP, MGM digital modules
MP, MGP, MGM modules are specially designed for Plug-In installation to Motorola Professional radios.
For installation of MGP modules into EMEA GP140 and GP340, and MP into EMEA P040 the special 40-pin flex is required to connect the
module to the radio. This flex must be extra ordered from our company or Motorola (Part.# 8480475Z03). In radios with a keypad, this flex
comes with the radio.
For installation of MGM into all mobile radios the Option Board Installation Kit (Motorola Part.# RLN4823) is required to connect and
37
installation the module to the radio. This kit must be ordered from our company or Motorola.
The procedure of installation of the MP, MGP, and MGM to the radio is the following:
1. Check radio firmware (and upgrade radio if necessary) 2. Programming of the radio (refer to Radio Programming Manual) 3. Installation of the module (refer to Installation Manual) 4. Programming of the module (refer to General Description of
program CONFIG and Programming Manual MP, MGP, MGM)
Programming of modules MP, MGP, MGM is carried out being part of the radio (without disconnecting from radio) using:
• standard programming set Motorola (RIB RLN4008 plus programming cable or RIBless programming cable)
• programming software CONFIG.
The LEXIMCO module in MPT radios (EMEA GP640, GP680, GM640, GM660, GM1280) operates only in trunk mode (i.e. cipher and clear mode operation is possible in trunk mode of the radio, only clear mode is possible in conventional mode).

The flexes can be retrofitted to most radio models, but this should first be verified by providing the serial numbers to a Tait Service Centre for confirmation .
T2000 Radios The T2000 Encryption Upgrade Flex PCBs are suitable for radios which contain the Enhanced HC11 Control PCB (IPN 220-01344-XX). This can be verified by providing the serial numbers to a Tait Service Centre for confirmation.
Radio Firmware and Software Compatibility Tait Orca Portable Radios Encrypted TOP radios require specific encryption-capable radio firmware. This is fitted during manufacture of encryptable radios, but will need to be programmed separately where an encryption upgrade kit is used. Contact the Tait Strategic Sales Team for confirmation of encryption firmware support.
T2000 Radios Encryption-capable T2000 radios require no firmware change to support encryption function.

The theory of analog scrambling
This method of scrambling is based on single constant frequency inversion of its spectrum during the transmission of voice message.
The spectrum of initial voice signal is transmitted over the air at 300-3000 Hz range. After heterodyne transformation the signal at the output of the transmitter has frequency spectrum consisting of two bands - to the left (not inverted) and to the right (inverted) of the inversion frequency.
In the transmitting device one band (not inverted) is suppressed by the filter and another band (inverted) is intensified and put on the air.
The receiving radio picks up the scrambled signal and inverts it once again. If both scramblers operate at the same frequency inversion (at one key), the de-scrambling process (speech reconstruction) will be 100% successful.
The scrambler uses Texas Instruments processor MSP430-series.

LEXIMCO presents BT modules and BT devices for professional two-way radios. These BT Kits consist from detachable parts; have different purpose and functionality, like internal and external connection, with/without encryption etc and supports wide range of BT headsets and GPS receivers. Application of BT sets and BT devices...
64
BT Kit includes:
1. Master Device (digital module or external dongle)
MGP-BT
or
MGP-BT/360
or
RDM-BT
or
DNGL
2. PTT-BT button
PTT-BT/K
or
PTT-BT/R
3. BT Headset
HS711 or
HS713 or
Jabra BT150
or RexPower FJ980
or another
4. Charging Adapter (for DNGL, PTT-BT/K and HS711, HS713)
5. Multi-charge jack (for Charging Adapter)
6. Belt holder or neck cord (for PTT-BT/K)
Digital BT module
Digital option BT board could be installed “plug and play” inside radio. Currently we produce MGP-BT (for GP140, GP340, GP360, GP380) and RDM-BT (for different radio with “closed architecture”). Digital option BT board also supports voice encryption protocol D60, D70, D600 or D700 and signaling protocol DS.
65
Digital option BT board could work with next BT devices: wireless PTT BT buttons, standard and modified BT headsets and standard BT GPS receivers.
As we don’t plan to make option boards for ICOM and Vertex radios due to lack of space, we suggest using with these radios external BT dongle.
External BT dongles
Dongles – special external devices which connect with a radio through accessory connector. Due to their small size they could be attached to radio or radio case by two side sticky tape. Currently we have dongles for next radios in stock
DNGL/GP Motorola GP140, GP340, GP360, GP380, GP640, GP680;
DNGL/CP Motorola CP-series (CP140, CP340, CP360, CP380) and P-series (P040, P080)
DNGL/MGP Motorola GP344, GP388, GP644, GP688
DNGL/IC1 ICOM IC-F3G, F3GS, F4G, F4GS, F33G, F33GS, F43G, F43GS, F11, F21,F22, F31
Dongle for other radios also could be ordered.
External BT dongles don’t support either encryption or signaling protocol DS. If user needs to use encryption or DS1200 signaling protocol (for example for GPS data transfer) radios should be additionally equipped with LEXIMCO standard digital option boards.
External BT dongles could work with next external BT devices: wireless BT PTT buttons and standard BT headsets.
External BT dongle works from internal rechargeable battery and could be recharged (AC/DC adapter included).
Wireless PTT-BT buttons
66
Wireless PTT-BT button allows setting radio to transmission mode remotely. The radios should be equipped with digital option BT boards or with external BT dongles. Wireless PTT-BT buttons have 2 types – PTT-BT/K and PTT-BT/R
PTT-BT/K has round shape, small size and could be placed either in hand or on neck (string is included). It works from internal rechargeable battery and could be recharged (AC/DC adapter included).
PTT-BT/R has rectangular shape, small size and could be placed in had or attached to elbow and works from AA battery.
BT headsets
Our BT devices you could use with both standard BT headsets which could be purchased anywhere
and special customized HS711, HS713. HS711 and HS713 were specially adapted to wireless radios – delays and special service tones have been removed.
HS711 HS713
All BT headsets, BT PTT buttons and BT dongles or BT option boards are inter-operable.
