Investing in Training & Development Our training and development programs range from customer satisfaction and orientation through to our comprehensive succession planning and talent management process, focusing on the development of SSP’s employees. The following are a few highlights from our many programs:

Guest Service Excellence Smiles are contagious and genuine service is invaluable, especially in an airport environment where stress is often the norm. These are just a few values taught in our Guest Service Excellence training course that our Food Travel Experts must complete in order to ensure we are delivering a positive, memorable experience.

Pathfinder Program The Pathfinder Program is designed to give practical tools and techniques that can improve core management skills in key areas such as coaching, delegation and prioritizing. All SSP General Managers must complete Pathfinder and undertake a 90-day ‘Real Work Challenge’.

Bespoke Management Training As part of our drive to provide the best possible learning environment and expertise for our staff, SSP has developed a partnership with leading restaurant and hotel school Rosen College, part of the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Rosen College has the world’s fastest growing hospitality program, with 2,200 undergraduate staff, 43 full time faculty members and four different degree programs. From 2008 to the end of 2013, more than 320 SSP managers worldwide completed the college’s industry renowned Multi-Site Management Program, which was carefully tailored to the SSP business. The program focused on core business skills and improved the consistency of our operations, enabling us to attract and retain the very best talent to SSP. ======================================================================= THIS IS A MUST READ… Pioneering change in the food travel industry You can view a digital version of the SSP America Corporate Brochure below (requires Flash Player). KATE SWANN CEO, SSP I have recently joined SSP as CEO. I joined the company because travel retail is a fascinatingly dynamic business and the potential in the sector is enormous. As a leading player in this arena SSP is well placed, and our long and successful heritage, our world-leading portfolio of brands, and the expertise of our people make the company a formidable force. I am particularly excited to have joined the company just as the latest wave of SSP’s consumer insights research is completed. Our previous consumer insights research provided statistical data on a scale and scope that was far in excess of anything recorded in the business before. Our investment in this new research will give us the most up to date picture of what customers want in terms of food and beverage when they are travelling. Customer needs are

developing so fast, and trends in food and beverage are changing so frequently that the investment SSP puts into understanding these areas is invaluable in meeting our clients’ and customers’ needs better than anyone else. ==========================================================================

IS SSP AMERICA TRULY? Here in Phoenix, SSP America has two separate operations. One is at Sky Harbor Airport and there is the Homeland Security Badging

process. The badging process is complicated. Some things are acceptable after “X” number of years while other things are

never. Many times, even the employers are not sure.

Page 7: 30sept14.START THE WEEK WITH A JOB

DON’T ASSUME THAT THE ANSWER IS NO. If the employer is not certain how can you be? Contact the Sky Harbor Badging Office and make sure. Better to ask and be surprised than to just walk away from a great opportunity to only find out you were wrong. http://skyharbor.com/about/securitybadging.html

SSP AMERICA also has a 48,000 sq. ft. cooking facility off the airport at 16th St. and Grant. Since this is not at the airport, different rules and measures are in place. At the Grant Facility, your skills, abilities are the first consideration. If you have done your job to show them how well you match the skills that they need, you will find that they are much more willing to talk about your past. They are concerned with who you are and what you bring to the table. They look at the age, IMPORTANTLY they want to know the circumstances as to what happened, do you have remorse and what have you done to put your life back together. You need to reassure them that you are NO LONG that person and illustrate by what you have done to make yourself different. Repentant people are unlikely to repeat past mistakes. They look at how old the offence(s) are (with age and lack of additional charges a good indicator of truth on your part). ===============================================================

BEST ADVISE “BE HONEST…BE HUMAN!” If people see you as a human being, then mistakes are expected as is help and assistance. =============================================== APPLY IN PERSON: Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm 1710 E Grant St, Phoenix, AZ 85034 Cross Streets: Between E Sky Harbor Cir N and S. 16th Pl. USED JOB SHACK INSIDER STUDY GUIDE…

If you really want a career with this company it is to your benefit to know who they are, what they do, how well they do it and what is their future.

Why should you put in all this extra effort for another interview at another cooking facility? If you don’t already know the answer to this…you are in the wrong spot, reading the wrong thing. To humor you…let’s go through this again: A. They have just received an 11 year contract with Sky Harbor. B. Since they have been here less than 6 months…they are not going anywhere for a long time and that gives you STABILITY! C. They are young here in the valley but, already, have a rep for promoting from within. Many of the people who went to the initial rounds of interviews (several months back) have already been promoted to leads or supervisors. D. They offer benefits from day one. E. They are ONLY one-third full on their staffing.

Page 11: 30sept14.START THE WEEK WITH A JOB

THIS IS CRITICAL!!! When you apply you must know if you are applying for a position at the airport or at the cooking facility because the answers you must give them will be very different from one another due to the fact that they are looking for a very specific type of person for each and they do not mix. AT THE AIRPORT: They need an ubberly friendly, people person who can start up a conversation without hesitation. This is necessary because you are on the service line and deal directly with the public. AT THE COOKING FACILITY: A person

who is chatty is the “kiss of death” at the cooking facility as they will never get any work done. There are three questions you will be asked and the better prepared you are to answering these questions the quicker you get hired. They do not normally hire on the spot but, they have twice and both times it was a very well prepared UMOM Applicant.

QUESTION 1: You will be asked this question before you realize that you are being interviewed and is so critical that a wrong answer will seriously end the interview other than for the niceties. The Question is “Tell me what you know about my company?” One of our two direct hires got hired here. He was so prepared that the lady challenged his info and got on the computer to check him out. She was startled and said “I have been with the company for 15 years and I did not know that…WOW!” He was hired on the spot. If you have read this guide and have done your homework then you will know that the following is important:

A. They have been in business for _____ years and are in ____countries. B. The have a passion for ________ and a passion for _______. C. They have a ____ year contract with Sky Harbour. D. They represent the following venues (restaurants) __________________.

TIPSTER: put this together into starting a conversation with the interviewer instead of reciting mere facts. Here would be the way that we would start: “I have spent some time on your website and I was very impressed by your company and that you have been in business for…what is it ____years? (Wait for answer) Then I saw you are in… what is it _____ countries? But then I read about your passion for ______ and ________. (Pause for effect) and the more I thought about it, the more I said that is me…that is what I am all about. This is when I made my mind up to come down to introduce myself.”

Page 12: 30sept14.START THE WEEK WITH A JOB

QUESTION 2: Half way through the interview they will ask you “Tell me about yourself.” This is where I will remember how ubber they are into team work and will continue with my hidden message of “I am you and you are me…” Here is what we would say: “The first thing that you need to know about me is

that I am a true believer in team work as everywhere that I have worked where we had a good team, there was nothing that we couldn’t achieve…In fact, I so believe in the power of team work, that I have tried to start teams at the places (that I worked) that didn’t have a team…” If you have a good story about team work, please insert here in the conversation…

QUESTION 3: Your answer to this question will depend upon which location you are applying. The answers do not mix. In fact, we had a young fellow give the cook facility answer (perfectly) but, he didn’t know that job was at the airport and he was not hired. Remember they are looking for a specific type of person for each location. The question is “Why do you want to work for us (SSP America)?” Please keep reading as your answer here means the difference between getting the job or not. FOR THE AIRPORT: Remember ubber people person is needed here. Here your answer is judged by not only what you say but in how you say it. Remember when you were a kid and you discovered Christmas and Ice Cream? Remember that sense of excitement? Combine those and say something to the effect… “Work for you at the AIRPORT…Why wouldn’t I? This would be the neatest place to work as I am such a people person…” Have a couple of stories about how you went out of you way to help people…toss in a passion for _____ and ______...and you are on your way to getting hired. FOR THE COOKING FACILITY: You need a totally different person here. They need a person who is series, looking for more than just another job and who sees the potential of growing with a company that has a ____contract with Sky Harbour. Our answer would be “Why do I want to work for you here at the cooking facility? To be truthful, I am tired of dead end, junk jobs…in fact, if I wanted a junk job, I could go get ten of them today. (PAUSE FOR EFFECT) I am looking for an opportunity to come into a company like SSP and work as hard as I can, learn as much as I can…and maybe, just maybe…I can turn this into the career that I am seeking. This is why I wanted to come down and introduce myself…” ***MUST HAVE THE AVAILABILITY THAT THEY NEED…OPEN AVAILABILITY PEOPLE GET HIRED FIRST***

ISS CLEANING SVC 4811 N 7th St, Phoenix, AZ

ISS awarded cleaning contract with Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport ISS has started delivery of

janitorial services to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport for a two-year cleaning contract. Phoenix Sky Harbor, the 9th largest airport in the United States and the largest commercial airport in the American Southwest, has selected ISS as their service provider for janitorial services. Under the two year contract, ISS will be delivering janitorial services to all public areas, including airport offices and rental car facilities. The ISS team will consist of over 375 dedicated service professionals. Their sole focus will be on delivering a safe and clean environment for the more than 40 million passengers and staff the airport serves each year. Mauro Scigliano, COO for ISS US commented: “We are delighted to have been chosen as service provider for Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. This contract is a significant award for ISS and underlines our strength in the aviation sector across North America.” Cleaning is not just cleaning and with ISS you can find a range of different areas to work in within cleaning. Daily cleaning is where we have the most colleagues working and often a large part of the working day takes place when the customer is not at work which can be late in the daytime, early in the morning or during the night. This provides many of our colleagues with an opportunity to fit a job with for example studies or other required daytime activities. Apart from daily cleaning we also have opportunities to work with for example window cleaning, laundry, dry cleaning, IT and telephone cleaning and a range of specialized cleaning such as industry, hospital or food hygiene cleaning. APPLY FOR WORK BY GOING DOWN TO THEIR OFFICE AND FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION...TAKE A CHEAT SHEET WITH YOU TO FILL OUT THE APPLICATION CORRECTLY AND COMPLETELY. TAKE YOUR TIME, BE NEAT AS THIS IS A REFLECTION OF THE QUAILITY OF YOUR WORK. GO DRESSED LIKE YOU ARE READY TO GO TO WORK, NOW! IMPORTANT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PASS AN AIRPORT BACKGROUND CHECK. Contact the Sky Harbor Badging Office and make sure. Better to ask and be surprised than to just walk away from a great opportunity to only find out you were wrong. http://skyharbor.com/about/securitybadging.html

http://www.slideshare.net/fredgwest1999/17-june-new-update-of ================================================================ Every day, someone comes in and starts their conversation with the “Job-A-Ranger” by looking him in the eye and (going on for an extended period of time) in tearing themselves down because they have no professional work history. They are confused by the difference between experience and skills or abilities. They don’t understand that most entry or re-entry level jobs do not require an actual, professional work history. This is why they are entry level jobs. The employers are looking not for a trained pro. The employers are looking for someone who has the basic skills, abilities and desire to learn to become a professional. With this type of job, the employer is looking mostly for availability and a desire to work for their company and that you want to do a specific job. In the world of entry or re-entry jobs experience is many times a negative. This is a world where it is more important that you know how to ride a bicycle instead of where or when you learned to ride. Every time your natural skills and abilities are enough to get you a job. If you add to that open availability and a desire to do the job that you applied for you are a dream applicant to that employer. The standard response that the “Job-A-Ranger” gets back is “BUT…I don’t have any skills because “I have been a stay-out home parent!”

Page 15: 30sept14.START THE WEEK WITH A JOB

The truth is that for many occupations, a stay-at-home parent would (almost) be considered over qualified because they have been doing the actual work for “all their life!” The idea is to grasp that concept and learn how to communicate with the employer. No more than you would want to be speaking Polish to an employer who is speaking English; you don’t want to be talking experience when the employer is speaking skills and abilities. If the employer and you are speaking the same language, then your chances of getting hired will greatly improve. Basic skills in the cleaning industry are (these skills help get you hired) Do you (have you) know how to mop a floor? Can you run a vacuum cleaner? Do you know how to sweep the kitchen floor? Do you know how to wax a floor? Do you (have you) know how to dust? Do you know how clean windows? Do you know how to clean a mirror? Do you (have you) know how to wash a dish? Do you know how to clean pots and pans? Do you (have you) know how to clean your own room? Do you know how to make a bed? Do you know how to wash sheets and towels? Do you know of to fold sheets? If you answered the majority of these questions with “yes” then, you are (almost) over qualified to be in the cleaning industry. The question of “IF” you get hired will have nothing to do with your skill set. The reason will come down to: Availability or your lack of availability to work the days and/or hours that they employer needs you to work. Motivation or your lack of interest in the employer’s company and/or the specific job that you applied for. If you come across as this is your job of last resort or that you don’t like this type of work or that you will take this until you get a better offer. If you follow the simple program of the Used Job Shack, do your homework and take your “A” Game with you to their interview, then you stand a good chance of getting that job. THE CLEANING INDUSTRY The cleaning industry ranges from taking care or cleaning someone’s home to cleaning 12-14 hotel rooms per day to cleaning large corporate offices and all the way to wearing a “bunny suit” to clean manufacturing clean rooms. The salaries can range from minimum wage to $24+/HR. This is an industry where you can start your own business; you can work PT/FT or select the hours that you want to work. The opportunities are there to work where you feel most comfortable, be it cleaning at a school to dusting the Governor’s Office (even the White House has a cleaning crew…think the President washes his own sheets and bedspread?

THE HOME COMPANION SHOPING GUIDE TO WORKING IN THE CLEANING INDUSTRY There are a few big dogs in this market, some mutts and quite a few puppies. Many large companies run their own cleaning crews (like the hotels/motels/resorts) while others hire smaller companies to do the work for them.

Page 16: 30sept14.START THE WEEK WITH A JOB

• If you are interested in working for a large company doing janitorial or maintenance work, see if they are running help wanted ads.

• If they are running ads then all you need is “RULE NUMBER FOUR” to help you assemble an application that will get you past the computer gate keeper and into an interview.

• If they aren’t or don’t run ads they contract the work out to a smaller company. • If they contract the work out, it is easy to find out who that company is by calling the

business office and asking them just that (now you know who to contact). • If the company is small, don’t waste time sending your killer resume out to every

cleaning company this side of the Mississippi, they won’t (for the most part) even read it any more than you read the junk mail that you get in the mail. The key here is to go local and to go “OLD SCHOOL...”

This means that you need to go to www.yellowpages.com Generate a list of all the cleaning companies within 5-10 miles of where you live or want to live. Use this list to research each company to find out who they are and how do they hire. Most times, the easiest, directress and the simplest solution is to spruce yourself up to look like you are on your way to work, do your homework so that you can have an intelligent conversation about their business (or industry), put on your walking shoes and go out and start knocking on doors. This is very effective because most of these small companies don’t have the money or the time to run an ad except as a desperate, last measure. Here Old Lady Luck can and will be your friend. You may will find yourself at the right place, at the right time, saying the right thing to the right person and get the job. Couldn’t hurt could it? The key concept here is to get yourself out and in front of as many people (face-to-face) as you can within this industry or who are somewhere in the food chain of making a hiring decision.

Page 17: 30sept14.START THE WEEK WITH A JOB

No one has ever been hired by resume or application alone. The resume/application is a prop to get attention that you hope will lead to an interview. Why not cut out the middle steps and go out and get yourself in direct contact with a person who can hire you? Cut out all of the middle men (people) and the great thing with these small cleaning

companies is that you can do just that – if you try. So welcome to our first attempt to help you out and we thought that we would assist you at the other end of the industry by assembling a sundry collection of ads from the larger companies.

THE GREAT CLEANING JOB SEARCH – PHOENIX

FAILURE TO USE ONET WILL RESULT IN FAILURE TO GET CALLED FOR INTERVIEW, LEAD TO DISAPPOINTMENT, CONTINUED UNEMPLOYMENT AND A LESSOR PAYING DEAD-END JOB. http://www.onetonline.org/ ===============================================

ABM EMPLOYS MORE THAN 100,000 PEOPLE IN HOURLY SERVICE POSITIONS We are always accepting applications for janitorial maintenance, landscaping gardeners, security guards, parking attendants, shuttle drivers and building engineers.

TIPSTER: SPOILER ALERT! Campers! Apply ONLY online and you may be as old as Uncle Bob before they call you in for an interview? Like HMSHOST, they receive so many applications because they are a national (and one of the largest) facilities management company. RULE # 4 is critical here to a point but, there is still an extra step that you must do to actually get an interview. You must attend one of their occasional job fairs or (better yet and they tell you to do this very thing!) GO INTO ONE OF THEIR LOCAL OFFICES and introduce yourself. REMEMBER THE CONCEPT OF MAKING YOURSELF A SERIOUS CANDIDATE? Remember how HMSHOST tells you to apply online but NEVER pulls applications until after you have tracked down their HR Office and impress them with your “A” Game and show them that you are ready to go to work – only then, do they pull your applicant off their computer. Remember why? Because till you did that, you were not a serious candidate in their mind and if you are not serious then they do not need to waste their time with you…they have far too many people applying to care. OK, campers! Ditto here! Till you show up and their office totally serious and prepared they more than likely not call you. Rule #4 helps and when they do pull your application, it will be a deal maker because your application will be what they are looking for – if you did Rule #4 correctly.

Page 19: 30sept14.START THE WEEK WITH A JOB

APPLY ONLINE THEN, SPRUCE UP YOUR “A” GAME AND MAKE A BEE-LINE TO THE NEAREST ABM OFFICE! THERE ARE 7 OFFICES IN YOUR AREA.

BUT, I STAYED HOME AND TOOK CARE OF MY KIDS…I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE! Every day someone comes in says that they don’t have any skills; no marketable abilities and no experience because they stayed home and took care of their children. This is the most incorrect statement of 2014 (or any year) because it is so very far away from being true. The truth is that they are over qualified for many of the jobs that they (usually because this is what they have years of experience doing) most want to do caregiving, cleaning or cooking. In the entry level(s) of these trades, they are seasoned professionals not in some made up or clever re-wording of housewife (husband) but in ONET ONLINE (Labor Department) professional job descriptions:
