engagement disorder in school-aged foster children—A confirmatory approach
to dimensional measures”

● Van der Put and de Ruiter (2016) “Child Maltreatment Victimization By Type In

● Farineau, H. M. (2016). An Ecological Approach to Understanding Delinquency of Youths in Foster Care.
○ youths with a history of maltreatment were 55% more likely to be arrested and 96% more likely to commit a violent crime
○ 24–29% of youths specifically in foster care placements were diagnosed with severe behavioral disorders involving delinquent behavior
● Suggestions○ an ecological approach to handling youths in the foster care system is beneficial as it is
important to consider not only the adolescent’s individual characteristics, but more importantly one must consider the various contexts within which the adolescent operates. (Farineau, 2016)

- “I’ll bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You’ve never
actually stood there and looked up at the beautiful ceiling; seen that.”
