Play G string [the thick one]

.

This is E string [the thin one]

Next to this is a 4/4 bar notation. This is telling you to count each bar in 4 beats. In this case you have only rests, nothing to play.

This is the key of G or TREBLE KEY. The violin is using only this key for music notation.

2

1

Track 3

G and count 4 for the full note value

This is a rest for a full note Do not play ,just count.

1......2.......3......4......

3 With this repeat sign you must play again only from the previous repeat sign, not from the begining.

This is the same songno need for an other mesure sign.

Do not lift bow, Just change strings moving your elbow for G string

This is a repeat sign. You must play again from the begining.

4

This double bar is the end of the song , not a repeat .

While you play look ahead to the next line.

The movement of your bow is much bigger at the point.Do not make a sound when you change strings.

5This sign is equal with a short breack just egnouth to change strings.

2Move your eyes fast to the next bar ,or play slower.

If you can not follow music and play , just move your eyes not your head without playing , than learn the notes by just looking at them , than you will play much easier. After all that take care of your sound quality.

2

The time signature 4/4 is writen like a C most of the time in proffetional music print.

We have only 2 Crotchets in a bar ...then the counting will be only 1 and 2.

3

This is a TIE you will not play the note again , just count 2 more beats. For this TIE we have 2+2 beats = 4 ( easy.)

Quavers

Copyright to Eugenia Doina BrunoDo not photocopy.

This is the last and the smallest value we will learn for a while. In one crotchet we have 2 quavers. The small bowings you have to practise every day can be considered quavers. If you play those quavers fast use little bow,if slower use bigger bow,but at the moment play them on the upper half. You can use as little as a third or a quater of the bow.

It is useful to count them like that: 1......and .....2.......and ....3......and....4.......and

1

This is an other way of writing quavers.

Track 21

Play whole bow slow and lift finger at least 2 cm , before you articulate .

Why not trying to play 4 notes by bow.Just play very slow withthe bow and move fingers fast.It will be easier if you stop the bow before each lagatto and take your time to think.Always name the notes and fingers before starting to play .

The first part of this study has DETACHE bow.Play from middle to point , decisive with short accents and breacks between strokes .If possible do not stop the bow between strokes. We are practising a nice sound with fast bow.

Legatto and fast moving fingers in a slow tempo.Lift and press one finger at the timewith energetic movement, holding a slow tempo.

1

Track 25

Play with 0 and 2nd ONLY

Play with 0 and 3rd ONLY

Choose a slow tempo. The good news is that the bow is moving at the same speed (minim) the all time.

Copyright to Eugenia Doina BrunoDo not photocopy

1st finger is the most difficult to articulate corectlly. Please curl your index and just press it as close as you can to the begining of E string. The mistake we all want to do is: to lower the position of your left hand. This is why I teach 1st and 2nd finger together. If the corect position of 2nd finger is curled,Your 1st finger will be even curlier....lets face it ...very,very curly. You will find the E string very easy ...after G that is. By the way..1st finger is F and 2nd is G.

2nd finger is far away from 1st.

What is this? This is the same song writen in half value notes.Real easy : count the same ,play the same slow tempo..is your choice after all .Just remember a Crotchet has 2 quavers AND 2+1=3.The dott has a value : half of the value of the note before, just like for a minim. So you have 3 quavers to count one by one.

2

Do not play this ,just do the maths.

Those two quavers legatto will make acrotchet , but this writing is highly unprofessional

This looks good, and is played the same.like the previous bar.

If you only play those warm ups every day , before anything elseyou will make a progress with your intonation and articulation.

Begin practising them slow and separated bows ,than 2 by bow and finnaly 4 by bow.Do not play fast if the sound and intonation are not good.

This is the same song written in 2/4 mesurewith a crotchet for a beat.

You are suposed to play twice the speed , but quality is important not the speed.Choose a convenient tempo and enjoy it. 2

While you play D move your elbow under the violin and be ready to articulate C with 3rd finger.
