Dear Friends of Notre Dame Catholic School, We are endeavoring to honor those who have served Notre Dame during the many years of its long history. Throughout this history, individuals have served quietly and faithfully. Some are no longer with us but the legacy of their service continues to this day. Others are still a vibrant part of our community but no longer employed by the school. We do not want our people to be forgotten. Therefore, if you know someone living or deceased, who was part of our school for a minimum of ten years, please nominate them for the 2019 Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented during Catholic Schools Week. Friends and family will be invited to a reception and a picture of them will be placed on a special wall in the elementary school.

Please give this invita!on your serious considera!on, think back over our long and beau!ful history of catholic educa!on in Wichita Falls and nominate someone who has gone before us and generously served our community. Then please submit their name for our Dis!nguished Service Award. Send your nomina!on to [email protected] In your email, please tell us why this individual is so deserving. This ministry helps to develop a sense of participation in parish life and a love for the church's liturgical life, while growing closer to God in one's own life. Youth (3rd grade and up) and adults are eligible for this ministry. Training takes place as needed. Contact Bob Jones 940-782-8090 if you are interested in becoming an altar server.

Divorced and Re-married? If you are divorced and remarried outside of the Catholic Church without a Decree of Invalidity, or if you are married outside of the Catholic Church, you may not partake of the Sacraments, including the reception of Holy Communion. Until it is shown otherwise through the ministry of the Tribunal, no person is free to enter into another marriage without the appearance or occasion of serious sin. A divorce alone would not affect, or hinder in any way, your participation in the Catholic Church. A divorced Catholic is free to receive the sacraments. However, if you are divorced and have remarried, or if you are divorced and in a new relationship, or if you are living with someone without a Decree of Invalidity (and your former spouse is still living) you may not partake of the sacraments, including the reception of Holy Communion. Consider seeking a Decree of Invalidity which will enable you to return to a full participation in the sacramental life of the Church. For more information contact Deacon Jim Bindel at the Church office at 696-1253.

Jesus the heart of your family’s Christmas joy

Sharing the Gospel: Luke 2:41-52

When Jesus traveled to Jerusalem as a 12 yearold young man, he stayed behind at the temple when his family left to return home. When his parents found out he was not with them on the journey home, they were terribly afraid and returned to Jerusalem to look for him. Luke tells us that, “When they [his parents] found him, Jesus asked, “Didn’t you know that I had to be in my Father’s house.” But they did not understand his answer.”

What Jesus was telling his parents was that he felt completely ‘at home’ in the Temple. He was eager to talk to the elders in the synagogue and learn more about his Father in Heaven. His questions of the elders as well as his answers showed how much he loved God. They also showed how hungry he was to always learn more about God, his Father.

Prayer Dear God, help me to feel at home in my church like Jesus did. Help me to always be hungry to learn more about You. Something to Draw Draw a picture of yourself learning about God with your catechist or listening in Mass to Fr. Alex teaching you about Jesus’ way of truth and serving others. Mission for January Help those in your religious education class feel welcome at Church. Speak to your classmates, and listen to their answers. When they are absent, send them a postcard telling them you missed them. When they return to class tell them that you are glad they are there!

Remember… The Christmas Season has just begun!

7

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT Here we are, mere days from Christmas, and we hear a Gospel anticipating the birth of another child. Mary has received word that her cousin Elizabeth is with child.

Pregnant as she is, Mary "set out and traveled to the hill country in haste." She has recently received the greatest news of her life - that she is to be mother to the Messiah by the power of the Holy Spirit - but her concern is for her cousin in need. Through God's grace, Elizabeth turns it into an oppor-tunity to honor the coming Christ. "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." Yet Mary's example of selflessness should inspire us.

As Christmas draws near, there is plenty of goodness to anticipate for many of us. We'll reunite with family and friends, uphold time-honored traditions, swap stories old and new, exchange gifts, and welcome Jesus at the Christmas liturgy. These are wonderful things! Of course, they probably all come with their own to-do list. Shop for last-minute gifts, pick up recipe ingredients, ready the guest room, or pack your own bags. Mary probably had things to do as well. She had a lot to consider, for one thing. How do you plan to tell your parents you're pregnant, but no man was involved? When Joseph finds out, who will care for the practical needs of you and your child? Into what may have been a chaos of questions, Mary receives news that someone is in need. She goes immediately.

In these final days before Christmas, stay watchful and awake! You never know when God might invite you to welcome, hospitality, and compassion. It might be tempting to reject the opportunity for your own needs. Follow the example of Mary! If God is providing you an opportunity to love, He will provide the means to accomplish all your other tasks. This Christmas season, may you too hear, "Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."
