ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT

The Three-Year Education Plan for École Brentwood Elementary School, commencing September 1, 2018, was prepared under the direction of the Golden Hills School Division, in accordance with responsibilities under the School Act and the Fiscal Planning and Transparency Act. This plan was developed in the context of the provincial government’s business and fiscal plans. The school has used its performance results to develop the plan and is committed to implementing the strategies contained within the plan to improve student learning and results.

The Board approved the Three-Year Education Plan for 2018/2021 on November 27, 2018.

SCHOOL PROFILE École Brentwood Elementary School is a dual-track kindergarten to grade six school that serves the town of Strathmore, Alberta. The school presently has a student population of 291. Since September 2016, the school has offered a French Immersion Program. Currently, the French Immersion program includes students from kindergarten to grade three, with an additional grade being added each year until it operates from kindergarten through to grade six. As a dual-track school, we are extremely proud of the diverse learning opportunities offered to our students. École Brentwood Elementary Mission

At École Brentwood Elementary School, we are deliberate in our efforts to live our school mission and vision as we build connections to Powerful Learning. As a result of such intentional connections, enhanced student and staff learning emerges. A deep curricular understanding, along with instruction that instills lifelong learning and encourages students to be engaged citizens, is at the core of Powerful Learning. In order to cultivate a passion for learning, at École Brentwood Elementary School we strive to support students by providing them with boundless learning opportunities that enables them to become engaged thinkers who have the capacity to face challenges critically, creatively and collaboratively. Partnerships with school stakeholders are key to providing boundless learning opportunities. As such, school staff, students, families and the larger school community work closely with one another to ensure that our family-centered school is able to meet the needs of our diverse population of students.

Comment on Results École Brentwood Elementary School is a high performing school which consistently achieves strong results on Provincial Achievement Tests. Students who require academic supports are identified early and given interventions to support and enhance their learning which has resulted in high academic achievement at École Brentwood Elementary School. Comment on Results At École Brentwood Elementary School, we strive to provide opportunities to help students become engaged citizens with skills and attitudes that transfer beyond our school walls into the community. Steps are taken to ensure that students are actively involved at various levels where citizenship endeavours are concerned. We are committed to planning local, national and global actions that improve our community and world. We will continue to work with students and communicate with families about how we are helping students to become active citizens. Strategies

Comment on Results Despite the fact that at École Brentwood Elementary School we do not have a huge population of FNMI students, we are committed to ensuring that we are able to successfully apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students. In addition, the staff make a concerted effort to create a school environment that promotes and sustains inclusive learning environments where diversity is embraced and every student is welcomed, cared for, respected and safe. Strategies

• increase awareness, understanding and application of First Nations, Métis and Inuit histories, perspectives and ways of knowing for the purpose of implementing treaty and residential schools education and Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action for education

• foster strong relationships with FNMI students and their families • build partnerships with Indigenous stakeholders • establish a repertoire of Indigenous resources, to support the learning experiences of all students, which

Comment on Results Staff members recognize that there is a strong correlation between the learning environment and the ability of our students to gain the most from their educational experiences. Each student needs to feel safe and connected to the school environment in order to optimize learning; therefore, we place a high priority on ensuring students and families feel safe and cared for at École Brentwood Elementary School. Strategies

• continue to foster multiple communication points with parents: o weekly and monthly newsletter bulletins o conversations with families o School Council meetings o social media

• adhere to the Division policy of Safe and Caring Schools • enlist the support of outside resources and agencies to educate students on safety matters • provide a breakfast program, provide emergency lunches, and take part in the local Food Bank’s WAM

Comment on Results At École Brentwood Elementary School, we strive to provide boundless learning opportunities for students both inside and outside of the classroom. Providing students with a broader range of programming entails enlisting the support of volunteers, accessing varied resources, and establishing partnerships, among other things. Efforts to maintain and develop programming will be made, as will communicating information regarding programming to stakeholders. We will continually explore ways in which we can offer a variety of learning opportunities to each of our students. Strategies

99.0 Comment on Results There are many ways for parent(s)/guardian(s) to take an active role in the school and their child’s education. Some of the ways include: attending School Council meetings, supporting School Council endeavors, volunteering for various events, attending Parent-Teacher interviews, attending assemblies, using agendas, and accessing the website and social media accounts. Given the significant decline in the second performance measure, a concerted effort will be made to ensure that parent(s)/guardian(s) are aware of the various ways in which they can play an active role.
