Water is the most important of all our natural resources that should be protect-ed. Without water the planet would probably not exist. Humans, animals and plants cannot survive long without wa-ter. Thus, now that water scarcity is an issue in our land and many cities are in a state of water-stress or water-scarcity, we should learn to be more water effi-cient in our homes and daily habits. Al-so, it is very important to keep it clean and understand the fact that every drop matters. Dealing with the problem is a shared responsibility across our commu-nity.

The basic idea of the competitive forces starts with the notion that competition is often looked at too narrowly by managers. The five forces say that: 1. you are competing with your direct competitors, but you are also in a fight for profits with a broader set of competitors: 2. Customers who have bargaining power 3. Suppliers who can have bargaining power 4. New entrants who might come in and kind of grab a piece of the action 5. Substitute products or services that essentially place a constraint or a cap on your
profitability and growth. The five forces help you find out the answers to these questions: First of all, what is really causing profitability in the industry What are the trends that are most likely to be significant in changing the game in the industry? Where are the constraints that might allow you to find a really strong competitive position?
Michael Porter is a Professor at Harvard University and Head of the Institute for “Strategy and Competitiveness.” He is the author of the HBR article, “The Five Com-petitive Forces That Shape Strategy”
ايده اصليِ نيروهاي رقابتي اين است كه مديران تنهـا
رقباي مستـقـيـم به فكر خود نباشند بلكه خود را همواره در حال مبارزه بـا رقبايي هم چون مشتريان، فروشندگان، تازه واردان، و حتي محصولات و خدمـات جايگزيني تصور كنند كـه ممكن است تهديدي براي سودآوري و پيشرفت شان
باشد.

When was the last time you lost some-thing? What was it? According to a recent survey we spend about ten minutes a day looking for lost things. Over an average lifetime this adds up to an incredible 3680 hours (for 153 days). Is there any-thing we can do about it?
The study of 3000 adults was carried out by a home insurance company. They found that mobile phones and car keys were the most frequently lost items. Other things on the list included: house keys, bills, receipts, glasses, sunglasses, purs-es, wallets, hairbrushes, gloves, umbrel-las, bank cards, train or bus tickets, coats, diaries, personal organizers, batteries, passports, ID cards, software installation CDs, hats, laptops, watches, socks, jewel-ry (particularly rings and earrings) shoes, slippers, tablets, and e-readers.So, what’s going on? Most blame it on a hec-tic lifestyle. Others say it’s the fault of spouses or children for not putting things back where they belong. A few admitted to untidiness, absent-mindedness and a poor memory, with more than half wish-ing they were more organized.
You need to assign a place for some-thing and always put it back there. And
you need to make sure everyone else in the house knows where to put it back too. You also need to keep your house tidy, label boxes clearly and designate a place near the front door for all the items that you need in the morning. A good idea would be to have a shelf there with a bowl for your keys, purse, wallet and anything else.

ocabulary is the key to communication. Without it you can’t communicate
well. But how can you learn all those important words and expres-sions? And which ones should you focus on (there are more than 200,000 words in English!)? Would-n’t it be easy if you could just learn the 3,000 most commonly used words and that would be it? Well, there are about 3,000 words that are extremely common. You could sit down and learn them. Certainly, for Beginner and Ele-mentary learners, focusing on the-se high-frequency words is key to
V developing language rapidly and effectively. And from these 3,000, you can learn many thousands more.
زبان آموزان سطوح مبتدي و مقدماتـي واژه كلـيـدي را 3000بهتر است ابتدا
بياموزند و سپس به كمك اين لـغـات كليدي دامنه واژگاني خود را افـزايـش
. دهند
Take the word “rain”, for example. From this high-frequency word, you can make lots of other words: “rainbow, raincoat, rainfall, rainfor-est, rainwater” and “rainstorm”. And you could probably guess the meaning of all these words if you saw them in context.
Page 11
As well as that, there are several de-rivatives that can be formed from root words. For example, from the high-frequency root word “destroy”, you can create a noun (“destruction”) and an adjective (“destructive”). So, once you know the meaning of all the high-frequency root words, you can under-stand the meaning of their derivatives or associated words (compound nouns, etc.). Of course, some words are easier to learn than others. Some words are more complicated. They just don’t seem to make any logical sense. But don’t worry. For these complicated words you can use mne-monics. Mnemonics (pronounced “nemonics”) are memory aids. Mnemonics is in fact creating an image in your mind.
با آمـوخـتـن يـك واژه كليدي و ريشـه اي مـي توان معاني مشـتـقـات و تركيبات مختلف آن را در
. متون حدس زد
Page 12
The thing is, very few words are found in isolation. They are often in partnership with other words. Take the case of the high-frequency word “evidence”. It’s often seen in the ex-pression “a lack of evidence”. The key is to learn chunks of words: words in sentences, words in ex-pressions and words in phrases.
براي يادگيري يك واژه گاه لازم است كه آن .را در يك عبارت بياموزيم
But there’s another problem. You may be able to recognize the word, but can you use it in a sentence? Will it come to you while you’re speaking? The thing that’ll help you is… repetition. Simply repeat key phrases or expressions over and over again or could record them and listen to them until they become em-bedded in your head. They’ll come to you when you need them, be-cause now they’re part of your ac-tive vocabulary. Have fun learning words… but remember to learn them in context – with their friends!
تنها ياد آوري معني يك واژه كافي نيست. بلكه بايد بتوان آن واژه را در جمله بكار برد. با توان آنها را نهادينه كرد و در هنگام مقتضي بكار گرفت.اصطلاحات تازه ميو تكرار لغات
تصوير سازي از كلمـات در ذهـن يـا يـاديـار هاي بسط دامنه لـغـات ( نمانيك) يكي از روش

For example, an English student of Spanish explained how he learnt the Spanish word “charco” (“puddle”) by imagining a piece of “charcoal” in a puddle. Other times, you can associ-ate the word you want to learn with a word you already know in the target language.

RECIPE:
Ingredients
3 chicken breasts, cut into 1‐inch pieces
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup chicken broth
1½ tablespoons minced fresh ginger root
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons peanut bu er
1½ tablespoons honey
1 package (16 ounces) linguine noodles
¼ cup chopped green onions
salt/pepper, to taste
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add noodles and cook un l tender.
While noodles are cooking, add olive to a skillet and put on medium heat. Add

small pieces, this will not take very long.
Meanwhile, combine chicken broth, ginger, soy sauce, peanut bu er and honey
in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat un l peanut bu er melts and is
heated through.
Once your noodles are done, drain. Return to pot and combine chicken, noodles

Chocolate Revealed
The secrets of chocolate D o you like chocolate? It’s popular all over the world, but why? Scien sts have been trying to dis‐
cover its secrets. The main thing is that chocolate makes us happy. This may have something to do
with the 380 known chemicals found in it. The problem is that many of these chemicals appear in oth‐
er types of food too. So, it’s difficult to know why the ones in chocolate make us feel good.
Adam Drewnowski at the University of Michigan found that chocolate makes the human brain pro‐
duce natural substances, called optoids. These can stop pain and make us feel good. Others think that
we feel good a er ea ng chocolate because of a chemical called anandamide. This occurs naturally in
the brain and seems to give us a feeling of happiness.
Well, for a start, there’s more anandamide in dark chocolate than milk chocolate. So, you need to buy
some dark chocolate. Then, you should follow these five ps from chocolate makers Ghirardelli. They
say that when choosing chocolate, you need to use all five senses:
1. Sight: good chocolate has a shine to it.
2. Smell: rub the chocolate with your finger to release the aroma. It should have a deep chocolate
smell.
3. Sound: when you break a piece of chocolate it should snap crisply, crea ng a sound similar to
that of a thin piece of wood being broken.
4. Touch: the chocolate should melt easily in your mouth becoming a thick liquid.
5. Taste: good chocolate should not taste too sweet or too bi er.
So, why don’t you go out and buy some chocolate and put it to the test!
