* In an era of customized clothing where fashion cycles have become so fastthat they have exceeded the threshold of relevancy causing lead times tobecome shorter, there is a need for clothing that is custom-made but whichtakes less time to make. But it has not been possible due to the cost andtime it takes to manually measure, create patterns for that individual andstitch garments.
*Nowadays worldwide companies are experimenting with new technologieslike the 3D body scanning systems, 3D Modelling so that they can offer thecustomers a variety of design and fit options so that the clothing can becalled just for you.
*Fitting the complex shape of a human body is a difficult task, even withbody scanners and computer technology. The interactions between bodyshapes, pattern shapes, and fabric properties can create an exponentialnumber of possible fitting issues to be resolved. The development andtesting of these processes is still in its infancy, yet it is already possible tocreate a system that can provide well-designed custom-fitted garmentsusing 3D modelling & CAD.

* Fashion Cycles have become very fast.
*Zara, Topshop, H & M and George have become renownedfor spreading this phenomenon.
*Now a days, there are upto 20 seasons per year.
*For design concept to placement in the market, time
available is less (around 22-30 days).*Using 3 D Modeling, product can be designed faster and
placed in the market.
*There is no need to design & manufacture the product
for approval.

*BODY SCANNING and other new technologies have the
potential to change the way that clothing is made andpurchased.
*Many industries are customizing the products they make. Now
the apparel industry is making custom clothing using body
scanners and other emerging technologies.
*The vignettes on the following pages allow us to compare the
traditional model of mass production (today) with a future
scenario for custom production (tomorrow).

* Sketching
*The clothes we buy off the rack begin as a designer's concept; each new style
begins as a sketch.

*Pattern Making
*A pattern is developed and fitted to a fit model. The fit model is chosen because her
body size and shape represent the designers vision of the ideal customer for this style.A
pattern is developed and perfected on the fit model and then proportionally increasedand decreased (i.e., graded) to make a size range of patterns.

*Mass Production
*Garments of all sizes are sewn at the same time using mass production
methods. Each worker specializes, completing one task on every
garment. The mass production process provides a volume-costadvantage.

* Shipping to Store
*Garments are shipped to the store to be sold in size sets of identically
styled and proportioned garments.

* Trial : Different Proportions
*However, people of a single size come in a variety of shapes and proportions.
Each of these size 10 women (judged by hip measurement) has a different hip
shape, torso length, and bust measurement, but they all go to the fitting room
to try on the same size 10 dress.

* Result: Misfit
*The dress designed for the proportions and shape of the fit model cannot fit all bodieswell. In this example, the wrinkles indicate misfit at the armhole, bust, and high hip area.

* Body Scanning
*You are scanned in a 3D body scanner to collect quick, accurate body
measurements which will be used to achieve individualized fit.

* Flexible Production
* A pattern is automatically made to fit you using a computer-assisted design(CAD) system. Your individualized garment is made using sophisticated
machines and flexible processes that accommodate one-of-a-kind production.Increases in production costs are offset by reduced inventory.

* Complete systems for the digitization of the human body exist since morethan twenty years.
* One of the main users of this technology was the movie industry.
* The first 3D whole body scanning system, the Loughboroughanthropometric shadow scanner (LASS), was developed by the Universityof Loughborough (UK) in 1989 with the aim of conducting anthropometricsurveys.
* Only lately, in the mid nineties, whole body scanning systems began to beused also for uniform fit.
* This marked the start of 3D body scanning for clothing industry, which was
then finalized with the commercialization in 1998 by [TC]2 (USA) of thefirst 3D whole body scanner developed especially for the fashion industry.
