Page 2 Pastor’s note

Dear Parishioners,

For this week, I would like us to reflect on Mary's role in the plan of salvation that God has for us His people.

Through the celebrations that we have this month honoring Mary, we know that she truly plays an important

role in our lives. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and the celebration of the Feast of Our Lady

of Guadalupe, are celebrations that we celebrate not just because they are part of our liturgical calendar,

but also because these days are patronal feast days for this country and the whole of the Americas. It is

interesting to note that the United States - a predominantly Protestant country - have our Blessed Mother as

patroness. Now that is a true witness of our faith as Catholics. Amen!

However, let us be reminded that our Blessed Mother's role is to bring us to Jesus - she leads us to Jesus

Christ. She doesn't want us to have a devotion to her just for the sake of having a devotion to her. Our

devotion to our Blessed Mother should lead us to have a greater devotion to our God. Some might say, "If

that is the case, then why do we need to have a devotion to Mary?" The simple answer: Because we need all

the help we can get. Mary showed us that as human beings, we can allow God's grace to work in our lives -

she gave us an example to follow; through Mary's intercession ("They have no wine... Do whatever he tells

you." Jn. 2:3 and 5), Jesus performed His first miracle during the wedding feast in Cana; she was the first to

welcome Jesus into the world - the first temple of the Holy Spirit; and today, she continues to intercede on

our behalf praying for our needs. With all these and so many other things that she has done for us, how can

we not honor her? How can we not have a devotion to her? But again, our devotion to her is not an end in

itself; it has a purpose and that is for us to have a better relationship with God.

May our Advent Season truly be blessed as we ask for our Blessed Mother's intercession. Mary as a

powerful help tends to be taken for granted or forgotten by the faithful and we need to be reminded. That is

perhaps why many parishes, including ours, are named after her. Let us always be reminded that we have a

powerful help in the person of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In Christ,

Fr. Maro

Nuestra

devoción a nuestra Santísima Madre debe llevarnos a tener una mayor devoción a nuestro Dios. Algunos

¿Cómo no sentir

P. Maro
