Mayor presents Carl Lamm with Town Proclamation
Yesterday, Mayor Andy Moore presented Carl Lamm from WTSB Radio with aproclamation honoring his 72(!!) year broadcasting career. "Mr. Carl" signed off theair for the final time Friday, March 29th. Enjoy retirement, Mr. Carl and thank you forall you have done for the Town of Smithfield and Johnston County.
The Town of Smithfield will hold a litter cleanup day on April 13th from 7-11am at the following locations:
· Smithfield Community Park, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road· Bob Wallace Jaycee Kiddie Park, 350 S. Front Street· Smith-Collins Park, 909 E. Lee Street· Gertrude B. Johnson Park, 1222 W. Market Street
Litter Sweep provides an opportunity for civic groups, businesses, schools,churches, professional organizations, families and others to volunteer inkeeping Smithfield clean and beautiful. All necessary cleanup supplies willbe provided on the day of the event.

Regular Meeting Summary: 1. Mayor Moore presented a Proclamation to Electric Lineman Hunter Parker
recognizing April 18, 2019 as Electrical Lineman Appreciation Day. 2. Downtown Smithfield Development Director Sarah Edwards presented the
2018 North Carolina Main Street Champion Award to the Town of SmithfieldPublic Works Department.
3. Chief of Police R. Keith Powell presented Sergeant Dale Wood with the 2018Officer of the Year Award.
4. Mayor Moore administered the Oath of Office to new Police Officer DamonKenny.
5. Mayor Moore administered the Oath of Office to new Police Officer JosephHeck.
6. The Town Council approved Rezoning Request RZ-19-01, John A Whitley. 7. Town Council approved Special Use Permit Request SUP-19-03, Will Roland.
8. The Town Council tabled Special Use Permit Request SUP-19-05, BonnieGodwin for thirty days.
9. The Town Council approved the Consent Agenda. 10. The Town Council adopted Ordinance #499 to limit tethering in the Town of
Smithfield. 11. The Town Council recessed the meeting until April 11, 2019 at 7:00 pm to
discuss the FY 2019-2020 budget.
The Town Council regularly meets the first Tuesday of each month beginning at 7:00pm at theTown Hall Council Chambers located at 350 East Market Street - unless rescheduled. The JoCo Scrabble group - meets on Monday nights from 6
pm to 8 pm at the McDonald's in West Smithfield (W. Market
Street). There is no cost beyond whatever food you choose to
buy. This is a social group of adult (or teen) Scrabble
players. Players vary in ability levels, so don't hesitate to come

Book Club - The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield welcomes new members to its
daytime book club. Meetings are at 12:30pm on the third Tuesday of every month. Youth Adult
Book Club - Meetings are 6:30pm on the third Monday of every month. Club members suggest
the titles to read, and the library lends copies of each month's selection to the members. For more
