These gentlemen shared their running stories with the boys that included some of their achievements, but the focus was on developing your dream, pas- sion and discipline. The Mercury Athletic Club Chair, Mr Alan Smith and the Treasurer, Mr Cyril Vergie, made it possible for Kehoe Bur- gess, Keyur Kathard, Liam Cotter, Yusuf Peer, Huzaifah Gani, Tan- ner Cziganek and Nicholas Horne to receive their running licenses and club colours. Lythe Pillay, in Grade 12 at King Edward VII School, the 400 m Africa Youth Record holder, Deputy Head Boy and Head of Grade 8 Boarding, also addressed the boys. Lythe has a remarkable running resume that includes clocking 45.74 in the 400m in February this year and he holds numerous SA records. He has just returned from Poland where he ran in the SA Men’s 4 x 400m Relay and they have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics this year. I must add that he also has his Full Academic Colours! Lythe mentioned that “a goal is a dream with a plan”. We wish Lythe every success in his final year at school and his running events still to come. Keep an eye on this KES gentleman! NEWS FROM THE HEADMASTER

This week our senior assembly enjoyed an athletic theme with spe-cial guests invited to address the boys. These gentlemen shared their running stories with the boys that included some of their achievements, but the focus was on developing your dream, pas-sion and discipline. The Mercury Athletic Club Chair, Mr Alan Smith and the Treasurer, Mr Cyril Vergie, made it possible for Kehoe Bur-gess, Keyur Kathard, Liam Cotter, Yusuf Peer, Huzaifah Gani, Tan-ner Cziganek and Nicholas Horne to receive their running licenses and club colours. NEWS FROM THE HEADMASTER CONTINUED….

Picture below: Lythe Pillar; Mr Cyril Vergie; Nicholas Horne, Mr Alan Smith, Mr Ernstzen

Congratulations to Nicholas Horne who won the U13 Cross Country race at the Central Gauteng Champs! Thank you to Mr Carrolus for connecting our boys with the Mercury Athletic Club. Thank you to the dedicated Grade 7 Boys that assisted at the Grade R Observation Days over the past two weekends. These boys represented the school with pride- Strenue! Staff news: We congratulate Mr Magalankangqa on his selection as a Golden Lions U13 Rugby coach. We celebrate this achieve-ment and sincerely hope we can secure some rugby fixtures for the school and the province this year. I have been in several meetings with Heads from the local Boys’ Schools to discuss sporting plans for the rest of the year. We have agreed to a plan of action as soon as it is safe and the regulations allow.

COVID-19

We have been blessed to have been able to operate as a whole school for the past 15 weeks with no positive Covid cases amongst the staff and the boys. You would have received communication this week of two confirmed cases of our boys. The rates of infection in Gauteng have risen over the past two weeks. Many of our families have been isolating this term due to infections in their families. I would like to thank each family for informing the school and taking the right precautions. At this stage we have some boys that believe they have been a direct contact and they are now isolating.

We will keep you informed as to the wellbeing of our families and the King Edward VII Prep staff. Please be careful when you go out and be mindful of those around you!

We pray that our school, your family and our community will be safe, healthy and blessed. We also wish our families a full recovery from any illness that they may have at the moment!

BABY BEARS

Dear King Edward VII Preparatory School Community,

Baby Bears is planning to open as an Early Childhood Development Centre in close proximity to K.E.P.S. on 26 July 2021. 1 Oak Street has been purchased for the pro-ject and renovations are underway. The house promises to be warm and welcoming

and the perfect place for your child in Grade RR or RRR to start his/ her school career!

Jenny Lobban has been appointed as the consultant to get the project up and run-ning. She comes with 34 years of experience in the field of Education (15 years in the Foundation Phase and 19 years in the ECD

sector including setting up The Bridge at St John’s).

The aim of Baby Bears is to serve as a community school for the greater King Edward VII School family. Parents will then have the luxury and convenience of dropping their children off at one venue. Baby Bears will cater for children of both sexes who are three

turning four and four turning five (Grade RRR and Grade RR respectively). ECD centres use a great deal of recycling materials so please can we ask that you start collecting empty boxes, plastic containers,

bottle tops, corks, polystyrene chips, wool, wallpaper, wood offcuts, paper (of any description), plastic cutlery etc. We would also appreciate any toys, books and puzzles that are no longer needed at home. All these can be sent to the Grade R

Centre for Ms Khan’s attention.

We look forward to welcoming your child at Baby Bears. Please contact Jenny at [email protected] with any queries or if you are keen to obtain a Baby Bears Pre-school

Fee Structure Form and Application Form.
