MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION
27th Annual TFMA Spring Conference April 14-17, 2015 The Westin Park Central Dallas, Texas
Wednesday, April 15, Opening Plenary Session 1:15 - 2:00 pm
“Floodplain Mapping and Flood Forecasting Technology - Into the Future”
By: David R. Maidment, PhD Hussein M. Alharthy Centennial Chair in Civil Engineering Center for Research in Water Resources The University of Texas at Austin
David R. Maidment is the Hussein M. Alharthy Centennial Chair in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin where he has served on the faculty since 1981. He is a specialist in surface water hydrology and in the use of information systems in hydrology. He served as the Chair of two Committees of the National Academies which reviewed the FEMA floodplain mapping program in 2007 and 2009 and is currently a member of the National Academies Committee concerned with the affordability of NFIP premiums. He is also leading a National Flood Interoperability Experiment in collaboration with the new National Water Center operated by the National Weather Service to demonstrate a new national flood data, modeling, forecasting and inundation mapping system for the nation.
By the end of this presentation, the attendees should be able to:
Identify recent advances in floodplain mapping and flood forecasting tools.
Understand the foreseeable (short term) changes and improvements in technology related to flood planning.
Gain perception of the future about flood planning and advancing technologies.
Welcome to TFMA’s 27th Annual Spring Conference! We are excited to offer you and your colleagues the opportunity to come together in one place to discuss and share innovative practices in education. This year's conference offers important sessions addressing the issues facing floodplain professionals every day. A host of workshops, plenary and Concurrent Session speakers will challenge all of you to think in ways you never have and provide direction as you steer your communities down new and innovative paths. To that end, our conference program touches on every aspect of floodplain management at any level—corporate, county, city, state or federal.
Over 24 hours of continuing education with technical sessions carefully created to suit your needs in a variety of formats. The exhibit area will allow you to learn about new tools and technology available to you. The exhibit hall is no doubt an educational experience for you too. Finally, there will be ample time for you to connect with colleagues and friends by participating at all the events being offered, including the annual evening banquet, awards luncheon and the Closing Reception/Silent Auction on Thursday night.
So register early and get ready to attend one of the best conferences this year.
