27th Annual Scholars’ Luncheon Breaks All Records with Over 750 Guests! From Executive Director Cassie Motz
On July 16th, thanks to our generous friends and supporters, we celebrated the biggest Scholars’
Luncheon in CollegeBound’s 27-year history. Our team was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm,
support and attendance, which included CollegeBound Scholars of the Week, CollegeBound
alumni, University System of Maryland Chancellor Robert L. Caret, and White House Cabinet
Secretary Broderick Johnson. Together we honored all our CollegeBound scholars, including
Dante Daniels, the valedictorian of Mergenthaler-Vocational Technical High School and currently a
midshipman at the United States Naval Academy, as our CollegeBound Scholar of the Year. For me, the
highlight was when we asked all CollegeBound students and aspiring college students to stand and be
recognized. Nearly 200 students rose from their chairs to great applause. It was an inspiring moment for
everyone in the room, and just another reason why we have so much hope for our city.
CollegeBound Visits First Lady at the White House As part of the Reach Higher initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama

students LeVar Harris and Shantasia Baker for an unforgettable day
in Washington, including a special visit from President Obama.

actions.” Anthony enjoys collaborating with students,

the University of Baltimore School of Law, this CollegeBound event was
