School Uniform and Appearance Policy
The School Uniform and Appearance Policy has been updated with effect
from 1st September. The main changes are:
Grey not black for trousers, skirts, pinafores etc.
Black shoes
White t-shirt for PE
Please take this into account when you are buying new uniform for
September., but are happy for a child to wear black until they have grown out
of the item. We also ask that skirts, dresses and shorts are knee length or just
above. This is for the children’s dignity and comfort.
The policy is available on the school website or from the school office.
************************************************************************************
NEW!! PE kit in a bag. Take a look in reception at the PE kit in a bag, available from
September. For just £7.75, you will get black shorts, white T-shirt and a PE bag to keep
them in. See Mrs Hopkins in the office to place your order.
Achievements
Congratulations to all our Y6 children who have successfully - and happily -
spent time at their new secondary schools..
To Ben Dodson who took part in the Wootton Bassett Tennis Club Junior
Tournament.
Separated Parents’ Policy
In-line with other schools, and taking account of Royal
Wootton Bassett Academy’s position, we now have a
Separated Parents Policy, which is included within the
newsletter, and available on the school website. If this
policy will affect you, please take the time to read it and
understand the changes which will be implemented
from September 1st 2014.
Thank you.
Loom bands—must NOT be brought
into school. We have had to make
this decision as, unfortunately, some
children have been unkind to others
and this is causing lots of playtime
upsets. Thank you for your support in
this matter.
Sports Day—10th July
You are invited to come along to Sports Day and bring a picnic, chairs,
rugs etc. You may set up on the school field to the right of the
running track from 9am. At approximately 9.15am the children will
lead out from the hall in their classes and parade around the circle of
activities, giving them the opportunity to wave at you. Then each
class will position themselves at a starting activity. When the children are instructed they
will undertake their first activity. Once completed a signal will be given and all the children
will move on to the next activity. This process will continue until all the children have
completed all the activities. During this time you are welcome to move around the outside
circle in line with your child.
As the children rotate around the activities, points will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and
these points will be added up at the end of all the events to establish a 1st, 2nd and 3rd child
for each class. After the children have completed their activities we will then all move
around the track so that we can have an adult ladies and men’s themed race. So, if you’re
feeling fit, this is your chance!
We will then take the children back to the KS2 playground and line them up. They will then
be sent to you for a picnic. If your child has ordered school dinners on this day then they
will still receive it. Also, if you are unable to attend, please do not worry as our staff will
have lunch with your child. After the picnic we will then ask all the children to go back to
the playground and meet their teacher. We will then gather around the centre of the circle
in classes and present medals to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners for each class. At this point we
will also be presenting 4 awards for great effort. All the children will also be presented with
participation stickers when they return to their class afterwards.
School Fete—Friday 4th July
We need donations for the Bottle Tombola—if you have any bottles (drinks,
smellies etc) please bring them into the school office next week.
Also donation of good quality school uniform for the second hand stall (if it can be sent in on
an old coat hanger that would be ideal) Looking for logo jumpers, cardis, trousers, skirts,
dresses, pe kit, book bags etc but it must be in good condition.
We’ll also be asking for cakes to be brought in on Friday for our Cake Stall.
A lot of requests we know but hopefully it will make for a great fete for everyone.
Guidance for Separated Parents Policy
Policy Statement
It is the case at Longleaze School that some of our children’s parents are separated. We recognise that this can be a difficult situation and our main aim is not to put any additional stress on the children concerned. The child is our main priority and we hope parents will make every effort to recognise this and support us and their child. This guidance will apply unless the school is made aware of any Court Orders in place and has a copy of the documentation as confirmation. Parents and partners may need to check on who has official parental responsibility and provide evidence of this. We will ask for sight of a child’s birth certificate on joining the school to confirm parental responsibility. Parental responsibility This requires you to ensure that your child receives the best care possible within the family unit. Parental responsibility means :
Providing your child with a name
Offering a secure and safe home
Providing your child with good discipline
Playing an active role in their education
Deciding how your child receives medical attention
Nominating a guardian for your child, if necessary School responsibility It should be noted that Longleaze School will:
Give access to formal documentation, such as reports, to both parents
Send routine school information, such as school trips, to the parent with whom the child lives. In the case of shared access, this will be sent to the parent with whom the child lives for the majority of the time.
Need to be informed through the contacts sheet as to the people we may call on in the event of an accident or emergency; these will be called in the sequence recorded on the sheet.
Need to be informed as to who is able to give messages to the school regarding the child’s welfare such as a change in travel arrangements or collection for medical appointments; this may include new partners.
Only accept one request for an appointment at Parents/Carers’ Evenings and other Parent Information Evenings unless there are exceptional circumstances. It is only realistic for teachers to discuss the child once per Parents/Carers’ Evening. We hope parents can make amicable arrangements to accommodate this. This policy is linked with our Safeguarding Policy where we have a duty of care to all our children.
The Governing Body of Longleaze School adopted this policy on 23rd June 2014
Parental Responsibility Guidance providing information on acquiring parental responsibility, in-cluding for unmarried fathers, civil partners and step-parents is available on the school website and from the school office.
