CALVES (234) Starts 10.00am AUCTIONEERS: TIM HECTOR 07818 056 049 CHARLIE COLEMAN: 07494 588 013
Another good entry today with Autumn calves starting to come forward after a wet
harvest with numbers a plenty and a good ring full of customers wanting to fill up for the
coming months.
ORGANIC Only the 3 today from Langford Farm with 3 super Angus calves out of British Friesian
cows meeting real demand to top at £245 for a tremendous Bull.
CONTINENTAL BULLS TO £300/HEIFERS TO £228 A very mixed run today with all grades forward. The best a quality Blue bull from George
James which really ticked the boxes at £300, with others to £248, £232 and £230.
Several Simmentals forward found real interest with a Bull from WH Longman & Sons at
£218 and another young calf from the Sealey family at £165. A quality Limousin from
the Haels made a strong £260 for a calf showing real potential. Medium quality calves
would easily be £170 plus, with only the real smallest under the £100 mark. Top end
heifers look very well sold today with the best from regular vendors C & P Milton topping
at £228, best quality mediums would consistently be £170 plus. Others traded from £50
to £100. Again, the Longmans Simmentals proved very popular topping at £166.
NATIVE BULLS TO £226/NATIVE HEIFERS TO £180 Once again Angus prevails as the buyer’s favourite choice with strong competition
throughout. A tremendous run of calves from the Davis family really stole the show
regularly passing £200 which shows quality is certainly rewarded in price. Even the
medium to smaller end showed little difference with only a few Angus Bulls under £120.
Herefords also found support for the best medium quality with Cross Key Farms topping
at £170 and £162. Hereford Heifers still look a good buy topping at £95. Angus heifers
follow the trend of the bulls with constant competition to top at £180 for J & D Tilbee of
Blackford. Smaller sorts sit very comfortable above the £70 mark.
FRIESIANS TO £110 FLECKVIEH TO £120
Another large entry of Friesians met a selective trade with the best finding very good
rearing homes to top at £110 from C V Salmon of Pilton with others to £99 and £80.
Smaller sorts found some competition with only the very smallest below £11, but plenty
between £20 and £40. Fleckviehs again prove popular with the best bulls to £120 from
the Phippen family for young calves.
The winner of the £25 for the top price Continental sired bull calf under 41 days
sponsored by Howard & Sons – Kubota, was a Blue bull from DA James & Son to £300.
Next week the £25 sponsored prize will be for the top price Holstein/Friesian.
