One platform, four festivals
5
The festivals of EDNO - Sofia Design Week, Sofia Dance Week, Sofia Contemporary (starting in 2012) and Sofia Architecture Week, represent a core platform in the candidature of Sofia for European Capital of Culture in 2019. This will be one of the most significant events in the contemporary cultural history of the country and a chance for Sofia to appear on the European map of culture. The subject of the European Capital of Culture will be more and more actively involved in the future media and public discussions and will develop as one of the most important topics in the country during the next few years. You have the opportunity to join in the process before everyone else and be identified with it. By taking this advantage you can be the leader, followed by the rest.
Winning project: logo system of Sofia – candidate for European Capital of Culture 2019
An international contest was held and on 10 Jun 2011 the International Jury announced its choice. More than 20 projects participated in an exhibition in open urban environment, part of Sofia Design Week Festival. The final choice was made by the general public through Internet voting.

MANIFEST
We all create! Whether intuitively or on purpose we design urban everydayness. We change urban spaces by our very existence. The urge to have fun, to create, to change, to communicate or just to contemplate captivates and sways the mind. At this very moment the city transforms itself into something so much more than a décor of buildings and streets – a flexible space filled with ideas, impressions and longings. A space in which we are all artists. Bulgarian cities compete to be European Capital of Culture in 2019 and this gives ground for a critical view upon the cultural infrastructure in both Bulgaria and Europe, with a look towards the avant-garde in the field today – Asia. Halls and museums, galleries and clubs, schools and community centers, squares and parks – whether existing or potential they all need creative ideas to transform them into up-to-date and inspiring spaces. Meanwhile artists, organizations and audience seek spaces to realize their ideas. Sofia Architecture Week 2012 Meets Europe and Asia, architects, urbanists, landscape architects, artists, managers, audience, in a debate about urban spaces for culture.
