FATHER MARIO’S NOTE
Prudent discipleship requires radical choices. In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites His followers to emulate the careful discernment of builders and warrior kings as they discern their response to His call. The cost of laying a sure foundation and being victorious in the way of discipleship is great. He is telling us up front the sacrifices it will take. His words aren’t just addressed to His chosen few, the Twelve; rather, to the great crowds – to anyone, to whoever wishes to be His disciple, which includes you and me! The radical choices He calls us to are challenging. We are to hate our old lives, renouncing all the earthly things we rely upon, to choose Him above every person and possession. Yet, although this is extremely difficult, He gives us the strength and the wisdom of the Spirit to guide us in all things. Discerning the priorities of life and ensuring that He is foremost is the most important first step. Once we have done that, permitting Him to guide us is vital. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” must be our mantra. Giving everything to Him means depending upon Him to guide us. As we surrender to Him, our dependence upon Him becomes greater – and the strength we have through the Spirit becomes even greater as well! After months of planning and preparation, our 98th Annual Labor Day Festival is upon us! I pray that we have an enjoyable time with great weather, fellowship, and financial success, as well as safety. Best wishes to everyone as the Grand Raffle occurs! Have a great Festival – and, as always, may the Lord be honored in all that we say and do!
In His love, Fr Mario Joseph Tizziani Pastor

Participation in Christ’s Prophetic Office – “Lay people who are capable and trained may also collaborate in catechetical formation, in teaching the sacred sciences, and in use of the communications media. ‘In accord with the knowledge, competence, and preeminence which they possess, [lay people] have the right and even at times a duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church, and they have a right to make their opinion known to the other Christian faithful, with due regard to the integrity of faith and morals and reverence toward their pastors, and with consideration for the common good and the dignity of persons” (CCC

LUMEN FIDEI – THE LIGHT OF FAITH – POPE FRANCIS
Today we begin a new document, the Encyclical
Letter Lumen Fidei, Pope Francis’ encyclical letter on the
gift of Faith, that gift that God has extended to us and how
the light of Faith needs to be nourished and reinforced so
that it can guide us on our collective and individual faith
journeys:
“The LIGHT OF FAITH: this is how the Church’s tradition speaks of the great gift brought by Jesus. In John’s Gospel, Christ says of himself: ‘I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.’ St Paul uses the same image: ‘God who said “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts.” The pagan world, which hungered for light, had seen the growth of the cult of the sun god, Sol Invictus, invoked each day at sunrise. Yet though the sun was born anew each morning, it was clearly incapable of casting its light on all of human existence. The sun does not illumine all reality’ its rays cannot penetrate to the shadow of death, the place where men’s eyes are closed to its light. ‘No one – St Justin Martyr writes – has ever been ready to die for his faith in the sun.’ Conscious of the immense horizon which their faith opened before them, Christians invoked Jesus as the true sun ‘whose rays bestow life.’ To Martha, weeping for the death of her brother Lazarus, Jesus said: ‘Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?’ Those who believe, see; they see with a light that illumines their entire journey, for it comes for the risen Christ, the morning star which never sets” (LF 1).

BIBLE STUDY Another Bible Study will begin this month at St. Cecilia’s. The Book of Revelation will be studied in a 12 week DVD course presented by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith. Revelation: The Kingdom Yet To
Come is an intriguing study that shows how the kingdom established by Christ in His Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. Here you will discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean. You will see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” It is a revelation of God as our Divine Bridegroom and the Church as his spotless Bride, forever united in a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage that we enter into every time we celebrate the Mass. Classes beginning on Tuesday, September 27
th,
will be held in the school from 7 to 9 pm. They will continue through December 13th. The cost per book for this study is $24.00. There is a sign-up poster in the Narthex for those interested in attending. Sign-ups need to be completed by next Sunday, September 11th to allow time to order the amount of materials we will need. Cost for your book will be collected at the beginning of the first class. If you have any questions please call Charlie Butler at 859-393-1461.
DIOCESAN DAY OF PRAYER FOR PEACE
His excellency, the Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, Archbishop of Louisville and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has asked the bishops of the United States to set aside Friday, Sept 9th as a Day of Prayer for Peace in response to the many violent acts that have occurred and continue to occur in our nation and in the world. All Parishes in the Diocese of Covington will keep their churches open during the day and have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at a time during the day for Adoration in order that the faithful may pray before the Real Presence of our Lord so as to pray for Peace. At
St Cecilia’s, we will have the Blessed Sacrament
exposed following the 8:00 am Mass and continue
through noon. Each Deanery has also been asked to celebrate a Holy Hour with the priests and people of the Deanery beginning at 7 pm. The Holy Hour for our Deanery will be at St Agnes Roman Catholic Church. Please plan to set aside time to attend this important opportunity to pray for peace in our lives and throughout the world.

MATTHEW KELLY - LIVE AT ST. CECILIA SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2016 AT 9:00 AM

23rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
MASS INTENTIONS
Each Mass that is prayed, normally has a particular intention which is prayed specifically by Father during the Mass – whether pronounced or silently. The intention is listed in the bulletin next to the Mass time. You are encouraged to visit or contact the Church Office to request that a Mass or Masses be prayed. The intention(s) may be for a deceased loved one, a birthday or anniversary, anonymous or for other reasons. Prayer, especially through the intention of a Mass, is powerful. Most dates throughout the year, excluding Christmas, Easter and New Years are normally available for request. The first anniversary of a death is always set aside to be prayed for the individual who has died. Receiving a requested date is based on a first reserved basis. Mass intentions are $10.00.
INTERESTED IN KNOWING MORE ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH?
In 1972, the Sacred Congregation for Divine Worship by Decree of the Second Vatican Council instituted the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). RCIA is essentially the process through which adults are fully initiated into the Catholic faith community. Is RCIA
for me? If you or someone to whom you ask the following questions (spouse, neighbor, co-worker, etc.) answers ‘yes,’ then RCIA may very well be for you!
• Are you a non-baptized person? • Were you Baptized as a Catholic but were
never confirmed or received Holy Communion?
• Were you Baptized, made First Communion but never had any religious instruction beyond these Sacraments?
• Are you a non-Catholic interested in knowing about Catholicism?
• Are you interested in becoming a Catholic?
The cut-out below may be used to inform the Church office of those interested in the RCIA.!!

RCIA
RCIA meetings will begin on Wednesday, September 21st. Are you or do you have a non-Catholic family member, friend, or co-worker, whether not baptized or baptized in another belief, who may be interested in the Catholic faith? Do you know someone who was baptized Catholic but not raised in the Faith, or does not know their Faith? Now is a good time to be getting the word out! Again this year, Fr. Mario will be leading most of the weekly discussions, assisted by an excellent RCIA Team. This promises to be a great time of spiritual discernment and growth in which individuals will learn of the Faith, be strengthened in their personal Faith journey, and the reception of the Sacraments will occur. Below is a recommendation sheet to fill out and drop in the collection basket, mail in, or drop by the office. Let’s try our best to reach out with the Good News of our Faith!!!
