Transparency
23 October 2014 VAS Annual Conference 2014
This is not transparency
“We are governed by the directors who are collectively responsible for decisions made by the board. Governance describes the structures, functions, processes and organisational traditions that have been put in place to ensure that the organisation is run in such a way that it achieves its objectives in an effective and transparent manner. Governance involves setting the strategic direction and directing the activities of senior managers. Governance isn’t management. Management is the day-to-day operation of the organisation within the context of the strategies, policies, processes and procedures that have been established by the directors. To ensure that we are able to meet all its legal and moral obligations as a Scottish Charity the board is supported by a main Board, with delegated responsibility to four sub-committees. All committees are made up of at least three members of the board and will be supported by the CEO and one other relevant member of the staff team.”
