THE EQUIPOISE® SYSTEM - A COMPLETE SYSTEM FOR PARTIAL DENTURE DESIGN

The Equipoise System provides you with a complete system for esthetic partialdenture design – from conventional to semi-precision milled and precision C&Lattachment applications.

THE EQUIPOISE BALANCE OF FORCE PRINCIPLEThe Equipoise principle of partial denture designprotects, preserves and strengthens abutmentteeth while directing all masticatory forces downthe long axis of the abutment tooth.

This is accomplished through the use of theEquipoise Class II lever design. The Class II leverdesign has the rest (fulcrum) opposite of theretentive tip of the clasp (resistance arm) and thedenture base (the effort arm). The clasp arm alwaysmoves in the same direction as the denture basewhile directing all forces down the long axis of theretaining abutment tooth. With the Class II leverdesign, you always obtain stability duringmastication and retention only when neededagainst dislodging forces.

EQUIPOISE C&E MILLED DESIGNThe C&E Milled Design features the application of a milled abutment crown (12degree milled undercut) with a precision C-rest (for stabilization and reciprocation)and a conventional E-clasp (for retention). This semi-precision design shows no metalwhile maintaining proper contact with the adjacent tooth.

EQUIPOISE CLASP PREPARATION GUIDELINES

The E-clasp is a lingual back-actionclasp that is fully reciprocated,vertically and horizontally.

Rest Preparation:The occlusal rest is prepared with acylindrical diamond stone. Onbicuspids the rests should be spoon-shaped and encompass 1/3 themesiodistal width of the tooth and atleast 2/3 of the buccolingual width.Molar rest seats should encompass1/4 the mesiodistal width and 2/3buccolingual width.

Rests on incisors are prepared overthe cingulum or on the incisal edge ofthe tooth. The cingulum rest shouldbe at least 1 mm deep and 1/2 thewidth of the tooth mesiodistally awayfrom the edentulous area. The incisalrest should be at least 1-1/2 mm deepand 1-1/2 mm wide.

Interproximal Preparation:An interproximal access of at least 1mm is necessary to give the minorconnector enough strength tosupport a well contoured rest. Thispreparation is made by removing 1/2mm of enamel from the abutmentand 1/2 mm enamel from the adjacenttooth. A 1 mm tapered diamond stoneis recommended. Rubber wheel orpolish cut surfaces.
