  • Lufthansa plane narrowly misses drone over Warsaw

A Lufthansa plane narrowly missed colliding with a

    drone while approaching Warsaw's Chopin

    International Airport on Monday

According to The Aviation Herald, the Embraer ERJ-195

plane from Munich was on its final approach to the

Warsaw runway when its crew reported in a quite aggravated tone that a drone was pinpointed about 100 metres from the airplane. Flight staff apparently told those on duty at the Warsaw

control tower that the situation was really dangerous and that the Poles should take care of their airspace. Staff in Warsaw apparently reponded in an apologetic fashion.

  • militants from pilot -ex13 Lufthansa dismisses

training programme The women say President Buhari should be held

responsible if their children go back to the creeks to

    take up arms.

Angry mothers of the beneficiaries of the amnesty programme, laid siege

on the office of the body co-ordinating the ex-militant leaders,

Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI). They were protesting about the dismissal of their children from various

training programmes and facilities all over the world. The women say President Buhari should be held responsible if their

children go back to the creeks to take up arms. This is coming on the heels of the dismissal of 13 ex-militant pilot

trainees, by Lufthansa, over un-paid fees. A spokesman of the ex-militant leaders, Pastor Rueben Wilson called for

calm, saying The peace we are enjoying in the Niger Delta area today is because of the Amnesty Program initiated by your predecessor, President Umaru Yaradua, because he had the interest of the Niger Delta people at heart. You will also recall that as a result of the Amnesty Offer the country went from producing 900 barrels to over 2million barrels of crude oil per day. The parents who are infuriated at the attitude of President Buhari administration of more than one months of assuming power wonder if his words at the inaugural speech of strengthening the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) is just lip service and deceit. Wilson added that Mr President should not lose sight of the issue that brought about the Amnesty Programme. save it from total collapse. Mr. President, we use this medium to remind you and the good people of Nigeria of the promises to the people of Niger Delta about positive changes. Nigerians have since voted you into power because they need change; but from what we have seen so far we have reasons to doubt how soon, if at all, the change will come. The amnesty programme was initiated by Late President Umaru Yar'adua

as a way of reducing youth restiveness in the Niger-Delta.

  • freighter crash747 NTSB: Shifting cargo caused fatal

freighter that crashed seconds after takeoff from 400 -747Boeing National AirlinesA

Bagram, Afghanistan, on April 29, 2013, was likely caused by inadequate restraint of

large military vehicles being carried onboard, according to a National Transportation

Safety Board (NTSB) investigation. The crash killed seven crew members at the start

of a journey to Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The aircraft was carrying five mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles

weighing up to 18 tons each, which was being handled on behalf of US Transportation

Command. The crash was captured on the dashboard camera of a vehicle passing Bagram

airbase at the time. The 747 was seen climbing steeply immediately after takeoff,

before seeming almost to pause a few hundred feet off the ground, rolling

approximately 90 degrees starboard and plummeting to the ground, where it burst into

flames. According to the NTSB report, it was the first time that National Airlines had attempted

to transport five MRAP vehicles. These vehicles were considered a special cargo load because they could not be

placed in unit load devices and restrained in the airplane using the locking

capabilities of the airplanes main deck cargo handling system. Instead, the vehicles were secured to centerline-loaded floating pallets and restrained to the airplanes main deck using tie-down straps. The NTSB report said that upon takeoff, the airplane immediately climbed steeply then descended in a manner consistent with an aerodynamic stall. The resulting investigation found strong evidence that at least one of the MRAP vehicles . . . moved aft into the tail section of the airplane, damaging hydraulic

systems and horizontal stabilizer components such that it was impossible for the

flight crew to regain pitch control of the airplane. The report added that the FAAs inadequate oversight of National Airlines handling of special cargo loads, such as that being carried on the accident flight, contributed to the accident. The investigation found that National Airlines cargo operations manual not only omitted critical information from Boeing and from the cargo handling system

manufacturer about properly securing cargo, but it also contained incorrect

restraining methods for special cargo loads. The NTSB recommended the FAA create a certification process for personnel

responsible for the loading, restraint, and documentation of special cargo loads on

transport-category airplanes. Other recommendations call on the FAA to improve its

ability to inspect cargo aircraft operations, specifically those involving special cargo

    loads.
