Today We Look At Several Fruits Of The Spirit Beginning With “LOVE”

• Rom 12:9-11

• Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love , in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;

Love is A Wonderful Thing

Rom 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore

love is the fulfillment of the law. 1 Cor 13:4-8 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not

envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails.

We discovered …

• Our love has a reason behind it

• 2 Cor 5:13-15

• For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

How Do We Show It ?

• 2 Cor 8:24• Therefore show to them, and before the

churches, the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf.

• In this case it was their willingness to help financially, the poor Christians of Judea

• 2 Cor 9:1-3• Now concerning the ministering to the saints,

it is superfluous for me to write to you; 2 for I know your willingness, about which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal has stirred up the majority.

In other cases it is ….

• It lead early Christians to think spiritually• Acts 2:42-45• 42 And they continued steadfastly in the

apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

• The lack of fear because of this love• Acts 5:26-30• 27 And when they had brought them, they

set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying,"Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's blood on us!"

• 29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said:"We ought to obey God rather than men.


• The care for another’s spiritual well being

• Gal 6:1-2• Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any

trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

The Second Is “Joy”

• When should there be “Joy”• Matt 2:9-10• When they saw the star, they rejoiced with

exceedingly great joy• Acts 13:51-52• And the disciples were filled with joy and with the

Holy Spirit. • What caused the joy among them• Paul and Barnabas bringing the gospel after they

had just been expelled from the prior city. Are we excited today to hear the gospel?

Does it make you happy …

• It did for Paul under trying circumstances• Acts 20:22-24• And see, now I go bound in the spirit to

Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy


• Happy that you can suffer for his cause• Phil 1:27-28• Only let your conduct be worthy of the

gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.


• Happy that you can suffer for his cause

• 1 Peter 4:14-16

• But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.

What will be the end of your Joy

• John wrote• 3 John 4• I have no greater joy than to hear that my

children walk in truth. • Peter wrote• 1 Peter 4:13-14• but rejoice to the extent that you partake of

Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy . 14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.


• Jude 24

• Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy ,


• 2 Cor 12:2-4• I know a man in Christ who fourteen years

ago — whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows — such a one was caught up to the third heaven . 3 And I know such a man — whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows — 4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

The Third Is “Peace”

• Peace Offerings• Lev 3:1• 'When his offering is a sacrifice of a peace

offering, if he offers it of the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD.

• Why did they need to offer a “Peace Offering” to the Lord?

• Their sins broke down the relationship with God

SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS• Offerings to God in Old Testament times by

which man hoped to atone for his sins and restore fellowship with God. The Bible depicts man as a sinner abiding in death and destined for death. He abides in death because he is separated from fellowship with God and unable to restore that life-giving fellowship (Rom 5:12; 8). The sentence of death hangs over man because of his identity with Adam's fall (Rom 5:14), his enmity toward God, and his constant sinning (Gen 6:5; 8:21; Rom 3:10). Ultimately, this will result in physical death and eternal suffering in hell.

Peace Broken By Sin & Returned Through Grace

• Rom 5:12, 14, 15• Therefore, just as through one man sin

entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned — 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.

Our “Peace” Comes Through Faith in the Gift of Grace

• Rom 5:1-3

• Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

No Reason To Doubt HisPromises of After-life

• John 14:1-4• "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe

in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know."
