Welcome to the 22nd Annual Golf Classic to support the mission and ministries of the Sisters of St. Joseph. It is a day to celebrate the wonderful partnerships the Sisters enjoy with you our friends and supporters. Because of your help we can continue our mission to meet the needs of the dear neighbor and undertake ministries that reveal the healing, liberating and reconciling love of God.
Partnering with you and other dedicated persons to work for justice and uphold the dignity of all life, our mission is vibrant and visible in continuing and new ministries as we:
• Educate more than 3,000 young women who attend our six high schools.• Support over 300 immigrant women as they learn English and contribute to family and community
life in The Learning Connection for adult education.• Serve in parish ministry throughout greater Long Island and in Puerto Rico.• Minister to the aged and infirmed in our 188-bed Maria Regina Skilled Nursing Facility.• Empower women who have been released from prison and their children at Providence House and
Hour Children.• Advocate for social justice in the areas of immigration, human trafficking, peace and nonviolence,
accessible healthcare and affordable housing.• Promote sustainable living as we partner with seven organic farmers to cultivate our land and provide
affordable and nutritious food for our neighbors.• Collaborate with the Long Island Community Foundation, Peconic Land Trust and other groups to
explore land preservation and environmentally sound waste management.• Provide over sixty percent of the energy needed in our Motherhouse complex with solar energy.• Welcome young women to a one-year volunteer service Program, St. Joseph the Worker. You play a vital role in our efforts to live our mission in this time in history.
Today, we celebrate and honor John Cameron whose generosity and professional expertise has influenced and enabled many of our sustainability efforts to move forward. He has generously supported the education and empowerment of young women in our high schools.
The Sisters of St. Joseph thank our Tournament Sponsor Cameron Engineering, and all of our sponsors who not only help to make this day a great success, but whose continuing support is so vital to our mission. Thank you for your gifts of encouragement, love and support. Our Sisters continue to pray for you and we ask you to pray for us.
I hope you have a wonderful day of golf and companionship. I look forward to enjoying this day with you.
Gratefully,
Sister Helen Kearney, CSJ President
