    This program will be based on anexpression of interest and is open toa very limited number of schools. It issuggested that schools nominate membersof their leadership team to attend theprogram. Teams will establish a policyframework to develop a planned approachto the use of data for identifying wholeschool, specic team and individualprofessional learning needs. This programwill combine professional learningopportunities with intensive in-schoolsupport for leadership teams and aspiringleaders. Professor Stephen Dinham,

    The Productive Schools Productive TeachingProgram will be initiated by Professor StephenDinhamStephen Dinham is Research Director of the Teaching,Learning and Leadership research program at theAustralian Council for Educational Research. His focus ison evidence based approaches to school improvementand leadership. He taught in government secondaryschools in NSW before being appointed to the Universityof Western Sydney where he held a number of positionsincluding Head of the Department of Curriculum Studies,Associate Dean (Postgraduate) and Associate Professor.In 2002 he took up a position as Professor of TeacherEducation, Pedagogy and Professional Development atthe University of New England.

    Professor Alma Harris will contribute to

    Productive Schools Productive TeachingProgram Workshop 3Alma Harris is pro-Director (Leadership), Institute of Education, London; and Chair in Educational Leadership,London Centre for Leadership in Learning, England,UK. She is internationally recognised for her work onschool improvement, with particular emphasis on ways inwhich leadership can contribute to school developmentand change. Harriss research work has focused uponorganisational change and development. Her writing hasexplored middle level leadership, teacher leadership,and leadership in challenging circumstances.

    Louise BywatersLouise Bywaters has worked as an educator,demonstration teacher, consultant and at executivelevel in the South Australian Public Service Departmentof Education and Childrens Services. For the last 10years of her career she was the founding Director of the SA Centre for Leaders in Education, a businessunit that designed, commissioned or delivered arange of professional learning programs for aspiringand appointed leaders of schools and preschools.More recently Louise has been in high demand as

    an independent consultant to the three educationsectors in South Australia undertaking services reviews,program evaluation, strategic planning and communityconsultations, training and development workshops andprograms, mentoring and coaching and whole schoolreview. In 2008 Louise was honoured with the AlbyJones Medal as South Australias most distinguishedEducational leader and the MacKillop Medal as SouthAustralias most distinguished educator.

    Mary HudsonMary Hudson is a very experienced educator andindependent consultant. She provides educationservices to a range of stakeholders including the threeeducation sectors in South Australia. Her work focuseson the facilitation of professional development, research,program evaluation and the design and implementation

    of appraisal and performance management systems. Herwork is widely known and is professionally respected andtrusted across the education sectors.

    Dr Neil CarringtonDr Carrington is currently the Foundation NationalDirector of the Leadership Centre for the AustralianCouncil for Educational Research (ACER). DrCarrington was formerly the Director of CarringtonConsulting Group specialising in Human CapitalDevelopment specically, ensuring that organisationsand individuals are able to perform at their optimum

    level. He specialises in strategic planning, performancedevelopment systems for staff, executive coaching andadvanced communication skill development. As well ashis initial teaching qualication he has a postgraduatequalication in Special Education, a Masters degree inEducation as well as a Masters degree in EducationalPsychology. His PhD into perceptions of intelligencewas judged to be one of the largest and most rigorousstudies of its type ever undertaken in Australia.

    This is an introduction level workshop for leadership teams focusing on givingand receiving rich authentic feedback. This is a practical session (guided practicein fours), on giving, receiving and facilitating feedback within a performancedevelopment based school culture. There is strong emphasis on the leader ascoach, 4-way feedback and scaffolding and the skill of deep listening. The workshopincludes an introduction to the skill of Facilitative Questioning.

    Louise Bywaters will facilitate an interactive session on contemporary leadership styles and

    understanding yourself as a leader. Jo Mason, MindMatters, will focus on leaders healthand wellbeing. This work will be supported by the Principals Panel facilitated by CarolynGrantskalns.

    Jo MasonJo Mason has been working on the MindMatters project since its inception in 2000. Sheundertakes professional development on health and wellbeing and has a particular interest inthe wellbeing of principals and leaders. She has a background in education and was a classroomteacher and administrator for 23 years. Jo has also worked as a Human Resource Manager inlocal government and in aged care as a Human Resource Manager.

    Carolyn GrantskalnsCarolyn Grantskalns is no stranger to South Australian schools. Formerly Principal of WildernessSchool she is now Principal of Lowther Hall in Essendon, Victoria. Carolyn will facilitate thePrincipals Panels throughout the workshop series bringing her knowledge and expertise frommany years in education both as a teacher and leader.

    The workshop focus is on succession planning for principals. It will explore with principals how to

    build capacity, attract, keep and develop their staff and then have the courage to let them go!!The Principals Panel will provide scenarios and school based examples around this issue.

    This Keynote address will be presented by Dr Kathy LaceyKathy Lacey is a consultant and formerly a senior fellow at the Centre for Post-compulsoryEducation and Life-long Learning at the University of Melbourne. The Victorian Department of Education and Training sponsored Kathys PhD, completed in 2003. The outcome of this ground-breaking research has been the development of strategic succession planning processes foreducation systems and individual schools and, in particular, strategies to improve the number andquality of applicants for principal class positions. Kathys research ndings have been of interest togovernment and non-government education systems across Australia, New Zealand, the USA, andthe UK.
