21 Days of Prayer Thank you for praying with Family Church for 21 days! Our goal is to pray for three areas:

My Life, My Church, and My World. Each day, one of our pastors has written a short devotional, questions for reflection, and a short prayer. We are dividing each week up this way:

We've decided to use the Message paraphrase for all of our scriptures in this 21 day prayer guide. Now let's pray together and watch how God changes us, our church, and our world! My Life – "My Condition and God"

"Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list." - Matthew 22:37-38 MSG

Jesus gave us the most important command - Love God! He said it should be first on any and every list. Before you and I can learn to love others, love the church, love our spouses, love our kids, love our crazy cousins and nosey neighbors...we must first experience the Love of God in its fullest. This happens only if you give your life to Christ and make Him first. Then, the love you experience from and in Him can be extended to others.

Questions Is Jesus your first love? Have you given your life fully to Christ? What area of your life do you need to fully submit to Christ?

My Prayer

Lord, help me to put You first in all things. I want to experience real love - the kind only You can give. You just don't give it - You are love! And I love You with all of me...passion, prayer, and intelligence. Help me to always put You first on every list I have. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

My Life – "My Condition and Others"

“Love others as well as you love yourself.” - Matthews 22:39 MSG The command to love our neighbor as ourselves strikes at the root of human failure. The seed of our evils is love for self and reckless disregard for others. We were designed to naturally love ourselves. We want food, shelter, protection, health and happiness. As we appropriately love others, hatred and other evils should decrease. All this is impossible unless we first love God with all of our being. Instead of acting like vicious animals, devouring and destroying each other, we are to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Questions Are you finding it hard to love others and yourself? Has your love become brittle, fragile and easy to fall apart? Do you ever get frustrated at your inability to love well?

My Prayer

Father, I have to thank You for looking beyond my faults and for loving me unconditionally. Forgive me when I fail to love others in the same way. Give me eyes to see the needs and hurts of the difficult people in my life and show me how to meet those needs in a way that pleases You. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.

My Life – "My Obligation to God"

"It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him." - Hebrews 11:6 MSG The first step in pleasing God is to get saved, by believing in Christ's redeeming work, for only through His righteousness can we please God. But once saved the believer continues to please God by trusting His word, living by faith and diligently seeking His face day by day. The more a believer trusts His word and seeks earnestly to know the Lord, the more they grow in grace and mature in the faith.

Questions Am I living my life in a manner that is pleasing to Him?

Am I trusting in the Lord with all of my heart and not leaning on my own understanding?

My Prayer

Father, I praise you for being a loving and patient Father. I realize how quickly and easily I can move from trusting You to doubting Your Word, especially when things do not go the way that I expect. Help me to earnestly seek You day by day, for I know that only as Christ lives in and through me, by faith, can I be pleasing in Your sight. It’s in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

My Life – "My Obligation to Others"

“Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:31-31 MSG An important part of our Christian journey is to treat people as we would want to be treated. Your character matters. We must act out the godly character (Fruit of the Spirit) modeled by Christ. How you treat others may very well lead them to or turn them away from Christ. Love people through your actions and your words. Love them because Christ first loved us.

Questions Who, by my actions and my words, have I mistreated that I need to repent to? Have I forgiven those who have lied to me, betrayed me, abused me, neglected me or intentionally hurt me? What is keeping me from extending that same grace and mercy to them?

My Prayer

Father, thank You for Your mercy and Your grace. Thank You for the forgiveness You gave on the cross. Help me to treat people the way You have called me to and correct me when I fail to do so. Help me to be quick to repent to those I hurt and quick to forgive those that hurt me. In Christ’s name I pray, AMEN.

My Life – "My Devotion to God"

"Or didn't you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don't you see that you can't live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you." -1 Corinthians 6:19 MSG God created our bodies. He formed Adam out of the dust and made Eve out of one of Adam's ribs. He even made us in His image. Jesus gave His body on the cross for us. So, if we give our life to Him then that means we give our body to Him as well. As a disciple of Jesus, there's no part of us - spirit, soul, or body that doesn't belong to Him. He paid too high a price for us not to submit everything to Him.

Questions What part of your body have you been keeping from the Lordship of Christ? (mouth-what you say, ears-how you listen to Him, feet-where you go, eyes-what you look at, etc.) Is there a certain sin that keeps plaguing you? Pray that the Lord will deliver you! My Prayer

Lord, my body is Yours! Every part is devoted and consecrated to Your service. Forgive me for ever thinking I could ever keep anything from You. I freely submit my life - spirit, soul, and body to You. AMEN.

My Life – "My Devotion to Others"

“Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.” - Romans 12:10 MSG I want you to think about the Christian brothers and sisters that you love deeply, so deeply that there are times when you have and will put their needs before your own. Paul says that we should love one another so profoundly that we hold one another in honor. This shows the devotion of an appreciation so great that you would prefer to see the person you love succeed even more than your own success. You truly desire the very best for this person because you love him/her so deeply.

Questions Do you know anyone like this? Do you know anyone that would prefer that you succeed more than them?

My Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come before You and ask that You take this heart of stone and replace it with a heart of Your love so that I may go and treat people the way You would, thank You for loving us the way You do, teach us Your love, Your way. In Your name Jesus I pray. AMEN

My Life – "My Application for Week 1"

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” - Romans 12:1-2 MSG Identify the things that make you who you are. For me, I’m a father, grandfather, a son, pastor, Life Group leader, friend, husband, and a golfer (this last one is debatable). These are just a few of the different roles that make me, me. Paul said that I should offer it all to God as a living sacrifice! Why? Because everything I do in all the different capacities of my life are to be done for His Glory. We realize all we do has eternal value.

Questions What is a barrier to you living this kind of life? What can you do to avoid it?

My Prayer

Father, You never disappoint. And although I’m not perfect, give me the grace and mercy to live for You this way. Lead me through my day by Your Holy Spirit. Give me Your power and protection to live life so that You are glorified by it. In Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN

My Church – "My Condition and God"

“And now I’m going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out.” – Matthew 16:18 MSG What an amazing statement Jesus made to Peter. This is the very same Peter who would deny Jesus, refuse to let Jesus wash his feet and even cause Jesus to call him Satan. It is no less amazing that Jesus would build His church on the flawed condition of Peter. Such an amazing grace is given to us still today as Jesus is still building His church on ordinary flawed people with extraordinary faith. Church is made up of flawed people with faith in a perfect savior.

Questions What has prevented you from being used by the Lord to build His church? How different is your walk with Christ today than it was this time last year? Is the level of your faith as such that Jesus can build His church upon it?

My Prayer

Lord, thank You for the love You have for people, that You would choose us to build Your church. Help us to have the faith that trusts You and help us to seek Your kingdom to reach a lost and dying world. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

"Let's see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25 The word "church" is a plural word when talking about God's people. A building can be "singular" but a people cannot. But, church isn't a building; it's a people. God created us for relationships. As the church, God has called believers to build relationships with one another for encouragement, love, and spiritual growth. God designed us to worship Him WITH others. We go to church with people, and we should be church to people.

Questions In the church, with who has God called you to build relationships? Who has God placed on your mind to encourage and pray for? What about doing that in person as well? How is your church attendance and participation? Ask the Lord how you can increase your relationships with others in the church.

My Prayer

Jesus, help me to be faithful to Your church. I want to build relationships with others who follow You so we can grow in You together, helping one another obey Your Word. Help me see people the way You do. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

My Church – "My Obligation to God"

You are Christ’s body—that’s who you are! You must never forget this.

- 1 Corinthians 12:27 MSG

Each of us has and should find our meaning and function as part of His

body. His body to Paul and us meant the church. To really find meaning

you have to use your gifts for the One who gave them to you, and to do

that you must be in the church. God set it up this way, the church needs

you and you need the church. The areas that God is calling you to serve

are going to be areas that you love, and areas that you will share that

love with others. The first thing to check is your heart.

Questions What part of the body (the Church) are you obligated to? Are you raising anyone up in the body?

My Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your greatness. Thank You that when I am weak, You are strong. Lord, the devil is always scheming, and I know he desires to keep me from spending time with You. Don’t let him win! Give me a measure of Your strength so that I might not give into discouragement, deception and doubt! Help me honor You in all my ways. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.

My Church – "My Obligation to Others"

Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! - Colossians 3:16 MSG Unity within the Church and with each other is a big deal to God. Notice this verse says “let”. We “let” or “give place” for God’s peace to rule in our hearts. God’s peace is accomplished by cultivating a heart of thanksgiving and praise toward God and a genuine grace-filled love for others. We can only do that as we deeply dwell in and generously give out the Word of God.

Questions As you get into the Word, is the Word getting into you? Do you bleed the Word when you are poked by the world? When someone is going through a challenging life experience, do you have an appropriate word of encouragement for them?

My Prayer

Father, it is only by Your amazing grace that we can be filled with Your

peace. As You build Your church, fill it with love and truth, and grant it

that unity which is according to Your will. Give me the grace to hear and

receive Your Word and to bring forth the fruit of the Spirit in my life. It is

by Your strength that I stand firm in the faith. Help me to encourage the

fainthearted with the power of Your Word. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray

these things. AMEN!

My Church – "My Devotion to God"

“But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.” – 1 Peter 2:9-10 MSG The church has a high calling. That calling is to be Holy as He is Holy. We have a priestly work to carry the gospel to all people. We must lay aside all that gets in the way of our total devotion to God. When we are devoted to God we are therefore the primary instruments He will use to carry out His mission. The mission of God is to glorify Himself, to win souls and to make disciples.

Questions Do your actions glorify God or are they simply busy tasks? Have you shared the gospel with those who are lost? Who are you spending time discipling today?

My Prayer

Lord, open my eyes to Your mission to be holy as You are holy. Help Your church to preach the gospel and be that willing instrument of peace. Help Your church to be totally devoted to You in all it does and be a beacon that shines Your light into a lost and dying world. May we be a place that glorifies You in all we do as we win souls and makes disciples. In Christ name we pray. AMEN.

My Church – "My Devotion to Others"

"Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith." - Galatians 6:10 MSG The community of faith - that's the church! If true community is going to happen as the church, we are going to have to work hard to achieve it (right now as Paul said). He mentions that the people of the church should be close to each other as well. The chances to do this are all around us - but we can miss them. Community doesn't just happen, you build it - one relationship at a time.

Questions Do you view church like Paul described to the Galatians? Is church a place and a people you long to be with? Are your actions benefiting or hindering the church?

My Prayer

Lord, help me be someone who truly builds the community of faith. I want to serve others in a way that benefits them and honors You. I desire to make the most of every opportunity to serve, give, pray, fellowship, and build the body of Christ. I desire a community of people to grow spiritually and worship with. Help me work hard to do my part. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

My Church – "My Application for Week 2"

Everyone around was in awe—all those wonders and signs done through the apostles! And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person’s need was met. - Acts 2:43-45. MSG God was doing the miraculous among them, wasn’t He? Do you want to see God do the miraculous today? Then get involved in God’s mission. There is not a more worthy, more amazing, more exciting endeavor than to be connected to the mission of Jesus Christ. He tells His followers to “Go into all the world and make disciples.” That begins right in your own family, your own church body. Being connected pushes us towards spiritual growth, being connected pushes us towards fellowship and being connected pushes us towards generosity. We all need to be connected. What a challenge!

Questions Are you connected to the Body? And what make you think that? Are you connected to a Life Group. If not, why not?

My Prayer

Lord, thank You for the people You have placed in my life who speak Your truths, love and wisdom. Give me a heart of discernment to know when You are using someone to speak instruction to me and courage to follow it. Fill me with your peace that if I take a wrong turn, Your purpose will prevail. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.

My World – "My Condition and God"

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. - John 3:16 MSG What a promise! And yet….what a consequence! Those without Christ are perishing, but those in Christ have the eternal promise of “everlasting life.” This comes not from our own human efforts, morals, or good deeds, but the promise is to those who realize that God’s love reaches down to us, was made possible through the payment of Christ, believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, and is received by grace through faith alone. He loves. He gave. We believe. We live.

Questions Have you received Jesus into your life as Lord and Savior? If not, invite Him into your life right now and let someone else know about your decision to follow Christ. If so, how has your faith changed you?

My Prayer

Father, I believe that you gave Jesus to save me from my sins. I confess that I cannot fully understand that love, but I thank You and praise You with all of my heart. Please forgive me when my life does not measure up to Your Word. I place my full trust in Your love to continue its transformational work of redemption in me. Thank You even more for ransoming me from my sin and giving me life with You. In Jesus' name I pray. AMEN!

My World – "My Condition and Others"

“Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places, reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives. When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!” – Matthew 9:35-38 MSG Jesus spent time with people in the worst of their mess, their hurts and their pain. He didn’t shy away from difficult situations or dismiss hard relationships. In fact, He had great compassion on people for they were lost sheep in need of the Great Shepherd. There are so many people in need of a shepherd and God has called us to step out of our comfort and into their mess.

Questions Are you willing to step out of your comfort into the uncomfortable mess of others? Will you have compassion on others the same way Jesus did?

My Prayer

Lord, would You help me to be bold enough to step out of what is easy and ordinary and take a risk as I love people right where they are. Help me to have compassion on people as they are sheep without a shepherd. Father would You provide laborers in your field and be glorified in our work. In Jesus name, AMEN.

My World – "My Obligation to God"

"Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age." - Matthew 28:19-20 MSG The Great Commission is Jesus' mandate and mission for believers. These were some of His last words before ascending into heaven - His charge to His disciples to carry on the good news of His resurrection from the grave and defeat of death and sin on the cross. Winning souls with the gospel is the appointment given to all believers. Helping them grow in Christ is discipleship and what we do every day after they are saved.

Questions Who is going to heaven because of me? Who comes to mind when you read this that needs the gospel? Am I being a disciple that shares the gospel and makes disciples?

My Prayer

Lord, help me to be about Your mission, not my own in this life. You have called all believers to be soul winners and disciple makers. I want to share Your good news with my friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. Help me to realize this is a matter of eternal life and death - heaven and hell. Thank You for saving me and may I share Your saving news with others. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

My World – "My Obligation to Others"

“The servant went back and told the master what had happened. He was outraged and told the servant, ‘Quickly, get out into the city streets and alleys. Collect all who look like they need a square meal, all the misfits and homeless and wretched you can lay your hands on, and bring them here.’ “The servant reported back, ‘Master, I did what you commanded—and there’s still room.’ The master said, Then go to the country roads. Whoever you find, drag them in. I want my house full!” - Luke 14:21-23 MSG Considering our responsibility to reach those who have yet to be saved. We usually don’t mind serving the Lord in those places that are familiar but that alone is never enough. We cannot be content to seek out those, solely within our areas of comfort. We must be willing to go out into the highways and byways, wherever the least, lonely and lost exist! Instead of going out and pursuing those who have yet to come to faith in Christ, we sometimes expect them to come to us. Jesus commands us to go to them!

Questions How often do you invite people to church? How often do you share your faith? Will you make a renewed commitment to follow our Lord’s command to share our faith with the world?

My Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come to You today and thank You for the privilege of praying for others. Deepen our love for You and for the people around us. Raise up leaders who will serve You faithfully at all costs. Help us all to live Your values and make us bold in our faith. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

My World – "My Devotion to God"

And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world. – Acts 1:8 MSG I firmly believe that all of us need to get out and speak to everyone we see about Jesus. I also believe that our life, as much as our words, is witness to the world about Jesus. What I do and how I live my life matters as much, or more, as my words. We shouldn’t be the reason someone else doesn’t want to become a Christian. If they don’t see any difference between the “Christian” in you and anyone else, why would they want to be one? Our lives should be reflective of the benefits (Fruit of the Spirit) that come from knowing and pursuing Jesus, so that others will want to receive and know Christ as well.

Questions How do people see you? What kind of witness are you? What kind of witness do you want to be? Where is the inconsistency between your life and your message?

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, I need Your powerful Holy Spirit to live my life in a way so that what I say and what I do honors You and is reflective of Your Word. Enable me to be effective in sharing my faith so as to make Your name great in my world that You have given me. Use me to accomplish Your will on earth as it is in Heaven. In the name of the Jesus I pray. AMEN!

“Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16 MSG Our devotion to people means we are going to be willing to let the light of Christ shine through us to them. We may very well be the only bible verse, church service or representation of Jesus, they see all week. In order to show our devotion to others, we must first be who God has called us to be and then we call those things out of others to encourage them to follow Jesus and find their calling and purpose in Him. We are devoted to others because Christ is devoted to people. Love God and Love people. That is the true nature of letting your light shine before men.

Questions Who have you been afraid to let your light shine in front of? Who do you know that needs the gospel, but you have yet to tell them? Will you pray that God will give you the boldness to share your testimony to encourage others to follow Jesus?

My Prayer

Lord, thank You for the light you shine on us. Help me to be unafraid to share the gospel with others. Help me to be bold in my witness and committed to the mission. Thank You for being a good God and a generous father. In Jesus name, AMEN.

Congratulations! You have completed 21 Days of Prayer with Family Church! We have prayed for our lives, our church, and our world! One thing is sure - prayer works because God is always at work! The question really isn't, "Is God working?". The question is, "Is God at work in me?". My prayer is that God is at work in you, setting your heart right, so He can use you to make a difference in His church and in this world that so desperately needs Jesus. Remember, revival doesn't start in a meeting somewhere or someone else - it starts in the heart, mine and yours.

Questions Is your prayer for God to do what's best and set the world right in you, your church, and your world? What has God taught you through this prayer journey?

Lord, do whatever You want to in me! Humble me. Use me. Change me. My prayer is for revival to begin in me so I can bring revival to the church and the world around me. Help me continue to meet with You daily beyond this 21 Days of Prayer. Start a revival fire in my soul that burns bright for all to see You! In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.
