YOU'RE INVITED We are excited to announce to the adult members of our community this Global Programs opportunity to travel to Israel. This trip is open to alumnae and friends of Holy Child. Participants must be 18 years or older.

HIGHLIGHTS The trip will focus primarily on the history, geography, and culture of Israel, with an in-depth experience of Israel's connection to the Jewish and Christian faiths. There will be opportunities for prayer at various significant sites, as well as prayer services and options for Catholic Mass. The group will travel through Israel with stops at the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, the Golan Heights, the Galilee region, Nazareth, and Tel Aviv. We will tour the old city of Jerusalem, and numerous Christian churches and holy sites, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of the Annunciation, the Via Dolorosa, and the Mount of Beatitudes. The group will also visit the Wailing, or Western, Wall and Yad Vashem, Israel’s national memorial to the Holocaust.

Friday, July 6 – Depart USA on an overnight flight to Israel Saturday, July 7 – Going Up into the Land – Arrive in Israel to be met and assisted by your ITC representative. Ascend to Jerusalem through the biblical Ayalon Valley. Look out over the Old City of Jerusalem and its environs from the Haas Promenade. Check into the King Solomon Hotel in Jerusalem. Dinner at hotel. Orientation session. Overnight: King Solomon Hotel, Jerusalem Sunday, July 8 – Jerusalem: The Mount of Olives and Old City – Look out at Old City and Temple Mount/Dome of the Rock from the Mount of Olives. Discussion about Jewish and Christian traditions regarding the Mount of Olives. Walk down to the Dominus Flevit. Visit the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of the Agony and Mary's Tomb. Enter the Old City of Jerusalem through St. Stephen's Gate (Lion's Gate). (Time permitting: Visit the Bethesda Pools and Church of St. Anna – Mary's Birthplace.) Follow the Via Dolorosa (the Way of the Cross) to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Mass and tour of the Church. Tour Mt. Zion, just outside the Old City Walls to visit Dormition Abbey, where Mary fell into eternal sleep. Continue to the Cenacle – Room of the Last Supper (Upper Room) and King David's Tomb, both located in the same building crowned with a minaret. Guest speaker from the ADL's Jerusalem office. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: King Solomon Hotel, Jerusalem Monday, July 9 – Masada and the Dead Sea Region – Set out early on the Good Samaritan Route across the Judean Desert to the Dead Sea region. Ascend Masada by cable car to tour King Herod's mountaintop fortress and the last stronghold of Jewish rebels 2,000 years ago. Walk in Ein Gedi Nature Reserve – Opportunity to bathe in waterfalls where David hid from Saul. Visit Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered and hear about the Jewish sect that lived there 2,000 years ago. Swim or float in the Dead Sea at Kalia Beach to experience a remarkable sense of buoyancy. Return to Jerusalem. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: King Solomon Hotel, Jerusalem Tuesday, July 10 – City of Three Faiths, History, Holocaust and Remembrance – Explore the Temple Mount (Haram El Sharif) to see the El Aqsa Mosque and Dome of the Rock – Hear about Jerusalem's sanctity as Islam's third holiest city. Visit the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, and explore its function and origins. Then walk through the Western Wall Tunnels to discover underground Jerusalem. Experience Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust memorial and museum, including tour of the Avenue of the Righteous, Holocaust History Museum, and Children's Memorial. Tour of Israel Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Shrine of the Book and the large scale Model of 1st Century Jerusalem, followed by free time to visit other exhibits on own. Recommendation: Check out the Archaeology Wing where the remains of the only crucifixion burial ever discovered are displayed. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: King Solomon Hotel, Jerusalem Wednesday, July 11 – Bethlehem, Jordan Valley to the Sea of Galilee – Travel to Bethlehem to visit the Church of the Nativity in Manger Square. See Qasr El Yahud Baptismal Site on the banks of the Jordan River east of Jericho, which is also associated with the ford where the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan and where the Prophet Elijah ascended to heaven in a Chariot of Fire. Travel north through the Jordan Valley to the Sea of Galilee. Visit Magdala, Mary Magdalene's hometown on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, currently being excavated and developed as a Catholic religious center. See the wreck of a 2,000-year-old fishing boat that was found in the Sea of Galilee and dubbed the "Jesus Boat" at Beit Yigal Alon on Kibbutz Ginosar. Late afternoon boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Check into the Nof Ginosar Hotel on Kibbutz Ginosar on the Sea of Galilee coast. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Kibbutz Nof Ginosar Thursday, July 12 – Sea of Galilee - Christian Sites, Golan Heights, and Sources of the Jordan – Explore Capernaum, where Jesus began his Ministry in the Galilee, including its lakeshore, where Jesus offered to make fishermen into fishers of men. Visit the ancient synagogue and Peter's House, marked by the ruins of an octagonal Byzantine church. Tour Tabha, site of the Multiplication of the fish and the loaves and see its iconic mosaic floor. Mass at the Mount of the Beatitudes, site of the Sermon on the Mount. Tour and tasting, followed by lunch at the Golan Heights Winery in Katzrin. Stand at the lookout and gain a geopolitical survey from Mt. Bental in the strategic Golan Heights for a special perspective on Israel's modern history and the complex geopolitics of the region. Walk in the Banias Nature Reserve, ancient Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus gave Peter the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, and which is a source of the Jordan River. (Time permitting: Visit Tel Dan, the ruins of the biblical city of Dan, where you will see a 3,800 year old mud arch - one of the oldest arches in the world.) Return to Kibbutz. (Time permitting: Swim in the Sea of Galilee.) Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Kibbutz Nof Ginosar Friday, July 13 – Across the Galilee to Megiddo, Mt. Carmel, and the Mediterranean Coast – Travel to Nazareth through Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle. In Nazareth visit the Basilica of the Annunciation and St. Joseph's Church ("Carpentry Shop"). Tour Tel Megiddo, associated with Armageddon from the Book of Revelation and exit through its fascinating ancient water system. The archaeological site Tel Megiddo was the model for James Michenor's book The Source. Look out from the roof of the Carmelite Mukhraka Monastery on Mt. Carmel and recount the story of the Prophet Elijah challenging the priests of Baal. Explore the Roman ruins of Caesarea Maritima on the Mediterranean Coast, including its Roman theater, promontory palace and amphitheater, to discover the city where Peter accepted Cornelius as the "first gentile convert to Christianity" and Paul was imprisoned before being expelled to Rome. A plaque bearing Pontius Pilate's name was discovered in the excavations of Caesarea's ancient theater. Check into the Metropolitan Hotel in Tel Aviv. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Metropolitan Hotel, Tel Aviv Saturday, July 14 – Tel Aviv and Old Jaffa – Guided tour of the Ayalon Institute, an underground bullet factory in Rehovot used by Jewish forces before the founding of the State of Israel. Hear about the establishment of Tel Aviv at the Founders' Monument on Rothschild Boulevard and see the Bauhaus architecture for which central Tel Aviv was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walking tour in the picturesque alleys Old Jaffa and look out from ancient Tel Jaffa at modern Tel Aviv. Then visit St. Peter's Church and the House of Simon the Tanner. Hear about Peter's vision in Jaffa, which changed the face of Christendom and its impact on Jewish - Christian relations. Remainder of afternoon is free to relax and get in last minute shopping. Late check out. Mass in Jaffa. Farewell dinner. Transfer to Ben Gurion Airport – See you again soon. Sunday, July 15 – Arrive in U.S.A. EILAT-PETRA EXTENSION – Saturday, July 14 – Eilat-Petra extension participants will stay overnight at Metropolitan Hotel, Tel Aviv. Sunday, July 15 – Eilat on the Red Sea – Morning airport transfer for domestic flight to Eilat. Descend into a Red Sea coral reef at Eliot’s Underwater Observatory, where you look out the window at the surrounding marine life. Continue exploring Eliot’s remarkable undersea world at the observatory's aquarium. Lunch on own. Check into Prima Music Hotel, Eilat. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Prima Music Hotel, Eilat Monday, July 16 – The Wonders of Petra – Early departure for Petra to explore the amazing red sandstone structures carved by the ancient Nabateans. Enter Jordan at the Arava Crossing and travel to Petra by bus (approx. 2.5 hours). Tour its Treasury ("Khaznieh"), the Roman theatre, and the impressive caves and rock formations of this Nabatean City. Buffet lunch included. Return to Eilat. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Prima Music Hotel, Eilat Tuesday, July 17 – Departure – Morning hotel check out – At leisure in Eilat, as per flight times. Domestic flight to Ben Gurion Airport. Check-in for U.S. flight at Ben Gurion Airport Terminal 3. Wednesday, July 18 – Arrive in U.S.A.
