More muscular, more luxurious Born of the desire to create a true gran turismo for the modern era, the Stinger is a rare combination of high power, handling finesse, stunning looks, a luxurious, spacious cabin, innovative technologies, and exceptional on-road comfort.

The Stinger’s stunning looks reflect nearly eighty years of perfecting the form, and capture all the breathless excitement that has surrounded this class of vehicle ever since it first appeared in Italy. The classic GT proportions of long hood, deeply-raked windshield, and low-slung cabin only intensify the sense of power in motion and express the thrill of high performance long distance driving.

The gran turismo legend continuesThe great ‘Gran Turismo’ (or GT) cars of the past had two important attributes: powerful, spirited performance, and a truly luxurious cabin with ample room for four or five passengers.

The idea was to make long journeys more exciting and pleasurable, whether driving or simply taking in the scenery and enjoying the ride.

Not surprisingly, the beauty of the greatest GT’s was not confined to the sumptuousness of their interiors. Some of the most stunning body shapes ever designed were for GT’s.

The Stinger is proud to carry on this tradition. Since its arrival in 2017, the Stinger has won widespread acclaim for bringing the GT into the 21st century. Subsequent updates only confirm its credentials as the ultimate grand tourer, a car than makes every journey more memorable.

The Stinger offers a choice of two highly potent, performance-driven engines. The Lamba II, twin turbo 3.3 litre V6, found in the Stinger GT Sport, achieves exceptional torque (510Nm) across a broad range from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm. Now standard is a bi-modal electric variable exhaust valve, which increased maximum power to 274kW.

The Theta II 2.0 T GDi engine found in the Stinger GT Line deploys a single twin scroll turbocharger, producing a maximum power output of 182 kW at 6,200 rpm, and 353 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 4,000 rpm.

Born and bred for performance

Both engines are paired with a smooth-shifting, 8-speed automatic transmission delivering power to the rear wheels. For more involvement in the gear shifts, and fuller enjoyment of the Stinger’s performance capability, paddle shifters are mounted on the steering wheel.

Keen drivers will also appreciate the Dynamic Stability Damping Control which improves vehicle stability when the car is driven enthusiastically, especially on tight, twisting roads.

Even greater control of the Stinger’s driving characteristics can be achieved by using the Drive Mode dial on the centre console. There are five settings that adjust engine response, transmission changes, steering effort, and suspension, the settings being Smart, Eco, Comfort, Sport and Custom.

All eyes on StingerGrand tourers are nearly always distinguished by their long sweeping lines, that exude confidence and power. The Stinger sets a new bar in this regard.

While the overall impression is of an assured, purposeful, high performance 5-door vehicle, there are visual cues that only intensify the Stinger’s GT character. The bold front styling has Kia’s distinctive new logo, with the signature tiger-nose grille sitting between LED front headlamps that are paired with LED running lights. Massive air intakes, a deeply creased bumper and repeated colour contrasts all speak to the muscularity that lies under the bonnet.

The Stinger’s road presence is further enhanced by 19” alloys, which, on the GT Sport, veil imposing red Brembo brake callipers. The impressive quality of the exterior finish can be seen in the dark chrome finished wing mirrors, with their LED indicators.

To the rear, we find modern, stylish rear LED taillights that illuminate right across the tailgate, while four chrome-coated oval exhaust tips further confirm this is a performance vehicle.

The Stinger confirms its place among the great GT’s as soon as you get into the sumptuous cabin. That’s because everything here is about luxurious comfort, making short and long journeys more pleasurable.

The seats play a vital role in this. While the GT Sport’s seats offer the added luxury of Nappa leather, even greater comfort lies in the supportive design of the seats in both models. The driver’s seat is 8-way power-adjustable, with 4-way air cell lumbar support. The thigh cushion is also extendable at the press of a button, and the side bolsters are adjustable.

The driver’s and front passenger’s seats are heated, but the pleasure doesn’t end there. Both offer cooling ventilation as well, with the seat cushion and seat back featuring airflow perforations for the ultimate comfort. The dual-zone climate control allows front and rear passengers to set and enjoy their own preferred temperature.

Of course, if you love a cooling breeze in the cabin on long journeys, simply open the power sunroof which is standard in both the GT Line and GT Sport. Admitting lots of overhead light, the glass sunroof makes the cabin feel even more spacious.

Other customisable features include the mood lighting system, which adds a subtle ambience to the cabin and now extends to 64 colours. Also, the impressive Integrated Memory System that saves two pre-sets for the driver’s seating position, outside rear-view mirrors, the heads-up display, and instrument cluster display.

The joy of the journey

Befitting a vehicle that sets the bar for driving pleasure and comfort, the Stinger showcases the very latest in infotainment technology.

The starting point is the 10.25 inch LCD touchscreen. Easy to read and easy to operate, the deftly positioned touchscreen combines important vehicle information with audio, media and satellite navigation.

A chrome bezel surrounds the 7.0 inch fully digital instrument cluster. This high-definition display not only is home to your instrument displays, which can be customised to driver preference, but also it provides key information about your vehicle status and your journey. This is complemented by the head-up display, which projects key driving information discretely onto the windscreen in the driver’s line of sight. This too can be customised, with information like the current speed zone, vehicle speed, cruise control and Blind Spot Detection among the choices.

A variety of connected car features includes the Remote Engine Start system, which allows owners to start their car remotely using the Stinger’s smart key. Also useful is the hands-free smart power tailgate that opens automatically when the smart key is detected nearby for three seconds or more. The driver can also set the preferred opening height and store this in the smart key’s memory.

For music lovers, the 15-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system will be a joy. Both cars are equipped with this impressive system that has been optimised for music sourced from smartphones, and features subwoofers that resonate in hollow parts of the frame and body,

Your safety is assuredThe Stinger is equipped with an extraordinary range of safety systems, making it one of the safest cars on the road as well as one of the most beautiful.

Kia’s Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) are among the world’s most advanced with Lane Follow Assist (LFA), Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) with Junction Turning, Safe Exit Assist (SEA) and Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA). The highly innovative Blind Spot View Monitor (BVM) in the supervision cluster displays a live video feed of what’s behind or alongside you when you indicate a turn or lane change.

Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA) is another important safety feature. This alerts the driver and stops the car if it detects another vehicle approaching when reversing out of a parking space. You also have rear parking sensors to let you know how far you are from vehicles or objects behind you, plus the rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines that indicate your path as you reverse.

The rear-view camera is complemented by the Around View Monitor with parking guidance. This intuitive system combines four wide angle overhead shots to provide a bird’s eye view of the surroundings to the rear, side, and front, when parking or moving at less than 20km/h.

Stinger has seven airbags to protect you and your passengers, in the unlikely event of a collision, with driver and front passenger, front-side, and side-curtain airbags, along with a driver’s knee airbag as standard.
