MatchingOne of the main update purposes was advancing of Matching function and make it easy for users.Therefore, we advanced the surface treatment algorithm to make smooth surface STL from CBCT.The CBCT STL which has a more smooth surface can present a more detailed teeth shape and it helps the matching process. In addition, we changed the matching algorithm to calculates the surface of each STL around each point from the current matching method which matches the 3D coordination of each 3 points on both STL.

We wish it helps our users save their time & effort for matching.


Development team note

CBCT, LimitationDespite our effort, there was still a limitation come from CBCT.CBCT artifact(blur) exists on the surface of teeth even it is natural teeth. It makes a discrepancy when we convert it to STL file and affects the accuracy of matching. We added the sagittal line to clarify teeth position and made the user guide to choose the reasonable color for STlIZATION. But we still got the problem to identify the outline of teeth. So we recommend that a user should check the accuracy of matching via STEP 2 Manual matching mode.

Excuse, but 50% more…The above image showed the matching accuracy of 3S Implant S****. As you may see, it seems very accurate but if you look at the right side color bar, the range of green color is -0.25 to +0.25. It means that it can have the maximum 0.5mm gap between each STL file.But We set the range of the green zone from 0 to 0.25 only. so our standard is 50% more tight.

Windowing value default setting and auto-windowing

Recently, the number of clinic users is increased. Most of them use one CBCT, so it’s is a hassle work to do windowing every time. Now, the user can save the windowing value and it will be adopted automatically when the user begins the new project. If you use several CBCT, don't use this function. Sorry for R2 Center users too.

STLIZATION Area setting control

First of all, adjust the size of the blue square box to the arch size.

locate “the sagittal plane line”(Green) to the half of the central incisor not interproximal.

Click the “STLIZATION” button and activate it.

Move the mouse to the sagittal view and adjust the size, thickness, angle of STLIZATION area(Green box) using short keys. Check the left and right side of the 3D volume, If it covered all teeth(especially the posterior part)

Which color is teeth?

The purpose of STLIZATION is to convert the teeth part of CBCT to STL format in order to match it with the scan file. So, it is an important factor to choose reasonable teeth color for accurate matching results. But as I mentioned in the “Development team note”, it is difficult to identify the outline of teeth on the CBCT. Nonetheless, I would like to explain tips for choosing the color. Generally, users choose the yellow color because it covers all the anterior and posterior teeth[Picture 1]. But this can be a reason for more thick anterior teeth that included blur. If users choose the green color[Picture 2], it makes more precise anterior teeth. But it’s also the reason for insufficient molar teeth shape. Therefore it’s important to check each case and make the decision. We keep working on it to make the better process and will upgrade it continuously. Thank you for your patience and interest.

Advanced 3-points matching function

Before the update, the Matching process used 3D-coordination of marked 3 points.Now, the Matching process calculates the surface around 3 points marked on each STL.and makes more accurate the initial matching.

For accurate matching, mark points where the specific shape of teeth well present. “Windowing” and choosing a color for the “STLIZATION” is also an important factor for the accurate matching result.

Matching Fitness check

Click this button to present the gap between CBCT STL and Model scan STL file after 3-points matching. As we know that CBCT data have a maximum 200-micron inaccuracy, we set the green color range from 0 to 0.2mm.(3S company set the green color from 0 to 0.5mm)After STEP 2 (Manual matching), click this button again, it shows the changed gap.
