Alpine StablesFor more than 56 years, the Equestrian Program at Alpine Stables has been graduating young competitive riders with the best horse riding and leadership team giving them a distinguished presence in British Columbia. The Staff include Equestrian Canada certified coaches with successful competitive backgrounds as riders and trainers that can train a novice or an experienced rider. At our Vancouver Island based camps our focus is safe riding and horsemanship practices to riders with limited or no prior riding experience to highly competent riders. Weekly participation is 3 half days a week and students will learn to walk, trot, canter and prepare their horse for riding. Queen Margaret’s team also assists more experienced riders in developing their skills both in the saddle and in the stable. The student’s level of riding will be assessed by the highly trained team upon arrival. Horse riding and leadership programs are a wise choice to learn how to communicate more effectively and build new relationship skills. A huge boost of confidence happens when you learn to connect and interact with horses. Create a memory that will last a lifetime that you cannot get from a traditional summer camp, and its fun too!

Unaccompanied MinorsParents or guardians must inquire to individual airlines about age restrictions and guidelines for minors traveling alone. Please let the airline know that an unaccompanied minor will need supervision for their travel to and from Vancouver. The airline will arrange for an attendant to help the child through customs and with boarding. When arranging for this special service, the airline also needs to be informed that a Kingswood representative will be picking up the child from the Vancouver International Airport. An unaccompanied minor service fee will apply through the airline for both ways and should be paid for in advance of coming to camp.

Airport Pick UpAll unaccompanied minor chaperone airline fees are not included in our fees. An experienced representative will be waiting for your child at Arrivals at the Vancouver International Airport. They will be wearing a bright noticeable Kingswood official t-shirt and holding a large Kingswood Study Camp sign. Students will be escorted directly to the corresponding school of choice where they will check-in and meet their counsellor. A Kingswood representative will notify parents via email on the day their child arrived safely in Vancouver. Emails to receive the confirmation must be completed on the Flight Information Form provided upon registration.

ValuablesStudents are advised not to bring unnecessary valuables to the program. A safe is available for students to keep valuables for a nominal weekly fee and they will have access in the evening on specific days and at set times. Students are advised and reminded to lock their dorm door at all times. Kingswood Study Camps denies responsibility for lost or stolen items during the students’ participation in the program.

Travel DocumentsUpon arrival, all students are required to submit their return ticket and passport to Kingswood office management staff, or to their accompanying chaperone if at homestay. If these documents are not submitted to Kingswood upon arrival, the loss or misplacement of these documents will be the student’s and parent’s responsibility to replace.

Pocket Money On average about $75-$100 CAD per week should be sufficient for spending money. Additional cash for emergencies should also be brought. We recommend that students bring most of their funds in the form of insured traveler’s cheques, with only a small amount of cash. Withdrawal of money can be made from the Kingswood safe at designated times.

Safety and SecurityOnly authorized personnel and students are given keys to the dormitories. Students are assigned Counsellors who stay in the same dormitory area as their students. KSC management is on duty in the evenings and on weekends in the event of an emergency and to assist with other issues. Security Guards patrol the campus grounds at night. Safety first!

12Parent and Student Information Page

CommunicationParents can call our office or email to leave a message for their child. A secondary option is to call the participating school office to leave a message. Staff will deliver the message to the student during a break period in the program. Cell phones will be allowed for selected times in the evening on “down time”. Pre paid phone cards are sold by KSC for $10 for public pay-phone located on campus. Counselors will help their students call home during free time, primarily in the evenings after returning from their outing. Remember no phone calls from us means that everything is all right.

Canadian Relatives and VisitationParents or guardians need to fill out the Parental Consent Form to authorize friends or relatives who would like to visit and take students off-campus for personal outings. Advance notice must be provided of a student leaving. Students need to check-out/in at with the Kingswood counsellor and management.

Illness, Injury and SicknessKSC arranges medical insurance coverage for all students for the duration of their program. In the case of sickness, accident, injury or emergency, our staff will accompany the student to receive immediate 24 hour medical attention. There is a hospital nearby all program locations. A medical incident report will be filed and parents will be notified.

Provisions and AmenitiesKSC will provide students with bedding for their dormitory room that will be cleaned regularly. All students are expected to bring their own towels and toiletries for the program that should be labeled with their name. In the event that an item is lost or forgotten, Counselors can help students purchase such an item on one of their off-campus outings. A list of clothing and other toiletries will be given to parents after registration.

Food and ProvisionsStudents are provided three fresh meals mainly from the participating school’s cafeteria and an evening snack every day. Packed lunches or dinners will be provided on some outings. There are also BBQs and special dinners provided as part of the program itineraries. If students wish to purchase snacks outside of meals times, there are stores, restaurants and vending machines near each program residence location. Students are not permitted to visit these locations without the supervision of their Counselor.

Cell Phones, Tablets and LaptopsStudents will have designated set times outside of the classroom for media and telecommunication usage/calls/play. No inappropriate sites or gaming allowed. iCloud location privacy must be switched on at all times.

• Even when wearing a mask, staff and students will still be required to maintain physical distance from people outside of their learning group

COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines

Practicing Physical DistancingReducing the number of close, in-person interactions helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 and any other infectious diseases.• Keep a safe distance from others. The British Columbia

14

Practicing Hand Hygiene• Rigorous hand washing is the most effective

way to reduce the spread of illness. New and multiple cleaning stations will be located around camp with reminders from staff

• Wash hands with plain soap and water for at least 20 seconds

• You don’t need antibacterial soap for COVID-19

• The temperature of the water doesn’t matter, though most find warm water to be the most comfortable

• Have regular opportunities for staff and students to practice hand hygiene

• Help younger students with hand hygiene as needed

• If there isn’t a sink (like when students and staff are outdoors), use portable hand-washing sites or alcohol-based hand rub with at least 70% alcohol

• If hands are visibly dirty, soap and water are best. If they’re not available, use an alcohol-based hand wipe followed by alcohol-based hand rub with at least 60% alcohol

• Encourage campers and staff to practice respiratory etiquette:

• Cough or sneeze into elbow sleeve

• Dispose tissues in garbage cans

• Wash hands with plain soap and water for at least 20-30 seconds or use an alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content
