THE GOLD COAST FUNDRAISING BALL • 2021 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL • 3

On behalf of the Event Partners and myself we are looking forward in welcoming you to our retake of the 20th Anniversary Fundraising Ball. 2021 will now host the 20th year of the formally known Bruce Lynton Charity Ball that has been running on the Gold Coast and itremains to be one of the most highly anticipated eventson the social calendar.

Over the years, we have helped to raise over $2.2 million for local charities. We are extremely grateful for the incredible support we continuously receive from both local andinterstate businesses through generous donations year on year. Without the supportof our business partners, none of this could be made possible.

The event is now organised and funded by 7 local businesses. These family owned businesses are giving back to the community through this event and without their support the ball wouldn’t have continued when our family sold its main businesses in 2018. From these event partners we’ve created a committee to drive the event and continue it raising of funds for the charities.

The Gold Coast Fundraising Ball will be held on Saturday 5th June 2021 at RACV Royal Pines Resort. Also gaining in popularity the Fundraising Golf Day, which has filled to capacity in previous years with local business owners and executives. The day includes 18 holes of golf, a light lunch, evening canapés and an array of fantastic prizes. The Gold Coast Fundraising Golf Day will be held on Friday 4th June 2021, also taking place at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

Thank you for your time in considering this sponsorship proposal and we hope to have the pleasure of working closely with you to make the 2021 Gold Coast Fundraising Ball even more enjoyable and successful than the last. If we work together, we can make a difference!

Yours sincerely,

Beric Lynton

GUIDE DOGS QUEENSLAND

Every hour of every day, an Australian learns they will lose their sight. Nine of these people will eventually go blind. By 2020, more than 350,000 people will be blind or vision impaired, which is enough to fill Suncorp Stadium nearly seven times. That’s a lot of people that will need help.

Life with a vision impairment can be a very isolating experience, cutting people off from society and leading to depression and loneliness. At times it can feel as though no one understands you and that some of the freedoms of life are simply out of reach.

For most Queenslanders, freedom means having the right to think, speak and act as they want. Some people feel free when they go to the beach, when they go out for a run, or when they can go wherever they like, whenever they like, simply on impulse.

For a blind or vision impaired person, freedom often means just being able to live a “normal life”. This is where the right support and training really counts to make the challenges of a world without sight, possible.

Guide Dogs Queensland helps empower blind or vision impaired Queenslanders of all ages to live full and independent lives. Every year we help thousands of people with low or no vision regain and retain their mobility, independence and confidence

– which can be as simple as the ability to get out of their front door and go wherever they want to, confidently and safely. While Guide Dogs are the furry faces of our organisation, they are just one small part of what we do and how we can help.

We are passionate about finding the best mobility solutions that match a person’s needs and exceed their expectations. We carefully assess each and every person who needs our help to ensure we find the best services and support programs to suit their needs and lifestyle.

We offer a wide range of free Orientation and Mobility services, including: • Guide Dog mobility • White Cane training• Electronic Travel Aid training• Community and professional education workshops• Counselling by our own staff psychologists• Low vision support groups and peer mentoring, and• Special mobility programs for children and

young people

Our Orientation and Mobility training helps people with low or no vision develop the knowledge, skills and strategies they need to safely move through different environments and feel confident while doing so.

This support is available to all Queenslanders, regardless of their location. We offer the help people require whether they have low or no vision themselves, or have a blind or vision impaired family member who needs assistance.

All of our services are provided free-of-charge thanks to the generosity of the community. Without ongoing community support, we simply couldn’t continue delivering to those who need our support and services the most.

Freedom is something we should all enjoy – help us help others find theirs.

GOLD COASTCOMMUNITY FUND

The Gold Coast Community Fund is the Gold Coast’s lead charity supporting individuals, families and organisations in time of great need.

An incorporated body, it was established in early 2000 by a dedicated group of leading city business figures.

Celebrating 21 years of Gold Coasters helping Gold Coasters this year, the fund was proudly the official charity for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Fund which receives no government funding, seeks to raise money through regular initiatives and donations, creating a central pool for distribution to charities, community organisations and individuals in emergency need. The Gold Coast Community Fund offers a more systematic approach to fundraising and the perfect fundraising solution for not-for-profit organisations large and small.

The primary aims to relieve financial hardship which is determined on a case by case assessment of a beneficiary’s or charities genuine financial need by our volunteer assessors. Relief of financial hardship may include assistance for people who are suffering from the effects of homelessness, sickness or from a disability, where, in each case, there is also financial need.

Sickness comes within this category because sickness is often related to poverty or the inability for an individual to pay for treatment. Assistance by the Gold Coast Community Fund is only provided to those who reside or are located within the Statistical Area only of the Gold Coast as determined by Queensland Government Statisticians.

More information about Gold Coast Community Fund is available at www.gccommunityfund.org

YOUNGCARE

Our MissionYoungcare is a not-for-profit organisation spearheading powerful and positive change to help more young people with high care needs, live the lives we all deserve. There are simply too many young people in Australia being left behind, living in inappropriate and unacceptable housing. It is an issue that spans the corners of the country, yet it’s so close to home.

For 16 years, we have been fighting to make a difference to the lives of young people with high care needs and the loved ones who care for them. Our fight continues.

It is with a renewed energy that we are leading much-needed change in the disability housing sector. With the insight and experience of the people we help firmly steering us, we are rallying change makers across the country — industry, government and community — to shape a national solution. With your support, we will make an impact.

Now is the time. The introduction of the NDIS has changed the country’s disability landscape. Young people with high care needs have more control over their own care than ever before, unlocking an opportunity to live fulfilling lives that are truly their own.

We are at the edge of embracing freedom. The freedom of choice. Young people with high care needs deserve this freedom. To choose where they live. To choose who they live with. To choose how they live their lives. It’s a freedom we all deserve, which is why it’s up to all of us to make sure it happens.

Support ProgramsYoungcare’s grants programs have delivered over $8.4 million for 1,213 young people with high care needs to fund essential equipment, home modifications and respite services to enable young people to remain living at home with loved ones, or make the transition out of inappropriate housing.

Youngcare ConnectA free national support line that provides information to young people with high care needs, their families and carers, when the disability, housing and health care systems feel like a maze.

Housing SolutionsSuitable and appropriate supported housing is one of the greatest areas of unmet need for people with disabilities in Australia.

Over the past 15 years Youngcare has led the disability sector in designing the first age appropriate homes for young people with high care needs.

With the introduction of the NDIS we believe this is a watershed moment for the disability sector and Youngcare will work in partnership with industry, government and the community, to solve this residential crisis once and for all.

In the past, Youngcare has established legacy stock at Coomera, Sinnamon Park, Albany Creek and Wooloowin. In the last year, we were proud to bring an additional 8 young people home to housing solutions in Wooloowin and Townsville, which will soon be joined by properties at North Lakes, Rothwell, Chermside and Jordan Springs in NSW. This is only the beginning, with a pipeline of developments continuing to roll out across the country, brining young people with high care needs home once and for all.

MEN OF BUSINESS (MOB)

Men of Business Academy (MOB) is a registered charity that focuses on empowering young men with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be happy, healthy, and successful in life after school. For 10 years MOB have supported, mentored and delivered many 8-programs to most high schools on the Gold Coast. Whilst these programs have been incredibly successful and touched the lives of thousands of boys, the unpredictability of funding and sponsorship has meant that all too often the demand for places exceeds the capacity of the Men of Business and its band of mentors. The MOB Academy was created in April 2020 as a solution to this problem in hopes of improving the lives of as many boys as possible.

The MOB Academy caters for boys in Years 11 & 12 who are looking for alternative learning from mainstream schooling. We promote workforce and career focused education in addition to a formalised health and well-being program. We emphasis the development of the key life skills of literacy, numeracy, health, resilience, commitment, and respect. Importantly, our students receive extensive specialised and individualised support to address any barriers to learning and personal development that may hinder their success.

A key strength of the MOB Academy is the existing deep engagement with the community mentors and the business community who have inspired the vision for a school. The deliberate integration of the young men with their community are witnessed through work placement opportunities and volunteering at local events providing a complete experience for the young men and their families.

We have designed our school to target individual student needs and interests whilst building student resilience and confidence through a wide range of education programs. This includes optimising the training facilities both on-campus and the neighbouring TAFE College. Currently, we have 110 students enrolled with plans to further develop existing community partnerships to provide the students with extensive extra-curricular activities and meaningful job opportunities on our journey to building better men.

PERRY CROSS SPINAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION

No one wants to experience life with paralysis. There are approximately 24,000 recorded cases of spinal cord injury in Australia, and each year there are 300 - 400 new incidents reported. Quadriplegia, paralysis of all four limbs, occurs in 50% of all these cases.

There is no known cure for a spinal cord injury. The impacts of spinal cord injury are usually lifelong and devastating. Young men in the prime of their life are most likely to sustain a spinal cord injury, being four times more likely to sustain spinal cord injuries than women.

Perry Cross is one such person whose life was unforeseeably and profoundly changed in an instant. In 1994, a devastating rugby union accident on the grounds of Ballymore in

Queensland rendered Perry a C2 quadriplegic, unable to move from the neck down and unable to breathe without a mechanical ventilator attached to his electric wheelchair.

In spite of his injury, over the following two decades Perry has lived an extraordinary life, most notably in establishing the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation (PCSRF). PCSRF has one clear vision: to find a cure for paralysis. The discovery of a cure is something that Perry Cross firmly believes will happen. It’s just a matter of when.

PCSRF is currently funding the “Spinal Injury Project” at the Menzies Institute at Griffith University, with plans to undertake a human clinical trial to progress the journey towards a cure for paralysis.

For more information about PCSRF please visit our website at www.pcsrf.org.au or contact us at [email protected]
