Hughes became the eighth American all-time to be taken first overall and the fifth player from USA Hockey's National Team Development Program to be selected with the first pick. For the first time in NHL Draft history, seven of the first 15 selections were American while eight American selections came directly from the NTDP, doubling the NHL Draft record of players to be taken from a single team in the opening round. Scott Gomez, a native of Anchorage, Alaska who captured two Stanley Cups (2000, 2003), is serving as an honorary head coach for the 2020 BioSteel All-American Game.

DraftedbytheDevilsinthefirstround(27thoverall)of the 1998 NHL Draft, Gomez skated 16 seasons in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils (1999-2007, 2014-15), New York Rangers (2007-09), Montreal Canadiens (2009-12), San Jose Sharks (2012-13), Florida Panthers (2013-14), St. Louis Blues (2015-16) and Ottawa Senators (2015-16). During his tenure,

Gomez racked up 756 career points (181-575) in 1,079NHLappearances.Aveteranplayoffcontender,Gomez tallied 29 goals and 72 assists for 101 points in 149 playoff appearances. Following his playingcareer, Gomez spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders (2017-19).

Along with playing for the 2006 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, Gomez also represented the U.S. on the international stage in two IIHF World Junior Championships (1998, 1999), and played for Team USA in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.

Mike Knuble, a native of Kentwood, Mich., enjoyed a 16-year NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings (1996-98), New York Rangers (1998-2000), Boston Bruins (2000-04), Philadelphia Flyers (2005-09, 2012-13) and Washington Capitals (2009-12).

Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round (76th overall) of the 1991 NHL Draft, Knuble helped thefranchisetoaStanleyCuptitle in1998,hisfirstfull season in the league.

In his 16-year stint in the NHL, Knuble registered 548 career points (278-270) in 1,068 NHL appearances.

Knubleskatedin10StanleyCupPlayoffs,registering14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 65 career playoffgames.

Knuble currently serves as an assistant coach with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL affiliate of theDetroit Red Wings.

In addition to being a member of Team USA in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, Knuble also played in four IIHF Men's World Chamionships (1995, 1999, 2001, 2005).

Forty players competing in tonight's game are committed to NCAAprograms.HarvardUniversity(ECAC)leadsthefieldwithfive commitments, followedby theUniversity ofMichigan (BigTen), Boston University (HEA) and the University of Notre Dame (Big Ten) that each have three.

As the top junior league in the United States, the USHL prepares players for NCAA Division I hockey as well as careers in the NHL. The 55 players with ties to the USHL drafted in the 2019 NHL Draft marked the second-highest total for the USHL after 57 players with league ties were selected in 2018. The 55 USHL selections came from 14 of the 16 USHL teams and at least one player was selected by 24 of 31 total NHL teams. Of the 55 selections, 17 came from member-club USA Hockey National Team Development Program, who also had 17 of the USHL's 57 picks in 2018.

Twenty-fiveplayersheretonighthaveplayedorcurrentlyplayforUSA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Mich. Founded in 1996, the NTDP is composed of two squads, the U.S. National Under-18 Team and Under-17 teams.

The Under-17 Team competes in the United States Hockey League and also participates in three international events annually. The U.S. National Under-18 Team’s schedule includes games against NCAA Division I & III opponents, contests versus USHL teams, as well as competition in three international tournaments.

Seventeen players playing tonight have represented the U.S. internationally, including two who have played at an IIHF event.

ALUMNI CAPTURE 2018-19 TITLES

Collectively, alumni of this event have gone on to capture four NCAA championships, three AHL Calder Cups, one Stanley Cup and13medals(fivegold,threesilver,fivebronze)inIIHFplay.

This past season, Mikey Anderson (2016 AAPG) and Riley Tufte (2015 AAPG) were instrumental in helping the University of Minnesota Duluth winning the NCAA national championship for a second-consecutive season while Alex Nedeljkovic won the AHL Calder Cup with the Charlotte Checkers.

In IIHF play, a total of 43 alumni helped the U.S. competed with Team USA at the IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship, IIHF World Junior Championship and IIHF Men's World Championship (bronze).

U.S. captain Mikey Anderson (2016 AAPG) and 16 other alumni helped the U.S. earn silver at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver, while another 16 alumni contributed to the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team's bronze medal effort back inApril. In total, Cole Caufield (2018 AAPG), Jack Hughes (2018 AAPG) and Cam York (2018 AAPG) broke a total of 11 records at the tournament. Five all-time U.S. records, three single-tournament U.S. records and three all-time tournament records werebrokenbythetrioofCaufield,HughesandYork.

Forward Jack Hughes (2018 AAPG) skated for Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Championship, IIHF Under18 Men's world CHampionship and the IIHF Men's World Championship, following in his brother Quinn's footsteps as a draft-eligible player to represent the U.S. in the IIHF Men's World Championship.

Mark Howe and John LeClair, both members of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and former Philadelphia Flyers, served as head coaches. A total of 10 goals were scored as Team LeClair topped Team Howe, 6-4. Twenty-four players that competed in the game went on to be selected in the 2017 NHL Draft. Four players have made their NHL debuts.

Derek Plante and Jeremy Roenick served as head coaches for the fourth annual game. The 10 combined goals set a then-AAPG record for most goals in a single game. The game included a record 10 AAPG players who would go on to be selected in the firstroundofthe2016NHLDraft,includingforwardsMatthew Tkachuk and Clayton Keller as the sixth and seventh overall selections. Fifteen 2015 players have made theirNHLdebuts,includingKellerwhowasaCalderMemorialtrophyfinalistin2018.

Led by coaches Mike Grier and Ed Olczyk, the third CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game had Team Grier defeating Team Olczyk, 6-3. Alumni from the game include 2018 NHL All-Star Game MVP Brock Boeser, 2017 Calder Memorial Trophy finalistZach Werenski, and 2015 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner Jack Eichel. In total, 12 players who participated in 2014 have made their NHL debuts to date.

Mark Johnson and Joe Mullen served as head coaches in the second-ever AAPG. Held at CONSOL Energy Center, Team Johnson bested Team Mullen, 5-2. Forward Dylan Larkin opened thescoringandwenton tobe thefirstAmericanselectedatthe 2014 NHL Draft when he was selected 15th overall by his hometown Detroit Red Wings. To date, 15 players from the game have made their NHL debuts.

In the inaugural USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game, Rob McClanahan led his team to victory over Phil Housley by a 5-2 count. Headlining the class were defensemen Seth Jones, who went on to be selected fourth overall by the Nashville Predators at the 2013 NHL Draft, and Will Butcher, the 2017 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner. To date, 15 players have made their NHL debuts.

2019 U.S. JUNIOR SELECT TEAM

TheU.S.JuniorSelectTeamfinishedthirdinthe2019WorldJunior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Theteam was comprised of players competing in the United StatesHockey League, the lone Tier I junior league in the U.S. Anthony Noreen (Kearney, Neb.), head coach and generalmanager of the Tri-City Storm, served as head coach withassistant coaches Mark Abalan (Sioux City, Iowa), ShaneFukishima (Waterloo, Iowa) and David Wilkie (Omaha, Neb.). TheU.S.hasfinishedfirstinsixofthelasttentournaments(2010, 2012-14, 2016, 2018) and has occupied a top-three spotat the World Junior A Challenge every year since joining thetournament in 2007. Nine players from the 2019 World Junior A Challenge roster are participating in tonight's BioSteel All-American Game, including Brendan Brisson, Sam Colangelo, Sean Farrell, Gunnarwolfe Fontaine, Alex Laferriere, Mitchell Miller, Luke Reid, Ryder Rolston and Logan Stein.

USA HOCKEY ARENA

USA Hockey Arena is a two-sheet facility with regulation ice (85x200) in the main arena and Olympic-size ice (100x200) for the secondary sheet. Acquired by the USA Hockey Foundation on April 1, 2015, the facility has added 20,000 square feet to the property that includes a 9,800-square-foot workout facility, additionalofficesandaconferencecenter.Intotal,thefacilityencompasses 170,000 square feet with the main rink providing 3,504 seats for hockey games and 4,500 seats for other performances and events. Accompanying the facility is the USA Hockey Summer Drive-In, which has three large screens that show first-run double-features seven nights a week, aswell as CJ’s Brewing Company.

2019 U.S. HOCKEY HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY

Five American hockey legends including Gary Bettman, Brian Gionta, Neal Henderson, Tim Thomas and Krissy Wendell were formally enshrined into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame on Dec. 12 during a sold-out induction ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Washington D.C. In addition to the induction of the Class of 2019, Jack Blatherwick was awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy, presented for outstanding service to hockey in the United States. Alex Ovechkin was awarded the Wayne Gretzky International Award, which pays tribute to the growth of hockey in the U.S.

USA HOCKEY NATIONAL TEAM HAPPENINGS

USA HOCKEY'S AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT MODEL TURNS TEN

USA Hockey celebrates its 10th year of the American Development Model this season. The ADM is USA Hockey’s nationwide player-development program for youth hockey associations. It's based on age-appropriate, age-specificcompetition and training for boys and girls, beginning with their first steps onto the ice and carrying them through age18 and beyond. ADM places a heightened emphasis on skill development and long-term athlete development principles, providing a blueprint for the best possible youth hockey experience.

U.S. INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS

Since 2010, no other nation has claimed more medals inOlympic, Paralympic and International Ice Hockey Federationplay than the 49 by the United States. Additionally, Team USA's29 collective gold medals also leads all nations. In total, the lastnine years has seen the U.S. claim 29 gold medals, 14 silvermedals and seven bronze medals.The 29 gold medals span seven events, including the OlympicWinter Games (2018 - Women), Paralympic Winter Games(2010, 2014, 2018), IIHF Women's World Championship (2011,2013, 2015-17, 2019), IIHF World Junior Championship (2010,2013, 2017), IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship (2010-15, 2017), IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship (2011,2015-18, 2020) and IPC Para Hockey World Championship (2012, 2015, 2019).

2020 U.S. UNDER-18 WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM

The U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team went 3-1-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) to claim a fifth goldmedal in the last sixyears and to extend its unprecedented medal streak in tournament play to 13-straight IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championships. Maura Crowell(Mansfield,Mass.),headwomen'sicehockeycoach at the University of Minnesota Duluth, served as head coach of Team USA. She was joined by assistant coaches Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.), member of the gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team, and Josh Sciba (Westland, Mich.), head women's ice hockey coach at Union College.

2020 HOCKEY WEEK ACROSS AMERICA

USA Hockey's yearly nationwide initiative Hockey Week Across America, now in its 13th year, will take place from Feb. 16-23, 2020. The festivities begin on Feb. 16 with NBC Sports Hockey Day in America. The daily themes will include salutes toplayers(Feb.17),coaches(Feb.18),officials(Feb.19)andlocal rinks (Feb. 20) followed by the traditional themed days of Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey Day (Feb. 21), Try Hockey Day (Feb. 22) and Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes (Feb. 23).
