All alpacas must be registered with the Australian Alpaca Association Ltd. and carry an approved brass tag showing the alpaca’s IAR number. Wethers must also be registered with the AAA as per Showing Rules. Any alpacas not registered to the exhibitor by closing date for entries will be disqualified and will not appear in the catalogue. NOTE: If there is no IAR tag present in the ear of an animal exhibit, official AAA confirmation must be provided by the owner to the Chief Steward that the ear tag has been recently lost and that a new tag has been ordered and paid for. Replacement tag orders and payments must be lodged with the National Office, a minimum of one week before the date of the show. Failure to present such advice at inspection will result in disqualification of the animal. No animal shall be eligible for exhibition if it is not entire (except for wethers). All genitalia shall be complete, properly formed and proportioned for normal reproduction. No wether may have any visible genetic faults or physical disfigurement. The Convenor shall appoint a person, or persons, as a qualified inspector, or inspectors, who shall inspect all alpacas for genetic faults, colour class and IAR number and visible physical disfigurement. Any animal which, in the opinion of the Chief Steward and/or veterinary surgeon, is not in a fit state to be exhibited may be rejected by them and debarred from competing in the class or classes for which it has been entered. Any decision or determination of disqualification is entirely within the discretion of the Chief Steward. The Inspector or Chief Steward will classify all entries for age, sex and colour and has the power to transfer an exhibit to the class which, in his/her opinion, it should have been entered. The Chief Steward will combine or split classes as he/she sees fit. The use of hormones and/or tranquillisers is prohibited. Any Exhibitor violating this Regulation will be dealt with by the Council. Halter class entry must have a minimum fleece length of 50 millimetres and a maximum fleece age for Huacaya of under 14 months, for Suri in a first fleece of under 18 months, and for Suri in a second or subsequent fleece of under 14 months Any alpaca found to have lice or mite infestation must be removed from the showgrounds immediately along with any other alpacas present that belong to the same exhibitor.

Page 7: 2020 ALPACA SCHEDULE - Clevvi...Period of Exhibition Alpacas must be penned by 7.00am Saturday 28th March 2020 and may not be removed from the Showgrounds until after 5.00pm, or at

Female Mature Class: To be eligible for entry into a Mature Class (48 months and over) a female alpaca must have produced a cria registered or recorded on the IAR. This applies to mature age Suri alpacas entered in the 30 months and over class also. Exhibitors’ Meeting - Chief Steward The Chief Steward requires all exhibitors to attend a meeting to be held in the judging ring before judging commences for advice on show procedures. Judging A competitor may not discuss with the Judge their alpacas or proposed exhibits prior to, or during the Show judging. The Judge’s decision shall be final. He/she may choose not to award a prize or prizes in a class. In the event of the Judge deciding that exhibits in any Class or Championship are not worthy of the prize, no prize or ribbon shall be awarded. Each exhibitor will be allocated a Catalogue Number as published in the CATALOGUE. All exhibitors will be supplied with exhibit numbers cards with a catalogue number corresponding with their entries. Exhibitors should ensure exhibit numbers are clearly displayed on their left arm by the use of a black armband while in the judging ring. The age of the animal and age of the animal’s fleece will be printed on the corners of the exhibit number for easy reference by the judge. Black armbands will be available for purchase at the official desk prior to the start of judging. All first place winners in each class are eligible to compete for Age Championships. After selecting the Champion, the Judge will be required to select an animal for Reserve. The Reserve Champion shall be selected from the remaining first prize animals together with the second prize winner of the class which furnished the Champion. The Judge’s decision shall be final. He/she may choose not to award a prize or prizes in a class, or may choose not to award champion prizes at his/her discretion. All Championship winners will be eligible to compete for the Supreme Exhibit of the show, in either Suri or Huacaya. Splitting of classes: All classes over 20 animals are to be split evenly from youngest to oldest. Best of Colour: Best of Colour Classes will be run at the 2020 Heritage Toowoomba Royal Show. All first place winners in each class are eligible to compete in their colour groups for Best in Colour Awards. The Supreme exhibits (suri and huacaya) from the age competition will be considered the Best in Colour for the colour they competed in, so other first place getters from that colour will not be required to re-enter the ring. Correct Animal Colour Classification: An alpaca is to be shown in the appropriate colour class, when it is predominantly that colour. Any colour variations will be assessed at time of inspection. The chief steward may move animals into a different colour class upon inspection of exhibit. Exhibits shall not have fleece of a different colour to that of the blanket removed from an animal to a level below that of the blanket fleece. Guides to colour classifications:

White: constitutes a pristine, bright white fleece. [NB: white animals with light fawn on the neck or backline should be entered in the light fawn class].

Light fawn: alpacas with a cream or off white fleece or that have light fawn on the neck or backline.

Fancy: an alpaca is to be shown in a fancy class if it has an unusual or striking distribution of colour e.g. two or more different coloured saddle markings. [NB: An alpaca with a solid saddle of one colour and different colour markings on the head, chest or legs does not constitute a fancy alpaca].

Dam’s Progeny Class: Dams Progeny Class - comprises two progeny from the same dam. A Dam’s Progeny entry may be a pair of females, males, or female and male (not wethers). The progeny need not be owned or bred by the one exhibitor, but must be the progeny of the same dam. Alpacas entered for the Dam’s Progeny class must have been entered as animal exhibits in the same show as that in which they are to be exhibited as Dam’s Progeny. Entries may be lodged on the day of the show. Exhibitors will be advised over the P.A. system when dams progeny entries are closing. Only one entry fee is required per progeny group. All handlers showing animals must be competent in the handling of their exhibit, or removal from the ring may be requested by the Judge. Advertising: Promotional material is permitted within the bounds of the standard pen height for that show. Each Exhibitor may display one stud sign not exceeding 75cm x 75cm per pen, but shall remove any such sign forthwith if directed to do so by the Convenor or Chief Steward who shall have full power to give such direction without giving any reason whatsoever. For sale signs are not permitted. Display/promotional alpacas are not permitted. Ribbons won at any other previous show are not permitted. A handler shall be deemed to be incorrectly attired if his/her dress or the animal being led displays any information capable of being construed as advertising for any stud.

Page 9: 2020 ALPACA SCHEDULE - Clevvi...Period of Exhibition Alpacas must be penned by 7.00am Saturday 28th March 2020 and may not be removed from the Showgrounds until after 5.00pm, or at

It is recommended that fleeces be placed in bags, made of satin or similar material, or heavy duty plastic. Plastic garbage bags should be avoided. Exhibitors, when submitting fleeces at the Show, must attach to the fleece the fleece identification tags as found in this schedule. Fleeces will be displayed with no names until after the judging has been completed. Unless fleeces are collected from the show, stamped return addressed postage should be supplied. Fleeces not collected on the day or without return freight will be disposed of. Coloured fleeces: If insufficient coloured fleeces are entered, the chief steward reserves the right to merge fleece classes with the nearest colour class to be judged. Junior Judging Competition: The Junior judging competition will take place under show conditions and will be split into two age group:

under 15 yrs, and 15 to under 25 yrs.

One class of either four animals or four fleeces is judged by competitors. The animals or fleeces may be either suri or huacaya. In each age group, there are two sections: visual and oral. Visual judging takes place first. Competitors are allowed ten minutes to judge the four animals or fleeces and to complete their placing card. In the visual class, competitors are scored on handling, general competence, ringcraft, presentation and dress. The number of competitors required to present oral judgements is left to the discretion of the Chief Steward. Where the number of competitors is large, it may be appropriate to limit the number of competitors that progress to the oral section.
