Our cover art is by Paul Grout of Bellingham, Washington, and is part of a series of owl paintings he has been working on. Paul is my friend of many years and the Director of A Place Apart, an emerging community, https://apartvermont.org, and the author of Encounter A Place Apart. Paul passionately explores the edge of what connects us and what captivates us, what affirms our depth of freedom and where
we remain caught in unfreedom. A print of this image hangs on my bedroom wall. I awake every morning in its gaze though I never see it in the morning because I always rise in the dark. But, it is an owl, and so it sees from the heart of the deep-down dark and so symbolically it all works. I’m held every morning by what I can’t see. What connects us most deeply in our lives remains hidden. What matters most is not the grasp of our understanding but that we come alive to how deeply we are seen and loved and how completely we are joined to everything and everyone. The dome of the owl’s head and the arc of the moon are one; the pattern on the owl’s feathers and the pattern in the night sky reveal the pattern of connection. The gaze of the owl and the gaze of God become the same gazing. Meister Eckhart, b 1260, had it right when he suddenly realized: The eye in which I see God is the same eye in which God sees me. My eye and God’s eye are one eye and one seeing, one knowing and one loving.
May this year be indeed a year full of one seeing, one knowing and one loving. - Glenn Mitchell, Co-Director
Oasis is experiencing a new depth of connection with other organizations in this season. Along with our relationship with Princeton Theological Seminary, our partnership with The Urban Well in Lancaster, and The House Next Door in Princeton Junction, NJ, we are also partnering with The Samaritan Center in Lancaster. With the Samaritan Center, we are offering a joint retreat day for clergy in March of 2021. Together, we are exploring ways in which we can connect and serve each other and our communities. A theme that has been resounding with us is the illusion of our separateness, and the constant invitation to realize the interconnectivity of all things. We are so blessed by all these partnerships and the understanding that in unison and connection we can reach more people with the contemplative message of hope, love, and peace. We continue to be aware and notice the gentle flow of Spirit and the many invitations to new birth and new risings that are placed on the Oasis path, that we might change the world one person at a time through loving presence. - Rachel Lindemuth, Co-Director

The Contemplative Way: A Year-Long Program in Personal Deepening is a brand new offering presented in partnership with The Urban Well, located on the Saint James Episcopal Church campus in downtown Lancaster. Both Rachel and I are all in for this fresh offering along with Oasis grad and Board member, Mary Jane Kistler. It promises to be a whole new path of pairing Oasis-style community with the depths of a contemplative journey.
Oasis has always been passionate about contemplation. We teach spiritual direction from the well of contemplation, and we have offered a number of programs over the years that focus on contemplation apart from spiritual direction training. This coming year we offer two new programs in contemplation, both open to newcomers and returning Oasis graduates:
Walk in the World: Creating A Rhythm of Life through Spiritual Practice, led by B.J. Katen-Narvell and Dale Selover, is a new experiential program in contemplative practices. Walk in the World is offered with The House Next Door in Princeton Junction, NJ, and brings a rhythm of engaging prayer practices and community spread over 8 monthly meeting days.
And as we do every year, if what you are looking for is a path to take your gift of listening and being a companion to others to a whole new level, we offer Spiritual Direction for Spiritual Guides, now training in Bethlehem, PA, with distance learning options also available.

There comes a time on the spiritual journey when we recognize that contemplation is more about how we live than how we pray. We long for a life anchored in Spirit. The Contemplative Way accompanies the seeker in this
exploration and tailors prayer, presence, community, and learning to a conscious and centered life.

Why do people come? For some, it is straight forward--they are looking for training in spiritual direction or contemplation. But for others it is far from straight forward. They feel a draw toward a deeper walk with God and are really looking to find a community where that desire resonates on the faces of others. Some want to take their prayer to new levels of communion. Some come wanting to balance seminary academics with immersion into the mystery of God. Some have walked away from church without walking from Spirit and seek to grow and integrate their spiritual life in new ways and
learn from other seekers on the path.
What draws you? Know from Oasis, if you come we will meet you where you are and surround you with a loving, safe, and contemplative learning community. W
