  • E. P. UnnyE. P. Unny or Ekanath PadmanabhanUnny, is a political cartoonist inIndia. He is a science graduate, hasstudied physics at the University inthe Indian state of Kerala. He hailsfrom the Ekanath Family of Elapully,Palakkad.

    His first cartoon was published inShankar’s Weekly in 1973. He became a professionalcartoonist in 1977 withTheHindu. E. P. Unny has workedwith the Sunday Mail, The Economic Times and is nowthe Chief Political Cartoonist with The Indian ExpressGroup.

    He has drawn and written graphic novels in Malayalamand a travel book on Kerala—Spices and Souls: A doodler’sjourney through Kerala. He has been doing graphic shortsin Malayalam literary journals as early as the 1990s. Hehas also written Santa and the Scribes: The Making of FortKochi, which was published in 2014. Business as Usual isanother book which is a collection of his cartoons.

    E. P. Unny, visited our campus during the first week ofDecember 2019, stayed here for a week, interacted withour staffers and went on sketching the campus. Some ofthe sketches he created during his visit are presented inthis link: Sketches by Unny
