The Bush Church Aid Society has a heart for people living

in remote and regional Australia.

We are committed to going the distance to reach

Australia for Christ.

Under God, we do this by

• proclaiming Christ so that people may respond to Him;

• nurturing Christians in their faith and ministry;

• strengthening local Christian communities in their mission;

• providing services of Christian care and advocacy;

• developing an understanding of Christ’s mission and

• promoting active partnership throughout the church.

Our core commitments are

• relying on prayer for God’s help and the Holy Spirit’s guidance;

• trusting in the vision, authority and encouragement

of Scripture;

• working in humility, servanthood and fellowship with the church

in mission;

• developing interdependent relationships with Diocesan Bishops;

• providing pastoral care and professional development for staff and

• responsibly managing our resources.

The Bush Church Aid Society of Australia

We are Going the Distance by

• bringing the gospel of Christ to the outermost parts of

Australia – We are committed to sending messengers so that all

Australians, no matter where they live and work, are able to hear

the life-changing message of Christ.

• developing a new generation of culturally diverse Christian

leaders – We are committed to engaging young people,

discipling them in the faith and encouraging them in ministry so

they can lead others to Christ.

• supporting ministry by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

people – We are committed to working with our first peoples

so they can serve Christ in ways that are Biblically faithful and

culturally appropriate.

• planting and renewing sustainable churches –

We are committed to establishing vibrant and outward-looking

gatherings of Christ’s people.

• equipping local leaders for fruitful ministry –

We are committed to supporting Christians ‘on the ground’ so

they can be salt and light for Christ.

• providing care in Christ’s Name –

We are committed to serving hurting people in times of crisis and

through ongoing Christ-centred pastoral care.

Over the past couple of months, I have been pondering on what prayer is. How do you pray? What is the point of praying if God already has plans? Does God listen? These are just a few of the questions I found myself asking. It was around this time that I came across a passage from Philippians 4:6 – you may already know it – it says: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. As I read this verse I was challenged. I looked around at this broken world stained with mental illness, violence, grief, damaged relationships, drought, famine – the list goes on; how can we not be anxious amidst this decay?

Unfortunately, I do not have a complete answer for this, since full restoration and justice will only be possible when Jesus returns. However, that doesn’t mean there is no answer. As I dug deeper, I shifted my focus to the character of this God that Paul was talking about. I found that this is a God who wants a relationship with us, just as a parent longs for a relationship with their child. He is the only one big enough to take on my burdens, and your burdens, and the rest of the world’s burdens. Paul is saying that God is one who wants to hear everything you have to say – not just at church or before dinner but “in every situation”.

I decided to test this out – I started praying in every spare moment I had. Often, in these moments I felt anxious, stressed and sometimes depressed. But I would ask Him for peace, wisdom and contentment. I would ask Him to help me trust Him despite my fearful and stubborn heart. Although this was a hard prayer to pray, I saw God generously answer it by granting me peace and a firm trust in Him.

I share this story to encourage you. Sometimes it may seem like God’s not there, you may feel uncontrollably anxious or worried. But even in those moments, God wants to listen to you. So I implore you, in every situation, pray, for He is a faithful God who you can always trust – even in the deepest valley of life.

December At the end of BCA’s Centenary year, we praise God for His blessings and for sustaining the National Office team through a really big 2019. Our prayer this Christmas season is that God’s greatest gift, our Lord Jesus Christ, will be revealed to many.

January We praise God for the gentle pace of January. We pray for good rest and family time and as we begin the Society’s 101st year. We ask God for “Grace, Grit and Gumption” for the BCA family as they seek to Reach Australia for Christ in 2020.

February Our National Director and Senior Officers meet together this month. Please pray for safe travels for those who come from interstate and ask that God will impart wisdom and discernment over their conversations and decision making.

1 National Office

Profile The National Office reaches Australia for Christ by stewarding the resources God gives BCA, so they are used effectively and efficiently to sustain existing and emerging ministries. We do this alongside Regional Officers, honorary officers and a team of generous volunteers.

Nomads Coordinators

Give thanks for the many Nomads currently working in a number of locations supporting our Field Staff.

Please pray for God’s guidance as we continue looking to grow the number of active Nomads. Nomads are vital to provide the resources necessary as we expand the ministry to ‘SERVE THOSE WHO SERVE’.

Profile The Bush Church Aid Nomads scheme connects Christian travellers with Field Staff and the churches they serve, so they can take part in ministry on their travels. Nomads support the work of the gospel and experience what life is like in remote areas. BCA’s Field Staff and their church communities are very encouraged by the presence of Nomads and their willingness to lend a hand.

December Pray that the Lord would grant wisdom and inspiration to Rod and Hazel Williams who are looking after the parish in December and January. Give thanks for the close relationship the church has with Exmouth Christian Fellowship (ECF) the other evangelical church in town. Pray for the combined services at Christmas.

THE BCA PRAYERLord our God, help us to remember those who live in isolated and remote parts of our land. We ask you to strengthen and encourage all whose ministries are supported by The Bush Church Aid Society. Refresh them in times of discouragement and loneliness and call others to stand with them in the task of making Christ known. Grant that, through the ministry of the Word and Sacraments, through caring service and by support for young people, the message of your redeeming love may be proclaimed and accepted by the people of our land.

We ask these things through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
