Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) has been an integral part of Bahraini culture since its inception. Through the years, the company has diversified and sought to add value to the lives of its customers whilst creating a legacy of corporate social responsibility and providing a dynamic culture to its employees.

We are proud to continue this legacy and greatly appreciate our team members- whom we consider family- who have worked with us in making our vision a reality.

In this issue we introduce Arjun Rana, (Chief Operating Officer, Almoayyed Contracting Group) and Hussein Al Khayat (Branch Head, Nissan’s Manama Service Centre); whose stories inspire and provoke the readers to forge their own path of success. We also note numerous awards that our employees have garnered during the past months- it is a testament to our belief in providing the best company culture that will enable our workers to thrive and be the best they can be. In addition, it is with great pleasure that we note how our Charity missions were able to help society, specially for the recent devastating floods that affected the state of Kerala.

This quarter was filled with achievements, the shared glory of the success that comes after hard work, and the positive accolades received from within and outside our company. Tell us your role as the Chief Operating Officer at the Almoayyed Contracting Group?

I joined ACG in 2005 as GM of Almoayyed Interiors, thereafter the management entrusted me with role of COO in 2016. I am responsible for Almoayyed Interiors, Almoayyed Landscapes and Pools, Civil maintenance, Thyssenkrupp Lifts and now Designers Gallery. I also look into strategic projects and business developments.

Detail the growth of Almoayyed Interiors over a decade?

Almoayyed Interiors has grown from inception in 2005 to a leading fit out contractor in Bahrain. We are on the invite list for most consultants and clients. We have our own workshops and also deal with a lot of hotels, hospitality projects, retails and restaurants. We even have many repeat

clients and that is our differentiator. Our highly skilled team of Project Managers and technicians ensure we manage projects by delivering it on time like the one which we recently did for the Gulf Convention Centre.

What are the new initiatives adopted by the Group?

Recently Mr. Mohammed Almoayyed and Mrs. Hala Almoayyed told all the managers that there should be digitization

and we need to increase efficiency this way. So we have taken a lead on that by implementing certain processes within the group, especially in Almoayyed Interiors. We increase efficiency by collaborating with all the key people in the project from supervisor and project manager to assistant general managers, and me as well. In this way we achieve cross-functional efficiencies and re-align our processes to suit specific project needs. I feel the key to success is to do a review at the end of every project, and learn from it. We then sit as a team and immediately look into what did not go well and on the other hand applaud what went well.

What do you consider as the upcoming opportunities/challenges for the contracting industry?

Construction is always linked to the overall growth that is happening in the region. This year has been so far good and we are in the process of closing some major projects. There are opportunities in the government and private sector in renovation and refurbishment projects. But there is pressure on new project launches and competition is very tight. This is the nature of business and we need to deal with it by increasing efficiency, cutting costs and nurturing talent.

Can you share the recent achievements of the ACG group?

As a group we are very well known for for our ethical approach to contracting. We are continuously adding other lines into the business. Now, with building materials and YK furnishing joining us we are going to expand into building material sales. Almoayyed Interiors is doing major projects for Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, in addition to successful completion of Crowne Plaza FF&E supply and various high profile interior fitouts on the island. We have recently received the full landscape contract for the new Bahrain airport. This is a big achievement for us. Our contracting division is doing the Harbor Row project in Manama, Air conditioning division is doing MEP in Marassi Al Bahrain.

How do you abide to the chairman’s vision in your overall work?

Our chairman’s vision of providing value added services and services across all divisions is our guiding principle. We don’t take unnecessary risks or do aggressive pricing. Our workers and staff are employed as per the laws of Bahrain and we respect the labour laws. Our management takes worker welfare very seriously. We encourage Bahrainis to join us and we provide a conducive environment to train Bahrainis.

Customer Satisfaction: The Index for Work Quality

What are the most demanding tasks in your role as Branch Head at Nissan’s Manama Service Centre?

One of the most important tasks that I am keen to do in my job is to meet the needs of Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) and Nissan customers in a smooth and timely manner, with flexibility and without compromising the quality of work. The principle we look for is good customer service and we do not spare any effort in achieving that with the team.

How do you lead your team?Team leadership is a demanding task.

Individual differences between people make it imperative that I seek to understand the needs and opinions of every individual in my team. Being close to them by providing full support while assessing their performance in their duties can push them to love the work and being the best.

What are some of the challenges that you face as a Branch Head?

One of the challenges we face is the need to keep in pace with the high expectations of customers. The customers expect quick service with excellent quality, which includes the knowhow of using the latest technologies in car care and maintenance.

What are the most inspiring aspects about the work you do?

In my work, I get inspired by the smiles of satisfaction from the customer once we

complete the service of his/her vehicle, thereby maintaining the excellent reputation of YKA and the Nissan brand. In addition, I love the spirit of challenge that comes with the nature of our work as it highlights our best and drives us to seek an innovative solution to any problem that which we may encounter.

How do the technological changes influence the way you operate?

The automotive industry is a dynamic sector as it has undergone a lot of development in terms of technology which has become an integral part of any vehicle. Nissan cars are at the forefront of latest technology and advanced maintenance. Our team undergoes constant training by Nissan and internally to keep updated in order for us to meet the customers’ needs to the fullest.

How would you describe the working environment at YKA?

YKA is one of the few companies in Bahrain in which the employee can learn and move further in their career ladder based on their competency. I joined the group in 2010 as a service consultant in the car maintenance department where I had to carry out the tasks assigned to me. In addition to the discipline and initiative put forward to learn the business requirements, I have received full support from my senior management and team members.

Are there any unique or special services provided at the Nissan Service Centre which you would like to highlight?

One of the most prominent services we offer is to receive the car from the customer, whether it be it from his/her home or workplace. We also ensure alternative transportation till their car maintenance is done. Our center looks forward to being there for the customers at any time during official working hours.

How has customer feedback contributed to improvement of your services?

Our customer feedback helps us to ensure that we provide the latest and best services which meets their expectations remain competitive in the market, and it also gives us an opportunity to excel.

What do you consider your top priorities as Branch Head?

Because we deal with customers, the priority for us to ensure that their expectations are met. It should be done without any conflict of company policy or affecting the quality of work.

Alok Gupta -YKA CEO Newly Appointed CEOY.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) has announced the

appointment of Alok Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will be overseeing the company’s operations across its diverse sectors which include, automotive, heavy equipment, electronics & home appliances, HVAC, industrial & building systems, taxi service, delivery service, toys and restaurant.

Alok Gupta, a qualified Chartered Accountant, has more than 20 years of work experience in various industries. He joined YKA in 2006 and served as the Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in his previous position.

Medical CampaignY.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) hosted

a medical check-up for more than 60 employees of Almoayyed Motors at their showroom in Sitra. The medical checkup was organized in association with the Bayan Medical Centre with an aim of raising awareness of healthy lifestyle among the employees.

Blood DonationY.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA)

organized two Blood Donation Campaigns for 2018 at the Salmaniya Medical Centre on 11th May 2018 and 7th September 2018. More than 210 employees from Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) and associate companies, along with their family members participated in this noble cause.

Breast Cancer Awareness SeminarUnderlining the importance of social responsibility and spreading healthcare

awareness in Bahrain, Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) hosted a lecture on Breast Cancer Awareness for its employees. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Neetha Ravi from Royal Bahrain Hospital. The initiative was held with an aim to spread awareness about cancer and encourage women to do early screening, especially since early detection is a major contributor to successful treatment.

Bahrain Down Syndrome Society VisitYousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity visited the Bahrain Down Syndrome

Society to hand over a financial donation to help children with Down syndrome. Zahra Hamza, Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity Secretary handed the donation to Dr. Mohammed Al Mannai, General Manager at the Society.

Kerala Flood Relief DonationYousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity donated

BD 3,500 to the Kerala Samajam Society in Bahrain to help the people of Kerala affected by the devastating floods. The donation included essentials such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, baby diapers, personal care items for women, soap, disinfectant, and dry food rations to be shipped to Kerala.

Football Penalty Shootout Championship Donation

A donation was made by Alia Al Tajer from YKA to Abdul Fattah Kamal from Bahrain Special Olympics for the bronze sponsorship of the 7th Open Charity Football Penalty Shoot-out Championship, organized by the Bahrain Special Olympics to support athletes with disabilities.

Medical Checkup for Down Syndrome Children

A comprehensive medical checkup for around 20 children with Down Syndrome was held at the American Mission Hospital in Manama. The checkups included for ears, teeth, and other basic tests.

Annual Ramadan Donations

As a part of annual Ramadan donations, a total of BD 20,000 in donations were made this year which included BD 4,000 to the Red Crescent Society, BD 3,000 to Bahrain Charity Society, and the rest for various charities throughout the Kingdom. Employees were also presented with Ramadan baskets.

2018-2019 ScholarshipThe 2018-2019 scholarship

program was organized in which more than 300 Bahraini students applied. 20 of these students were selected for the program with 5 of them selected for medicine majors.

Tennis Tournament A donation was made to the tennis

tournament held during the holy month of Ramadan organized annually by the Bahrain Tennis Club in honor of the late Yousif Khalil Almoayyed. The donation was handed over by Salwa Almoayyed, Head of Charity to Mirza Al Sammak, Vice Chairman of the Bahrain Tennis Club at their head office in Manama.

Ashrafs support towards Kerala floodsAshrafs Bahrain supported relief activities in some of the flood

affected towns in the Indian state of Kerala. The relief activities were coordinated through the local self-government bodies (Panchayats) of the respective area and the staff who were in Kerala at that time. Food kits and bed mattresses were provided to one of the wholly submerged villages in Thiruvalla town and Chalakudy town.

YKA Tyres, Batteries, Lubricants & Equipment (TBLE) division opened a new showroom in Sitra with leading brands from the automotive industry. mobiles in the Kingdom of Bahrain, recently completed their re-certification and upgrade audit to ISO 9001:2015, an international standard for quality management systems. The certification audit was performed by Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide. Mr. Mario D’Costa, General Manager of Almoayyed Motors received their new certificate from Mr. Samir Ahmed, General Manager of Intertek Business Assurance Division in Bahrain during an official ceremony at their Ford Showroom in Sitra.
