OUR VISION The vision of the SCMBA is to create a self-sustaining business community fueled by those members who have created sustainable businesses and jobs. Received a two-year grant of $300,000 from Ohio Dept. of Administrative Services to hire four full time staff: CEO, Project Manager, Coordinator of Marketing and Business Development and an Administrative Assistant. Obtained office space and equipment with the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce (CRCC) throughout 2021 at no charge. Continued partnerships with the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Kent State Small Business Development, SCORE, City of Canton, Jobs of Ohio, Elite Program and Akron Urban League Minority Business Assistant Centers in which provided the following services: 1. Elite Program is an innovative business development platform and ecosystem to provide ambitious small and mid-size companies (SMEs) with elite business training, privileged access to capital, and the network needed to scale-up and make a lasting impact in their communities. The SCMBA is privileged to be the first minority business enterprise community to be invited to become a part of the ELITE ecosystem. 2. Will publish bi-monthly newsletter targeted toward the African American business community. 3. Formed a two-year pilot mentorship and sponsorship program with the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. 4. MBAC provided one on one counseling services to 66 Stark County businesses. 5. MBAC enabled two businesses to get MBE/EDGE Certified. 6. Sponsored workshops on writing a business plan; Accessing financing and how to do a business with Public Transit Authorities and Public Housing Authority. Formed partnership with Hall of Fame Village to commit to diversity and inclusion. At least 12% or more of minority contractors and vendors must be represented in upcoming HOF projects. Activated our computer lab enabling businesses to develop capability statements. Senior Citizens used the computer lab & youth used the computer lab during a Summer Camp. Equity in leveraging contracts and access to projects within our community i.e. the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Kent State University at Stark, Stark Economic Development Board and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Establish a Revolving Loan Fund to support the membership.

Helping member organizations to sustain during difficult economic seasons.

Provide workshops on various certifications for minority businesses.

Serving as an advocate for member companies allowing them information and access to area projects.

STRATEGIC PLANS & GOALSWHAT IS THE STARK COUNTY MINORITY

BUSINESS ASSOCIATION?

In the summer of 2008, efforts were made to improve communications and enhance collabora-tion between minority businesses in Stark County

and the Ohio Department of Development.

After several planning meetings, a Minority Business Conference was held in Canton to

address human resources and finance-related topics for minority business owners.

Following the great success of this conference, it was agreed that a permanent organization should be established to act in the best interests of Stark County minority business owners. Thus, the Stark County Minority Business Association was born!
