GEOSTOCK 2019 ACTIVITY REPORT3
A DENSE AND PROFITABLE YEAR ˇ Geostock SAS has maintained high levels of activity, with major projects ongoing in the Middle-East, India, Vietnam and Morocco, as well as sustained business in France with our operations at the Geosel, Geogaz and Geomethane sites.
ˇ Despite the competitiveness of the market, UGS GmbH (Germany) and Geostock Sandia LLC (USA) have increased significantly their business, thanks to their commercial efforts and successes, particularly in the areas of well disposal and CO2 storage in the USA.
ˇ Geostock Asia Pte Ltd and Geostock de Mexico SA de CV have also maintained satisfactory levels of activity in their markets. We should mention that Geostock de Mexico has succeeded in operating the Shalapa Site for 2 years without accidents; which demonstrates the professionalism of their staff and the strong HSE culture in place.
2019 saw the Group’s operating profits rise to 3.9%, against 2.5% in 2018. Nearly all affiliates have improved their operating profits, thanks to significant efforts focusing on operational excellence.
Following the above satisfactory results, 2020 was looking promising, with strong opportunities in the Middle-East, Asia, the US and Europe, as well as growing interest for Decarbonized Energy storage such as Hydrogen storage.
Unfortunately the Covid Pandemic, which started in early 2020 – and which is not over yet at the time of writing –, followed by the dramatic collapse in Oil & Gas prices, is likely to have significant adverse impacts on our business.
We are doing our best to mitigate the effects of these events and be able to bounce back as soon as they are over.
A word from the CEO2019 resulted in a significant increase in the level of activity for all affiliates. Group Sales have grown close to 100 M€, more than 15% over 2018.
Pascal BAYLOCQ Managing Director / Geostock Holding SA President and CEO / Geostock SAS
2020 was looking promising with a growing interest for Decarbonized Energy storage such as Hydrogen storage and Compressed Air.

GEOSTOCK 2019 ACTIVITY REPORT10
Development in three major areas to ensure better performance in our historical markets and the ability conquer new ones.
OPERATOR TRAINING:> The development of Geostock’s simulator
of underground storage operation in mined caverns, which reproduces operation conditions as well as incident scenarios, has been completed. The simulator is now fully operational.
AIMS SERVICES:> Various tools have been tested to build
an evolutive data base for Asset Integrity Management System (AIMS), in particular for the Well Integrity Management System (WIMS).
DEVELOPING NEW TOOLS AND NEW METHODOLOGIES AND ACQUIRING NEW KNOWLEDGE:> The impact of natural fractures on LPG mined cavern gas tightness has been investigated. Results show how fracture orientation impacts the Maximum Allowable Working Pressure for storage. Modern tools have also been tested for 3D modelling of faults around mined caverns.
> Hydromechanical modelling of gas storage in porous media has been coupled with advanced statistical analysis to identify failure modes.

A CONTINUATION OF THE EFFORTS MADE IN THIS REGARD DURING RECENT YEARS, IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION:
Continuation of our contribution to collaborative programs on hydrogen storage (ROSTOCK-H / Géodénergies) and "power-to-power" (FLUIDSTORY / ANR: study of the Electrolysis-Methanation-Oxycombustion chain). Geostock also participated in setting up the STOPIL-H2 / Géodénergies collaborative program, which aims to study hydrogen salt cavern storage; and in setting up the BLOCKFALL / Géodénergies collaborative program, dedicated to detecting block falls in salt caverns by recording wellhead pressure variations. These two programs are scheduled for 2019 and 2020.
Geostock and Geogreen are also active partners of Géodénergies as members of COST (Strategic and Technological Orientation Committee), Geostock also leads the Management Committee.
Participation, alongside our shareholder Entrepose, in the economic assessment of various "power-to-power" options.
IN ADDITION TO THESE R&D STUDIES, WE PROVIDE TECHNICAL SERVICES FOR:
The HYGREEN project (green hydrogen storage in salt caverns, in the South of France), Underground heat storage, And compressed air energy storage (CAES) in mined caverns.
Development of carbon-free energy underground storage solutions
GEOSTOCK 2019 ACTIVITY REPORT12
Geostock’s top priorities are the health and safety of its employees, respect for the environment and the prevention of major accidents. As an operator of underground hydrocarbon storage sites for third parties, we must ensure the highest safety and reliability standards for these facilities, the safety of the local community, the staff, the surrounding natural environment and the integrity of our customers’ installations.
In France, the European SEVESO III directive, which Geostock adheres to, defines a very strict framework for operating underground hydrocarbon storage facilities. Outside France, other regulations determine major accident risk management. With over 50 years of operational experience in France, Geostock applies the strictest and most emanding safety standards.
Our safety culture
Thierry Malaterre, Géogaz site in Lavéra since 2008
HSE, a state of mind
Our HSE policyZero severe accidentZero major accidentZero environmental damage
Our commitments
At a Seveso “upper threshold” site such as the Géogaz-Lavéra cavern storage facility, safety is no laughing matter. For us, safety takes on a whole new meaning in managing the major challenges we face. We assure the safety of the site and of the local community.
We have a comprehensive safety protocol to match the strong HSE culture at Geostock, the operator of the Géogaz facility.
Thierry Malaterre, HSE Manager for Geostock

GEOSTOCK 2019 ACTIVITY REPORT17
Salt cavern storage requires the presence of a significant salt deposit. The cavern is created by dissolving the salt using fresh water, or possibly sea water (leaching). Its shape and volume are established by sonar readings. The caverns are elongated in shape, several hundred meters high and several tens of meters in diameter. They are usually
located at depths of between 200 and 2000 meters and can have a volume of several hundred thousand cubic meters. The stability of the cavern is guaranteed by the right choice of geometry and continuous monitoring of the pressure, temperature and flow during operation. Its tightness results from the intrinsic properties of salt.

Leached-salt caverns
A field of this type is a porous, permeable geological formation (the reservoir) — a depleted field or an aquifer — overlain with an impermeable stratum and structured so as to ensure lateral containment. It is usually located at a depth of between 500 and 2000 meters. During the storage phase, the gas is compressed and injected into the reservoir in gaseous state through
a series of production wells. During recovery, the gas is withdrawn under the effect of its own pressure.Surface equipment include specifically compression, processing and metering facilities. Monitoring wells are used to check the position of the gas and the tightness of the reservoir.

Aquifers and depleted fields
A mined cavern consists of one or more tunnels carved out of rock (limestone, chalk, granite, etc.). The tunnels are usually located at a depth of 50 to 200 meters. Generally unlined, their tightness is based on the principle of hydrodynamic containment, which defines the depth at which the cavern needs to be located to allow for the water
naturally contained in the surrounding rocks to flow constantly towards the cavern at all points, thus containing the product inside the storage cavern. The mined-cavern technique — both with and without a lining, as applicable — may also be used for the cryogenic storage of gases having a liquefaction point below -10°C.
