We envision a day when every family, every community and every child with medical complexities has access to transitional care and the unsurpassed standards of AHK.

Lavar came to AHK Chicago for transitional care and was transferred to AHK at OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria. Lavar's family lives in Peoria, and being able to have Lavar closer to home has helped with their training as they wait for in-home nursing to be secured.

Lavar is pictured here having fun with a volunteer.

Dear Friends,

It’s been another banner year for Almost Home Kids!

n We provided transitional care for 100 children, respite care for 48 children and training for over 270 parents/caregivers

n All children at AHK for transitional care and respite care received physical and speech therapy

n AHK celebrated our 20-year anniversary

n AHK at OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria celebrated a very successful 1-year anniversary

n Over 80 engaged community, civic and corporate groups collected and donated much needed in-kind items from our wish list

n We continue our efforts to bring our model of healthcare to multiple states and children's medical centers around the country

n Video chat at AHK allows families to remotely attend important meetings regarding their child’s health

n And much more!

We could not reach our goals, provide our critical programs to children with medical complexities or support their families without your help. Thank you for the important role you play in making Almost Home Kids a successful part of the continuum of care for children with complex healthcare needs.

Sincerely,

Debbie & Josh

OutcomesWe are proud of the fact that less than 2% of children are readmitted to a hospital post 30 days of discharge from Almost Home Kids, due to a failed home health plan. This success is thanks to our unique home environment together with our community-based training.

Parents who completed the Respite Care Survey in FY 2019 reported 0% Not Satisfied, 2% Satisfied and 98% Very Satisfied.

Our Financial SummaryIn fiscal year 2019, which ran from September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2019, total AHK Program Expenses were $7.4 million, which is 2.4% over fiscal year 2018. The slight increase in expenses is primarily attributed to clinical program costs. This total includes investments toward expansion initiatives.

AHK received $3.5 million in fee-for-service revenue from the State of Illinois, third party insurance companies and cash payments. We continue to rely on philanthropy to help close the gap to support our model of care. Thanks to the generosity of our 980 donors, contributions to AHK for fiscal year 2019 totaled $1.6 million.

As the organization strives to provide critical healthcare services to children with medical complexities, we will continue to raise the necessary funds with the help of the philanthropic community.

Almost Home Kids announces $580,000 gift from the Harper Family Foundation to support early childhood developmentLargest gift in AHK’s 20 year history; brings the Harper Family Foundation’s total giving to nearly $750,000

The Harper Family Foundation has committed transformational support to fully fund the Physical & Speech Therapy Program and the Child Life Program at Almost Home Kids for a period of three years. AHK will enhance its supportive services to make a greater impact for families and children with medical complexities. AHK’s Physical & Speech Therapy Program brings therapies to children to remove any barriers to receiving services. Speech therapy is important as it helps maintain oral skills and develop communication abilities. Through the Child Life Program, AHK provides educational and emotional support for children, their families and their caregivers by fostering emotional, social and cognitive growth in the context of the child’s family, culture and development stage while building trusting relationships between the children and their families. In light of the Harper Family Foundation’s generous
