Alderney Railway

Alderney has the only working railway in theChannel Islands. It used to carry stones from thequarries to sites back in the 19th century.Nowadays, the old wagons have been replaced byLondon Underground carriages to carry visitorsfrom Braye Station to Mannez Station at the eastend of the island. It runs every Sunday from May toSeptember along with every Saturday in July andAugust. There is also anextra train everyWednesday in June andSeptember. Alderney Lighthouse

Mannez Lighthouse was commissioned in 1912.after the SS Liverpoolran aground in theadjacent Cats Bay. Inconjunction withAlderney's otherlighthouse. Casquetsand the French cap deLa Hague lighthouse.Mannez stands guardat the northernapproach to theChannel Islands with

its hazardous fast flowing waters.

The 32m high building used to have a light rangeof 24 nautical miles and the two impressive foghorns could be heard over 12 nauticalmiles away. Alderney Museum

The award winning museumprovides a history of the island from the pre-historic period to the present day. Alderney Bell Tower

The Parish Church of St Anne is home to a gloriouspeal of twelve 'Taylor' bells which are rung by adedicated team of nearly two dozen volunteers. It

is the only peal of twelve bells in the ChannelIslands. The bells sound out over the townfor both secular and religious events.Ringing a tower bell requires many hoursof practice in order to achieve sufficientmastery of the timing and to be able togenerate the intricate patterns required.

Alderney Bayeux Tapestry Finale

The Alderney Library is the home of Alderney'sfamous Bayeux Tapestry Finale. a 3m panel thatcompletes the story of the unfinished BayeuxTapestry. It was stitched by over 400 residents andvisitors during 2012 and was unveiled in April 2013by the Curator of the Bayeux Tapestry. The panelshows the major events from the conclusion of theBattle of Hastings on 14th October 1066 to thecoronation of William the Conqueror inWestminster Abbey on Christmas Day 1066.

Please find detailed below general information which we trust will answer anyqueries, together with our booking conditions which should be carefully noted.If you require further information, please ask. Your contract is with TravelsmithLtd. and we are members of ABTA and government approved ATOL licenceholders. When you make a booking you guarantee that you are authorised toaccept, and do so on behalf of your party, the booking conditions. A contractwill exist as soon as payment is received by us.

HOLIDAY COSTS Please see pages 2/3 and individual holiday pages for fulldetails of what your holiday costs include. All prices are shown as from perperson and are based on holiday commencement date and will be confirmedat the time of booking. Supplements are also per person, based on theappropriate rates valid during your holiday.

TRAVEL Air holidays are based on travel with the following airlines – AurignyAirlines, Logan Air and Flybe. All air travel is subject to the operating schedulesof the carriers (not always daily) and the conditions of carriage of the respectivecarrier. Aircraft type cannot be confirmed as it is subject to alteration at thecarrier's discretion. Should flight timings not be available when booking, thisinformation will be confirmed once details are received from the appropriateairline. Wherever possible we will try to meet your specific requirements inrespect of schedules. If it is not possible (as for obvious reasons we cannotalways comply) no refund of any monies paid will be made and you will nothave the right to cancel your booking except in accordance with our normalcancellation terms. This brochure is issued on the sole responsibility of the touroperator and does not commit any carrier whose services are used.Travelsmith Limited hold ATOL licence number 1917 and that applies to all airholidays arranged by us.

CHECK IN / CHECK OUT Normally your accommodation will be ready for youfrom 2pm on your arrival date and you are normally asked to vacate youraccommodation by 10am. Occasionally you may be able to vacate later, butplease check with your holiday accommodation management.

DURATION The arrival day at your resort counts as the first day and thedeparture day from your resort counts as the last day, regardless of timings.

SPECIAL REQUESTS Although no guarantee can be given, we will be pleasedto offer as much assistance as we can wherever possible. In the case ofdisabled clients or where for medical reasons special services are required (e.g.special diets, etc) it is necessary that full details are given to us at the time ofbooking so that we can try and help. We cannot be held responsible forproblems encountered where full written details have not been supplied to usand then subsequently confirmed in writing by us. Full information must begiven on the booking form and reconfirmed separately in writing giving detailsof any disability and the assistance required.

TELEPHONE QUOTES are all provided subject to written confirmation(including any holidays not featured in our brochure, where tailor-madearrangements apply).

DANGEROUS GOODS Airline companies have a list of prohibited articles thatare regarded as endangering the safety and security of passengers. If you areunsure of any particular item that you may wish to take, please ask.

MONEY MATTERSA booking is made by receipt of the non-refundable depositand our subsequent written confirmation. Where only a deposit is due, this willbe £100 per person, except when non-changeable and non-refundable flightshave been booked with a low cost carrier, in which case the total cost of theflights plus the deposit of £100 per person will be required. Balances are due 8weeks prior to departure date. If balance payment is not received by the duedate Travelsmith reserve the right to cancel all arrangements and imposecancellation fees in accordance with the schedule below. There is no charge fordebit cards. Should you have to cancel your holiday the following scale ofcharges will apply: 42 days or more deposit is forfeit, 41-29 days @ 80%, 28-15 days @ 90%, within 14 days @ 100%. NB: Where cancellation occurs within

42 days of travel and the % charge equates to less than the minimum charge(i.e. loss of deposit) then the higher charge will apply. Should you wish to alteryour arrangements, and assuming such alterations are possible, a £30 perperson fee will be charged. NB: Once travel arrangements have been made itmay be possible to alter the arrangements, however please note any changeswill incur higher charges. Alterations made within 6 weeks of departure may besubject to higher charges in line with our cancellation fees. Any alteration orcancellation must be notified in writing and the level of charges will be basedon the date written instructions are received by Travelsmith. It is essential thatall clients take holiday insurance cover. If the reason for your cancellation iscovered by your insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim these charges.The brochure is costed as at 8th October 2018 (based on £1 - $1.30 – SourceFinancial Times). Any variations to brochure prices (lower or higher) made priorto your booking with us will be notified at the time of booking.

CHILDREN AND INFANTS Any child reductions are based on children/infantssharing with 2 adults in a room with extra child bed(s) or cot(s). In certaininstances some hotels may make a small charge for food consumed, whereTravelsmith has only charged the relevant air fare. Such payments should bemade direct to the hotel. Where children's offers are shown at selected hotelsplease note the advice given as to whether meals are included or all meals arepayable direct at hotel. NB: Please note that in accordance with Air NavigationOrders in order to qualify for infant status, a child must be under 2 years of ageon the date of its return flight.

ACCOMMODATION in hotels and guesthouses comprises B&B (i.e. bed andbreakfast daily) or HALF BOARD (including dinner daily) which wouldcommence with dinner on the first day, terminating with breakfast on the lastday. No allowance can be given for unused accommodation or meals not takendue to temporary absence, including late arrival on the first day or earlydeparture on the last day. Where optional supplements for half board areshown, these prices are only valid if booked in advance. All holidayestablishments used throughout this brochure are registered and graded bythe Tourism Authorities of the appropriate resorts at the time of going to press.

SPECIAL DIETS Higher grade hotels usually offer a sufficient choice of menu toprovide for all tastes. However please note that in guesthouses and in mostmiddle range hotels where special diets such as vegetarian meals are requested,the menu will be very limited. If you are unsure, please ask when booking.

LIABILITY We accept full responsibility for ensuring that the arrangementswhich we have agreed to provide are in accordance with the description in thebrochure and are of a reasonable standard. In this respect, we are pleased tomake it clear that we accept responsibility for the negligent acts or omissionsof our employees and agents and of our subcontractors and suppliers. We willpay damages calculated in accordance with English legal principles in respectof the death, bodily injury or illness suffered by any member of the party duringthe holiday and caused by the negligent act or omission of our employees oragents or by one of our suppliers or subcontractors or by their servants oragents provided that they were acting within the scope of or in the course oftheir employment and on our business. Please note that there are importantconditions attached to this commitment, as follows: (i) Claims must benotified to us in writing within 28 days of the date of the scheduled completionof the holiday. (ii) The claimant agrees to assign to us their rights against asupplier or any other person relating to the claim. (iii) The claimant agrees togive his or her full cooperation in the event that we or our insurers wish toenforce the rights assigned to us or to which we are subrogated. (iv) in theevent that a member of the party should suffer illness, personal injury or deathduring the holiday through a cause unconnected with any negligent act oromission of our employees, agents, sub-contractors or suppliers, we will offerassistance including advice and guidance and, if we in our absolute discretionconsider it appropriate, financial assistance up to a limit of £5000 per bookingform. (v) In respect of carriage by air, our liability in all cases will be limited inthe manner provided by the relevant international convention. A copy of theapplicable conditions will be supplied on request.

CHANGES TO YOUR HOLIDAY In the rare event we make a major alteration toyour holiday arrangements, we will inform you as soon as possible and offer thebest available alternative or issue a prompt and full refund of all monies

received by us from each person in your party. Any alternative accommodationoffered would be of comparable or higher standard. When a major change isnotified, you will (provided you have paid the final balance) be entitled tocompensation with a rising scale of payment geared to the length of time priorto departure at which advice has been given. We shall not cancel your holidayafter the date when payment of the balance price has become due unless forreasons beyond our control or the client's non-payment of the balance.Important notes: (a) Most changes are minor and do not give any entitlementto compensation or cancellation. A major change can be defined as a changein UK airport or resort area or the time of departure or return by more thantwelve hours or to accommodation of materially lower standard than thatbooked. (b) There is no entitlement to compensation in respect of changes orcancellations amounting to force majeure, e.g. war, threat of war, riot, civil strife,industrial disputes, terrorism, natural or nuclear disasters, fire or adverseweather conditions, or the interruption of Air Traffic Control functions resultingin the cancellation or disruption of flights. If we cancel your holiday in such anevent, we will offer you a refund of all monies paid (less any non-recoverablecosts) or, if we are able to, a comparable alternative holiday, but shall be underno further liability. NB: Where holiday arrangements are disrupted as a result offorce majeure including industrial action (by those not employed byTravelsmith Ltd and any of their subsidiaries) or adverse weather conditions wewill assist wherever possible but cannot accept any liability. In certaincircumstances any extra costs may be covered by insurance, which isconsidered essential.

DELAYSTo cater for such circumstances including adverse weather conditionsplease ensure you have sufficient funds to pay for any additional expenses asthese are the client's responsibility. Furthermore, it should be noted that if thereis any loss of holiday time there cannot, under normal circumstances, be anyrefund from us. In certain circumstances these costs may be covered byinsurance, which is considered essential.

CONDUCT We should point out that with the support of ABTA (theAssociation of British Travel Agents) all hotels and airlines etc, have the right torefuse admission/transportation to any persons behaving in a disorderlymanner to the discomfort of fellow holidaymakers. Moreover any such personswill have no redress regarding refunds on tickets, etc. Furthermore, the majorityof hotels refuse to accept same sex groups. In any event more detailedinformation may be required prior to the acceptance of such bookings. We aresure that this ruling can only improve matters for the vast majority of clients.

ASSISTANCE, PROBLEMS, COMPLAINTS In the unlikely event of a problemduring your holiday, please inform the relevant supplier (e.g. hotel manager) atonce so that every opportunity is given to restore holiday satisfaction. If this isnot possible and your holiday enjoyment is affected you should contactTravelsmith without further delay - full details of our contact service aresupplied with your travel documents. We will do our utmost to resolve theproblem while you are on holiday. If you remain dissatisfied please ensure thatyou follow the matter up within 28 days of your return home by writing to ourCustomer Services Department at the Travelsmith office giving your originalbooking reference number and other relevant information. It is therefore acondition of this contract that you communicate any problem to the supplierof the services in. If you fail to follow this simple procedure we cannot acceptresponsibility as we have been deprived of the opportunity to investigate andrectify the problem. It is our policy to always assist wherever possible to resolveany problem quickly, fairly and amicably but, disputes arriving out of, or inconnection with this contract, which cannot be amicably settled, may (if thecustomer wishes) be referred to arbitration under a special scheme which,though devised by arrangement with ABTA, is administered quiteindependently by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. SWIMMING POOLSWhere we show accommodation with an outdoor pool, itmay not always be in use during early and late seasons and may not always beheated. Furthermore, pools (indoor or outdoor) may be subject to closure orrestricted use in line with regulations that may be imposed by local authoritiesat any time.

HOLIDAY INSURANCE is considered essential and all clients should beadequately insured.

PASSPORTS Whilst passports are not currently required (unless taking a daytrip to France) most carriers require photographic identification in order for youto board and also for security purposes (e.g. Passport, full new style driver’slicence, bus pass or a Citizen Card - application available from your post officeor at www.citizencard.net) NB: holders of non-British passports and/or Britishpassports issued overseas should check with the relevant consulate in casevisa/special permits are required.

HEALTH The UK NHS does not apply in Alderney and you would have to payfor medical treatment.
