2019Annual Report

To My Fellow Stockholders,

I’ve often referenced an old African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” It certainly says a lot in just a few words about the value of teamwork. Our business is the ultimate example of teamwork in action – an integrated value chain, where the decisions and output from any part of the organization directly impact another. As I reflect on what AdvanSix has accomplished in just three years, I’m proud of the foundation our more than 1,500 dedicated and talented employees have established. Together we have created a platform for long-term sustainable performance by executing our strategic priorities including safe, stable and sustainable operations, differentiated product growth and disciplined capital allocation.

The past year included several strategic investments that help position us for long-term success. We brought onstream our new natural gas boilers, created a strategic alliance with Oben Group and closed down our Pottsville films manufacturing, invested in relocating and upgrading our R&D lab, led successful anti-dumping petitions against acetone imports, and repurchased $62 million of shares during the year. Our multi-year focus to drive stability, mature our mechanical integrity programs and mitigate risk, resulted in near-record output across our caprolactam and ammonia production units, which are key operations within our integrated asset base.

In 2020, we, like most, are facing a dynamic and unprecedented environment as the coronavirus (COVID-19) impacts our daily lives – at work and at home. At AdvanSix, one of the ways we live our values is to Walk Tall, which means that we face challenges with fortitude and creativity, and that we are strong in our collective diversity and courageous in our integrity. We are proud of our long history of operations, and more so now that our industry and workforce was designated as life sustaining and essential critical infrastructure for both public health and safety as well as community well-being. We take our obligations seriously and we continue to conduct operations across our integrated value chain to produce materials to support the broader population.

Health and safety remains our top priority. We continue to strive towards a zero incident culture and will maintain our culture of transparency as we continuously seek to improve upon the many measures we have put in place to minimize risk for our people, our sites and communities, and our key stakeholders. Being recognized in January with EcoVadis’s Gold Rating is an acknowledgement of our commitment to corporate social responsibility and the great foundation we have built as an organization to continuously improve our sustainability performance. In addition, we’ve recently published our updated 2019 Sustainability Report, which highlights many ongoing initiatives at AdvanSix along with our commitment to an economic, social and environmentally sustainable future.

As we navigate through challenging times, I’m confident in our organization’s ability to deliver long-term value for all our key stakeholders. Thank you for your continued interest in AdvanSix and stay safe.
