St. Therese Mission Statement Together we will teach children to model their lives after Jesus Christ, strive for academic excellence, and develop their personal and physical selves to become positive contributing members of communities in which they live.

“Integration of religious truth and values with the rest of life is brought about in the Catholic school not only by its unique curriculum but more importantly by the presence of dedicated teachers who express an integrated approach to learning and living in their private and professional lives.” --Excerpt from To Teach as Jesus Did

“No man can reveal to you but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge. The teacher gives not of his wisdom, but rather of his faith and his knowledge. If he is indeed wise, he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.” ---Excerpt from The Prophet

“Let teachers recognize that the Catholic school depends upon them almost entirely for the accomplishment of its goal and programs.” ---Decree on Christian Education, Vatican Council II 1965

ADMISSIONS POLICIES

Registration and Admissions

Registration for students wishing to enroll or to remain enrolled in St. Therese occurs in the spring of the school year and continues through August.

New parents interested in having a son or daughter attend St. Therese must first contact the school office in order to schedule an appointment with the Head of School for a tour of the facility. The tour includes a brief observation of students in their classes along with an explanation of school life and activities. The student is then scheduled for a school visit. If the parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript and/or report card. A decision on acceptance is reached by the administration based on the parent interview, the child’s visit, and the educational information received. The Head of School reserves the right to refuse admission to any student, whether presently enrolled at St. Therese or under consideration for admission, which will not be successful academically or behaviorally at St. Therese.

Students enrolling in St. Therese for the first time must present the following information: • Birth Certificate • Baptismal Certificate (if Catholic) • Immunization Records • Previous year’s report card (if entering 1st grade or above) • Date of First Communion (if applicable) • Copy of the students Social Security Card • Academic Evaluation and or IEP

Tuition and Fees

The registration fee, when remitted upon acceptance, reserves a student’s place in a given class for the next year, provided the student meets academic and disciplinary requirements established by St. Therese. However, the payment of a registration fee DOES NOT constitute a guarantee of enrollment if academic or disciplinary requirements are not met during the current/previous school year and/or if required fees and/or tuition are not paid.

Any student registering at any time of the year must pay a full Registration Fee for the entire year.

A student is not registered until the registration fee is paid and the forms, including the registration packet, are completed and returned to the school. Registration Fee must be paid in full by the deadlines set by St. Therese. If the payment is not made by the registration deadline, there will be an additional $100.00 late fee assessed. The registration charge is non-refundable.

Technology Fee

The technology fee covers the cost of maintaining our computers, software and equipment, and tech consultant. This fee is non-refundable.

Parent Club Dues

The dues are $25.00 and are non-refundable.

Tuition Payment Options

Payment options: 1. Pay in full. 2. Sign a tuition loan with First Bank & Trust.

In case of a student’s withdrawal and/or expulsion, tuition will be pro-rated to the date of the withdrawal or expulsion.

Policies on Payments

Parents must pay all tuition and fees in full through the Tuition Loan Program at First Bank & Trust. All tuition payments should be up to date one month before the end of a quarter. If tuition is delinquent, the school will give parents until the end of the quarter (approximately four weeks) to pay the outstanding balance. If the account is still delinquent on the last day of the quarter, the school will release the student and the student’s records (transcript/ report card) to the parent/guardian.

Book Day

Book Day is held the day before school officially starts. Book Day fees will vary. All Book Day purchases must be paid in full through the First Bank & Trust portale and are non-refundable.

GAP Donation/Annual Fund

The GAP is the difference between the cost of education a student and the tuition charged.

Religious Education

The study and practice of our Catholic faith is the essence of our existence at St. Therese. The entire school attends Mass together monthly and grades K-7th attend mass weekly. The season of Advent is observed with the lighting of Advent wreaths and with the Jesse Tree tradition. Students attend the Stations of the Cross during Lent. May Crowning is held in May to honor our Blessed Mother. Students receive the sacrament of Reconciliation throughout the school year. Morning and afternoon prayers are led by students. Daily prayers and the recitation of the Rosary are also part of the school day. Students are taught awareness of the needs of those less fortunate by participating in various mission and service activities, and fund drives. Catholic parents who send their children to our school are expected to attend Church with their children every weekend. Family Living and Child Protection Catechesis are part of the school’s religious instruction program.

In addition, high school student are expected to meet certain standards in performing service hours as part of their religion class requirements. Details concerning these requirements will be distributed by the religion teachers at the beginning of the school year. The chair of the Religious Education Department will send of service hour requirements.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMICS

Students in grades Kindergarten through 7th will be graded on a quarterly system. Each quarter is comprised of a 9-week period.

Report cards will be issued 4 times a year for all grades. The signature of the parent or guardian is required on the report card summary sheet and it must be returned to school. Early primary grades will have standard-based report cards. These standards will enable a parent to understand the students level of mastery of skills taught. Students in grades 4th-7th receive traditional grades quarterly. These grades are averaged from multiple assessments including traditional and non-traditional tests/assessments, in-school and/or at home projects, class participation, daily task completion, and group collaboration. A student who misses tests, projects, and/or daily work, must arrange with his/her teacher to make up the missed work in a reasonable amount of time. If work is not made up before quarterly grades are due, that student will receive an “I” (incomplete) for the quarter. If work is not made up at all, the student’s quarterly grade will drop as a result of the incomplete work.

Progress Reports will be sent home halfway through the quarter. Progress reports serve to notify parents of the student’s progress during that quarter. These are to be signed by the parents and returned to school.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled four times a year. The dates/times of these appear on the school calendar and will be sent out prior to the conferences. Parents wishing individual conferences outside of the schedule time must contact their child’s teacher to set up a conference appointment.

In grades K-3, students are promoted based on successful completion of math, reading, and a collaborative view of emotional and developmental readiness from teachers, administrators, and parents. In grades 4-7, minimum requirements for promotion to the next grade include students passing religion, math, reading, social studies, and science. Thirty hours of tutoring or summer recovery may be required in subjects not successfully completed in grades 4-7.

High School Curriculum

The high school curriculum has been expanded, starting with the Class of 2019, to include a state approved career diploma option commonly referred to as Jump Start, as well as the TOPS diploma options.

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS

In case of bad weather or other emergency, please tune to local TV or radio stations to hear the latest bulletins on school closings. If the Archdiocesan schools and/or Jefferson Parish schools are closed in an emergency, St. Therese will also be closed.

FIREARM FREE ZONES

This is a reminder that Louisiana law provides that school properties (and within 1000 feet of the property) are firearm free zones. This law applies to both students and non-students and also applies to school-sponsored events. Law enforcement personnel are exempt from this law. School should include such notice in any school handbook, such as “This School and all school-sponsored events are firearm free zones pursuant to Louisiana law.” It is also advisable to post signs at each major point of entry to the school such as “Firearm Free Zone Pursuant to Louisiana Law.” If you would like to read the specific law, it is Louisiana Revised Statute 14:95.2.

Parents will be notified if a child is not in correct uniform or not in full uniform and could result in a detention. Repeated offenses could result in a more serious consequence and/or asking the parent to bring the correct uniform.

LOST AND FOUND

All books, school bags, and clothing should be marked with the student’s name, not initials. The school is not responsible for lost articles. Lost and found articles are sent to the office. Articles not claimed are donated to a worthwhile charity.

CAFETERIA AND LUNCHES

Students must bring their own lunch from home each day.

1. Thermos bottles are allowed if unbreakable; however, no carbonated beverages, glass, or cans are allowed.

2. No candy is allowed in school unless given by the teacher as a reward. Gum is not allowed in school.

3. Parents are not allowed to send or bring “fast food lunches” to students or into the cafeteria. Lunches brought from home must be nutritious.

4. Students are not allowed to share or taste another student’s food and drink.

Good order must be maintained in the cafeteria at all times. Teachers personally supervise the manners and deportment of the students. Students pray before and after meals.

ATTENDANCE

The school day for grades all grades begins at 8:15 a.m. and dismissal at 3:30 p.m. It is extremely important that students attend school regularly. If a student is to be absent, the parents are asked to e-mail our school secretary or call the school office before 8:10 at (504) 513-4400. Simply state your child will be absent and your request for any arrangements for work to be sent home (if applicable). Assignments and books may not be picked up during the school day because this disrupts the classes. Upon return, the student must bring a written excuse to the school secretary. School absence should be only for sickness or family emergency. Other absences are not acceptable. It is the student’s responsibility to make up assignments and tests. If possible, a student who is absent on the day of a test should be prepared to take the test upon his/her return. Make-up work for absences other than validated illness and/or family emergency is at the discretion of the Teacher and the Head of School. Poor school attendance is to be discouraged. Students who are absent for 20 days in one academic school year may not be allowed promotion to the next grade.

Students who are absent from school due to a communicable disease (measles, chicken pox, etc.) must present a doctor’s certificate upon returning to school. Students should be free of fever for 24 hours before returning to school.

Once at school, a student may not leave the school grounds unless checked out by a parent or an individual authorized by the parent and listed on the emergency form. Parents are to come to the office (not to the classroom) to pick up a child during the school day.

TARDINESS

Page 20: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

20

Parents should see to it that students arrive at school on time. Punctuality is a trait to be cultivated. Tardiness disrupts the classroom schedule and plans. Repeated tardiness indicates a lack of appreciation for the education of your child.

Any student who reports to school after morning assembly/prayers is considered tardy. A tardy student must report to the office, secure a tardy slip, and then present it to the homeroom teacher before being admitted to class. Students who have repeated unexcused tardies may be issued a consequence accordingly.

Students may not be checked out during the last 15 minutes of the school day.

ILLNESS

If a student is ill in the early morning hours, he/she should be kept at home until he/she is well enough to attend school. A student should be free of fever/vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. In case of illness, the student will be made comfortable until a parent can be contacted. In the event the parent cannot be reached, the person whose name appears on the emergency form will be called. Please keep the information on the form up to date.

MEDICATION

If a student has any serious illness or handicap or is on any type of medication, it is essential that the Head of School and the Teacher be notified of this at the opening of school. This notification will be kept on file. After notification, any medication must be kept in the school office, not in the student’s possession.

Only medication prescribed by a licensed physician or dentist and dispensed by a registered pharmacist will be administered during school hours by authorized personnel. “Over the counter” medication (acetaminophen, ointments, cold tablets, cough syrups, etc.) will not be given unless prescribed by a licensed physician and labeled by a licensed pharmacist with the proper directions. The form on the titled “Request for School Personnel to Administer Medication” must be completed and must accompany the medication. The form can be found in the appendix of this document. Teachers may not dispense medicine, so please bring it to the office on a daily basis with the exception of medication for ADD. A weekly supply may be brought to the office. Students should not transport medication at any time.

APPOINTMENTS AND MESSAGES

Page 21: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

Parents may not go to the classroom to talk with the teachers during the school day. Please do not conference with teachers while they are on duty.

Only messages of vital importance will be relayed to students during class hours. If through urgent necessity a parent comes to school to deliver a message, the parent must report to the school office.

Notes requesting early dismissals for doctors appointments, etc., should be sent to the front office in the morning. The parent should call for the child in the office and must sign the child out. The parent may not go directly to the classroom. The child will come to the office. If a child is returning to school that same day, the parent must bring the child to the office and sign him/her in.

Please make every effort to schedule doctor appointments outside of school hours.

CELL PHONES MAY NOT BE USED DURING THE SCHOOL DAY OR IN BEFORE AND AFTER CARE.

Parents are asked not to bring forgotten books, lunch, PE clothes, etc. to the office if the child forgets it. The students must learn responsibility for their belongings and duties. Items brought by the parent will not be delivered to the student except in cases of emergency.

DAMAGED TEXTBOOKS

Students should make a special effort to take proper care of their textbooks, workbooks, and notebooks. Textbooks must be kept free of pencil or ink marks. If a book is lost or damaged through carelessness, the student will be held responsible and payments will have to be made. Teacher will instruct the students as to the proper care of the textbooks.

Students may not be checked out the last 15 minutes of the school day. Parents are to pick up their student no later than 3:50 unless student attends After Care. Late arrival could result in the assessment of an After-Care fee.

Parents are asked not to conference in the pick-up line. (Cell Free During Dismissal)

Students are to leave school grounds through the school yard gates. Students who walk home or to another location must have written permission from their parents on file in the office.

If your child walks, please help your child follow these guidelines:

1. Look for cars in both directions before crossing the street. 2. Take a safe route to and from school. 3. Never accept a ride from a stranger. 4. Go directly home from school unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

Page 23: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

23

No student is allowed back into the buildings for books or forgotten items without the supervision of a teacher. Students are to accept the responsibility of having all books and belongings before leaving school. Parents are not allowed to enter the building for forgotten items.

If your child is going home with a friend or by some way other than the usual means, please send a note to the office that morning stating the details.

BUS RIDERS

St. Therese offers morning and afternoon bus services to its students with pick up points at Shaw High School and Oakwood Mall in Gretna and the Archdiocesen. Details concerning this service may be obtained through the office.

Problems regarding discipline on the bus should be brought to the attention of the Head of School. Repeated discipline problems on the bus will result in a suspension or termination of bus privileges. Students must report on time and must remain with their parent or guardian at designated points where buses stop to receive passengers. All safety precautions must be observed while waiting for the bus and when leaving the bus. Once a child boards the bus and is traveling to school, he/she is to abide by all bus and school rules and regulations. No food or drink is allowed on school bus. Students must remain seated while on the bus.

(If our numbers drop below 20 students you will receive a two week notice of cancellation of service)

PARTIES

No invitations to individual parties are to be distributed to a select group in a classroom or on the school premises. A child may distribute invitations to the entire class or a girl to every girl in her class, or a boy to every boy in his class.

If you would like to send cupcakes or individual snacks (no treat bags allowed) to celebrate your child’s birthday, please notify the teacher (elementary and middle school teachers) about a week in advance. You may then bring them to the office on this day and we will deliver them to the classroom. Teachers will distribute these snacks.

High school students may share their treats with classmates at break time.

Please do not send or bring flowers or balloon bouquets to the students at school.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Page 24: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

24

Child care is available before and after school from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. An hourly fee is charged. A fee schedule and further information may be obtained through the office.

No student will be allowed to leave After Care unless signed out by a parent or guardian. If someone other than a person listed is to pick up a student, the parent should send a note or notify the office as soon as possible. The person must present his/her driver’s license when picking up the child.

Parents are reminded that this is a service and that you should be prompt in picking up your children. An additional fee per minute will be assessed for any student who remains after 6:00 p.m. Students admitted to the program must be cooperative, respectful and obedient to the supervisors in charge or they will lose the privilege of attending.

DISCIPLINE

St. Therese strives to be a child-oriented school teaching Christ-like behavior and providing an environment that will enhance their Christian commitment and their self-image. The aim of discipline is the power of self-control in all aspects of life. Experience shows that without self-denial, authoritative guidance, and discipline, no child can develop sound character, responsibility, and citizenship.

St. Therese teaches its students to take responsibility for their actions by being given clear consequences. Teachers formulate their classroom discipline plans and inform students and parents of their rules and regulations governing class/school and the penalty that will accompany infractions of the rules.

The key person to maintaining classroom discipline is the classroom teacher. The causes and difficulties are constantly being evaluated through open communication among students, parents, and administration. When appropriate, remedial measures are employed to bring about the best possible results for each child concerned.

Good discipline originates in the home. The parent is the first teacher of the child and should help the child develop good behavioral habits and proper attitudes toward school.

A parent should:

• Recognize that the teacher takes the place of the parent while the child is in school.

• Teach the child respect for law and authority, the rights of others, and private and public property.

Page 25: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

DETENTION

It may be necessary, in some cases, to keep a student before or after school for detention because of behavioral problems. Parents will be notified in advance. Failure to attend an assigned detention can result in suspension.

Saturday detentions may be issued at times for repeated misbehavior. These are served on a designated Saturday under the supervision of the Head of School or designee.

Detention offenses include but are not limited to: 1. Lying, cheating, forgery (1st offense) 2. Minor fights, encouraging fights or any horse play 3. SUSPENSION

In extreme cases, a suspension may be employed. This student will be kept from the company of his/her peers while doing teacher-assigned work. A suspension may be held in school or out of school at the discretion of the Administration. All work grades must be completed before the student is re-admitted to the classroom. Any daily grades given during this period are to be recorded as “0.” Tests may be made up at student’s request with acceptable time arrangements with the teacher, at the discretion of the Administration. A suspension carries with it an automatic probation period. When the suspension is over, the parents must meet with the Head of School and determine a course of action to prevent a recurrence of the misconduct. While on probation, if a student proves, by continued misconduct, that he is unwilling to correct himself, he is subject to expulsion.

The following are among reasons for automatic suspensions, and depending upon the degree, may merit expulsion: 1. Disrespect to a teacher or staff member

EXPULSION

Expulsion is an extreme measure which is taken after all other efforts have failed; or it is sometimes used for certain acts of misconduct which are flagrantly opposed to Christian behavior. It is not necessary for a student to be suspended before he/she is expelled. Expulsion requires that a student be dismissed from St. Therese Academy.

Acts of misconduct that may warrant expulsion are: 1. Possession, distribution, and/or using illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages either on campus or at any off campus school sponsored activity 2. Carrying a firearm or weapon on school property or to any school sponsored activity. The incident will be reported to the authorities based on Act No. 197. 3. ARCHDIOCESE OF NEW ORLEANS

ANTI-BULLYING POLICY

I. Purpose/Rationale

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them. It is to just such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs.”

Mark 10:14

Acknowledging that all of creation is rooted in the teachings of Christ, our Savior, the Archdiocese of New Orleans establishes an Anti-Bullying Policy that is rooted in the social teachings of the Church. We recognize these principles:

• God created each person as a unique individual, created in the image and likeness of God and endowed with undeniable dignity. (Genesis 1:27)

• As children of God it is our destiny to grow in “wisdom, age and grace.” (Luke 2:52)

• Catholic Social Teaching perceives an obligation to work to create conditions in which the unique dignity of each person is respected and all human rights are protected. (Luke 4:18-19)

Page 33: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

33

The Archdiocese of New Orleans is committed to exposing all students to the teachings of the Catholic Church in order that they may reveal Christ to the world. Our goal is to nurture generations that are cooperative, unselfish, respectful and tolerant of others. Our educational approach is characterized by the integration of Catholic Truths ad values within the framework of the learning experience. Therefore, we are committed to providing a loving, positive, and safe learning environment for all students.

Bullying has a negative effect on the faith community, creates a climate of fear, and inhibits students’ ability to learn. Bullying may destroy respect for the dignity of the student, may undermine the Catholic atmosphere of the school, and may deprive the student a safe and aggressive and derisive behavior, and may adversely affect the long-term emotional and social development of the bully.

Individuals who are bullied may begin to develop a perceived lack of value and self-esteem and experience feelings of isolation. They may have difficulty in the learning process and worry about personal safety. A person who is bullied may have trouble establishing and maintaining long-term relationships. Ultimately, a person who experiences bullying may become angry and aggressive or develop deep-seated emotional or psychological problems.

Jesus Christ clearly commands us to “love one another as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39) Therefore, the Archdiocese of New Orleans adopts an Anti-Bullying Policy in order to preserve the dignity of all and to further promote the Gospel and teaching of Christ.

II. Scope

The Archdiocese of New Orleans believes that any and all forms of bullying are unacceptable behaviors. Therefore, all statements or actions of student-on-student bullying made at any time, including on campus, during or at school-sponsored events, while traveling to or from a school-related activity, or off-campus, will not be tolerated. All students, teachers, and other school employees shall take appropriate measures within the scope of their individual authority to prevent bullying.

III. Definition of Bullying

Bullying behavior is defined as repeated and persistent verbal, written, physical, or psychological action, implied action or communication intended to cause harm, fear or distress to another person (or group of persons). An imbalance of power between the aggressor and the target is often involved. Bullying is a means of control and may be carried out directly through physical, verbal, written, or electronic means, or indirectly through social and emotional aggression. Bullying includes any of the foregoing by a person even if the person did not initiate any of the foregoing but perpetuates it.

Page 34: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

34

Examples of bullying, as defined above, may include, but are not limited to:

Verbal (overt) Physical (overt) Social/Emotional (covert) Name-calling/Put downs Hitting Relational Aggression Insults Kicking Manipulating Friendships Racial Comments Spitting Gossip Harassment Pushing Exclusion Sexist Comments Inappropriate Gestures Intimidation Teasing/Taunting Tripping Written Notes Threatening/Extortion Stealing Electronic Misuse/Text Messages (Cyberbullying)

In addition, retaliation in response to bullying will not be tolerated, and any such retaliation will be dealt with accordingly.

IV. Reporting Bullying

The principal or the principal’s designee is responsible for receiving complaints of alleged bullying. All school-based employees are required to report alleged bullying to the principal or the principal’s designee. All other members of the school community including students, parents/guardians, volunteers, and visitors are encouraged to report bullying.

Any member of the school community who has information that bullying has taken place may file a report of bullying, whether a victim or witness. Any student (and/or the parent or guardian on that student’s behalf if the student is a minor) who believes he/she is a victim of bullying is strongly encouraged to report bullying in writing to a school official.

False reports of or retaliation for bullying also constitutes violations of this policy.

Administrators/principals/designee(s) should document in writing any complaints about bullying.

V. Investigating and Responding to Bullying

The Head of School bears the ultimate responsibility for investigating, complaints of bullying. If the Head of School so chooses, she or he may designate another member of the administrative team to act as her or his designee.

Investigation of complaints of bullying should consist of personal interviews with the various individuals who may be involved or have pertinent information regarding the alleged bullying. Interviews with alleged victim, the alleged perpetrator, and al witnesses will be conducted

Page 35: 2019-2020 St. Therese Student Handbook · parents are interested in placement for their child, the parents provide St. Therese with the child’s latest academic evaluation and transcript

35

separately. At no time shall the alleged victim and the alleged perpetrator be interviewed together.

When interviews are complete and all information collected, the Head of School or his or her designee will determine whether the actions complained of constitute “bullying” as defined in this policy and, if so, referral of such to the proper disciplinary authority within the school.

Conduct that is determined to be bullying in nature will generally warrant some sort of disciplinary action in accord with the school’s disciplinary policy. Disciplinary consequences should be sufficiently severe to attempt to deter violations and to appropriately address prohibited behavior.

In accord with the school’s disciplinary policy, consequences and appropriate remedial action for bullying may include, but may not be limited to:

Community service hours Written punish work Loss of privileges Detention Suspension Expulsion

In keeping with the teachings of Christ, corporal punishment is unacceptable within the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Students found to be engaged in bullying behavior should be referred to counseling to address the underlying causes of the inappropriate behavior.

VI. Training and Preventive Education

To enhance the education and formation of our students, school must actively promote positive student behavior while preventing inappropriate behavior. Therefore, schools within the Archdiocese of New Orleans are required to:

1) Adopt an Anti-Bullying Policy to be included in the school’s student handbook consistent with this policy; 2) Provide professional continuing education for all faculty and staff that addresses an increased awareness of the problem of bullying and systematic program for addressing the problem in the particular school; 3) Educate parents and other school community members, including but not limited to teachers and employees, of the school’s Anti-Bullying Policy; and, 4) Students should be taught that as bystanders of bullying behavior, they have a moral obligation to defend the target through the use of supportive words and non-violent actions.

The responsibility for the implementation of the program rests with the Principal in coordination with the Pastor of the Parish, if the school is associated with a parish.

VIII. Yearly Review of Resource and State Laws

Principals shall be responsible for a yearly review of their school’s Anti-Bullying policy to ensure continued consistency with this policy and state law.

IX. Applicability of State Laws

This policy is not intended to supplant state law insofar as certain actions that meet the definition of bullying as defined herein may also result in certain persons who are mandatory reporters having to report certain matters to law-enforcement authorities or certain state agencies depending on the circumstances. For example, but without limitation, certain actions may require that they be reported as abuse according to state law. The proper Archdiocesan authority should be consulted depending on the nature of the alleged actions.
