Ordering? What does that mean?

There are certain terms used in this portfolio, the following can assist customers in understanding their contractual arrangements with BWD, especially in relation to the provision of separate freight services.

UPCmeans number of individual units per carton.

WS or Wholesalemeans the wholesale price of Goods and includes a freight component, calculated as a charge under a separate contract but excludes WET and GST.

OP or On-Premisemeans product is only available for sale in cafes, restaurants, pubs and/or clubs and isn’t available to be sold in retails outlets such as liquor brands, drive through’s and/or retail outlets

LUCmeans landed unit cost and the basis of calculating the LUC is set out in the terms of trading. For the avoidance of doubt, the LUC is a global charge that includes separate contracts for Goods and the provision of freight, which is at the customer’s option.

WETmeans Wine Equalisation Tax as defined and calculated under the tax law.

GSTmeans Goods and Services Tax as defined and calculated under the tax law.

Freightmeans, subject to the terms of trading, the charge calculated under a separate contract, that the Customer has not declined and is for the delivery of Goods ex-warehouse to the customer’s specified address. The customer has the option to decline freight, in which case, no charge for freight will apply, and is accordingly deducted from the LUC.

Retention of Propertymeans ownership of Goods remaining with BWD. Following full payment for the Goods, customers obtain good title to them provided any other conditions specified in the Terms and Conditions of Trade are satisfied. Great passions are often sparked by little seeds. The history of Apollonio winery dates back to 1870, in the aftermath of the Italian unification. It was in the south of the Salento region of Puglia – where most people made a living out of wine – that the story of Apollonio’s family began; such has succeeded in exporting Salento’s high-quality wine tradition all over the world thanks to its passion and hard work

Belstar Prosecco is owned by Bisol, wine producers in Valdobbiadene for five centuries.

The Bisol family is in the heart of the Prosecco and Cartizze production zone – the prestigious Cartizze hills.

Bisol’s vineyards total 177 hectares spread out over 35 plots immersed in the steep hills that lead from Valdobbiadene towards Conegliano. The land is extremely fragmented and studded with small plots, so much so that the average size of each property is little more than a hectare.

The first thing you might notice about Belstar Proseccos is the irresistible bottles, but what’s inside is even better.www.belstar.it

BrockenchackEden Valley SA

The property, a working vineyard for over a century, was then producing Riesling and Shiraz grapes, boasting what is thought to be some of the oldest Riesling vines in Australia, planted back in 1896, alongside Shiraz vines dating back to 1927. Following their first 2008 vintage of a tiny 37 dozen, ‘Jack Harrison’ Shiraz (just to see what hey had), their excitement only grew when the exceptional quality of the wine spoke for itself.

James Halliday RatingsMackenzie William 1896 Eden Valley Riesling - Rating 94 30, 53 and 120yo vines were all employed, the latter some of the oldest riesling vines in the country. It’s a dry, crisp, textural wine with brine, florals, bath salt and citrus flavour combining to form a complex impression. There’s a slate-like character here too. In short it walks to the beat of its own drum.

Zip Line Single Vineyard Eden Valley Shiraz - Rating 92 97% shiraz, 3% cabernet sauvignon. French oak, 10% new. Dressed up and all ready to go. Rich, ripe blackcurrant with choc-coffee and gum leaf notes. The proportions are generous, the tannin has a bit of strut to it, and it finishes warm and hearty.

Di Giorgio Family WinesCoonawarra SA

The Di Giorgio family farm and vineyard established in 1956 covers a vast area and in 1989 the family set aside four hectares on their Lucindale farm for vines. After much consideration of microclimate, average sunlight hours, water supply and soil testing, the first two hectares of Pinot Noir and two hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon were planted. As a result of its initial success, the family gradually developed the vineyard to its 126 hectares with the final planting in 1998. The varieties planted now encompass Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

During the nineties, the fruit was purchased mainly by the large winemaking companies based on Coonawarra and the Limestone Coast. In 1998, the family decided it was time to produce their own bottled wines from the family’s vineyards and to market these wines throughout the world. Initially, the wines were produced at a nearby winery by a contract winemaker. Then in March 2002, through a stroke of fortune, the family became proud owners of the second oldest winery in the world famous Coonawarra district.

James Halliday RatingsCabernet Sauvignon - Rating 94

Harvested in two batches on 29 Feb and 5 Mar, fermented separately for 8 and 27 days

respectively, matured in French oak (15% new) for 18 months. Interesting wine. The length of

fermentation and the gap between pickings have produced a medium-bodied, savoury wine with just a hint of minty/wintergreen, outweighed by

the freshness and cassis flavours of the long palate - all in all, cool climate references.

Tempranillo - Rating 94 Includes 4% grenache, open-fermented, pumped over twice daily, 10-day ferment, pressed to used

French hogsheads for 10 months maturation. Although the vines are young (7yo), this suggests the site has great potential. There is truly lovely

cherry fruit on the fresh light to medium-bodied palate thanks in part to the controlled alcohol;

the finish has gently savoury tannins that tie the parcel up ever so neatly.

James Halliday RatingMcLaren Vale Shiraz - Rating 95From several McLaren Vale vineyards, open-fermented with heading down boards, matured for 16 months in French and American hogsheads (25% new). This deeply coloured shiraz is a great example of McLaren Vale’s synergistic union with the variety. Dark black fruits, licorice, spice and dark chocolate all add to the palate along with powdery tannins from both fruit and oak.

James Halliday RatingDevils Whisker Shiraz - Rating 94Good colour; a very attractive medium-bodied regional shiraz with varietal black fruits, ripe tannins and integrated oak all singing harmoniously from the same page. Its balance is such that this will drink well at every point along the way.

Mazi Grenache Rosé

Following a cool fermentation in stainless steel vat, the finished wine displays an elegant mix of raspberry and strawberry flavours together with musk and Asian spice aromatics. Due to the early picking of fruit, the wine maintains a focused natural acid profile and a fine line of tannin to carry the flavours through the mouth.

Mazi Limited Release Rosé

The fruit was gently whole bunch pressed to delicately extract the spice driven, savoury juice synonymous with Mourvedre grown

in the Vale. The very pale salmon hues are the result of the gentle extraction and minimal skin contact prior to fermentation.

Cool fermentation to dryness in stainless steel vat, the wine spent 5 months in old French oak casks to impart subtle oak texture and

build up palate complexity.

The final wine displays a complex layer of stone fruits, gentle hints of blood orange, sage and grapefruit zest underpinned by a fine grip of

tannin and driven through the finish by tightly held acidity.

One of his first words was ‘tractor’ and ever since he saw his first tractor on the property he was hooked and has loved every aspect of the winemaking process. It is no surprise that he is following in the footsteps of his parents, Kevin and Helen.

Charlie’s first offering was a single vineyard shiraz that owes everything to the noises that made it, yet it sits silently in its bottle. It is only when you have the wine in your mouth that you can really appreciate the noise that will silently speak to you of terroir, history and love - hence the name ‘Silent Noise’. Terres de Saint-LouisProvence France

Encircled by the Côtes de Provence, the Coteaux Varois en Provence appellation, ten times smaller than its big sister, has a very specific character, due to its terroir and very unique climate. The vines grow at between 200 and 500 metres altitude, where the winters are harsh and the summers extremely hot, with cooler nights. This alternation of temperatures allows the grapes to ripen slowly and gently, preserving all their aromas. The work in the vineyards has been AgriConfiance certified since 2007.

Carafe & Tumbler Pinot Shiraz - Rating 92It’s a bit more ‘serious’ than its moniker might suggest; this is clovey and firm with spiced cherries and plum notes making its quality obvious. You could treat this as a carefree red and drink it young, it has that covered, but the overall balance and shape suggest that this will mature well over the medium term, if not longer.

Estate Rosé - Rating 94A shiraz rose made from the ground up (half the estate block was picked 2 weeks earlier than the main shiraz harvest specifically for this wine). The edge of salmon is a fact, its cause debatable, especially in the context of 50/50% barrel/tank fermentation. Both the mouthfeel and flavour are yet another face of the glorious vintage.

Estate Shiraz - Rating 96From estate vines planted in ‘96, hand-picked, foot-stomped to leave 50% whole bunches, wild-fermented, matured in French oak. An exceptionally intense wine with great length born of that intensity. Maybe the fruit taken for the Rose was selectively picked bunch by bunch, not row by row. French and American oak has joined with firm tannins to provide some of the texture and structureof this remarkable wine.
