Conference Description: The topics, such as how to effectively utilize emerging new technology such as cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, UHD to facilitate media convergence strategy, how to make content distribute multiplatform simultaneously, so that trustworthy information will be able to access by the ending consumer at the first time, are still quite hot in the global broadcasting professionals’ community. Content users are more looking to experience personalized information via platform, such as smart tablet, laptop, smart TV and etc. How to maintain and increase users are the first priority for broadcasting executives, because that directly impacts the revenue income of the TV stations. In China, from province to town, in response to central government’s demand, all TV stations are learning very hard to implement the right technology to establish its own media convergence center to make sure the trustworthy information can be delivered via multiplatform in the fastest speed. The technology the local TV station will implement, such as cloud, may also create positive impact to local society in building smart community, even smart city. Topic: Thoughts on Future Development of 4K/8K/UHD on Smart Device About Speaker: Wenhua Ding, born in April 1956, graduated from the Communication Engineering College of Communication University of China in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in television engineering. After graduating from university, he joined CCTV. He served as deputy director of the CCTV Broadcasting Department, director of the broadcasting department, deputy director of the broadcast transmission center, director of the broadcast transmission center, and chief engineer of CCTV. In 2013, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Information and Electronic Engineering. He has won 1 first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 outstanding contribution awards of provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress award, and 13 first prizes of provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress award. In 2007, he became the first technical expert in China to be awarded the “Outstanding Contribution Award for Broadcasting Industry in the Asia-Pacific Region” by ABU, and won the “He Liang He Li Science and Technology Innovation Award”, “National Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Experts”, and “Wang Xuan’s Outstanding Science and Technology Excellence” Talent Award and other honorary titles. In 1984, he participated in the construction of the CCTV color TV center (current site) TV technology system, responsible for the design and construction of the color TV center broadcast system, and developed China's first color TV automatic broadcast control system. Since the mid-1990s, he has been responsible for organizing the completion of all the major TV broadcasts of CCTV, including major events such as the previous Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics, as well as major events such as the return of Hong Kong, the return of Macao, and the National Day broadcast. After 2000, he presided over the research and development and created a networked production and broadcasting system for a new generation of TV stations with

independent intellectual property rights in China. About Speaker:

Masakazu Iwaki is on loan to NHK Engineering System Inc. a subsidiary company of NHK. He is promoting practical use of latest technologies such as AI, AR/VR, 8K developed by NHK. He was Deputy director of Science & Technology Research Laboratories (STRL), NHK from June, 2018. He was also Head of Secretariat for AI promotion, STRL, NHK. During his tenure, he has supervised to introduce AI technologies to broadcasting industry. Prior to his appointment, Iwaki was Head of the Human Interface Research Division in STRL and controlled research and development of human interface technologies to improve media accessibility from 2015 to 2017. He chaired the ABU (Asia pacific Broadcasting Union) technical committee from 2014 to 2018. Mr Iwaki joined NHK in 1990. From 1994 to 2008, he worked as a research engineer of acoustics in the STRL.

Session Description:

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to dramatically change the style of program and news production by enabling new technologies such as image analysis, speech recognition, speech synthesis and text big-data analysis. In 2016, NHK aggregated our research outcomes of AI technologies for over 30 years and established a cross-functional research team, Smart Production Lab, in NHK Science and Technology Research Laboratories as a base for promoting working-style reform by efficient program production and accelerating interdepartmental cooperation and practical application for user-friendly broadcasting. I will introduce latest examples of our project.

He graduated from the Department of Radio Electronics of Peking University in 1969. He graduated from Peking University with a master's degree in optical communication in 1981. In 1981, he taught at the Department of Television Engineering of the Beijing Broadcasting Institute. He was the head of the Department of Television Engineering and the director of the Training Center of the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television. Korean Broadcasting System Topic: The Current Situation of Media Convergence in KBS

About Speaker: Mr. Koh Woo Jong received a master’s degree of electronics from Hanyang University. Since he joined KBS Technical Research Institute in 1992, he has developed such as HD broadcasting, Data broadcasting and Satellite broadcasting. From 2001 to 2004, he joined SkyLife(commercial satellite broadcasting company) to install the broadcasting center and to develop the set-top-boxes. After he returned to KBS, he worked for workflow optimization. He is now working for Media infrastructure division. Session Description: The media environment in Korea is undergoing a radical change. Viewers, who had mainly consumed media content on TV until several years ago, are now consuming content on smartphones in mobile environments due to the increase in smartphone penetration and the commercialization of 5G. High resolution only service such as HD, 3DTV, and UHD have a limit to get the viewers' choice. KBSWorld's service in Youtube continues to grow more than 10 million subscribers this year, and shows that the “Korean Wave” continues to grow. Now, KBS content is easily available on YouTube such as dramas, entertainments and documentaries. The number of subscribers is growing rapidly. It is expected that terrestrial companies including KBS and telecommunicationscompany have started OTT service and grow into powerful killer content in the 5G era. News is also being quickly delivered to viewers via SNS such as YouTube and FaceBook, and news is communicating with viewers in various forms such as “reporter who reads comments”. Now, the News & viewers are communicating together.

Consumption of Radio users through SNS is rapidly growing. And various types of content production and consumption are spreading through new technologies such as 360 ° VR. With the successful launch of UHD terrestrial broadcasting and stabilization of ATSC 3.0 technology, IP-based additional services such as ESG(Electronic Service Guide) and Tiviva have been developed with combination of existing RF-based services, and attempts to merge TV screens and mobile screens are being promoted. These new attempts show a meaningful response from viewers, and the effectiveness of “TV + mobile service” is being confirmedin KOCOPIE-TV and KOCOPIE-nonTV.

About Speaker: Agnes is the COO and co-founder of GliaCloud, an AI video solution provider empowering the media and advertising industry to turn their stories into videos with professionalism and ease. About Speaker: Dr Peter Siebert received his M.Sc. degree in 1984 and his Ph.D. degree in 1989 in physics from the University in Frankfurt, Germany. In addition he holds a degree in economics from the University in Hagen, Germany and an MBA from the Open University Milton Keynes, UK . Since May 2009 he is with the DVB Project Office in Geneva, where he is responsible for all technology related aspects of the DVB organization. Before this he has been with Philips Kommunikations AG (PKI AG) in Nürnberg/Germany, SES-ASTRA in Luxembourg and Siemens Schweiz AG in Zürich/Switzerland. In his professional career he has been working on all aspects of audio-video transmission such as video transmission over telecommunication networks (PDH/SDH), satellite and IPTV networks. He has been responsible for a number of ETSI specifications in the area of satellite transmission as well as for DVB standards. He holds several patents for various aspects of audiovisual data transmission.

Session Description: Over the years there have been several attempts to deliver broadcast TV to handheld devices, and for various reasons these efforts have not been successful. Now 5G is the new technology to enable delivery of broadcast video to mobiles. This contribution will provide an overview of the current status of 5G broadcast specifications and will compare its transmission performance as well as relevant commercial aspects with already established delivery schemes, such as DVB-T2. Finally, a snapshot of the on-going 5G discussions in DVB will be presented.

About Speaker: Dane Smith has more than 18 years of experience as a producer and innovator in visual effects and digital entertainment production. Across his career, Smith has managed the delivery of over 100 studio and independent projects ranging from live-action and animated features, to television series and emerging media platforms, including the motion pictures: Deadpool, Warcraft, Transformers: Age of Extinction, The Last Jedi, Aquaman, Captain Marvel among others. As an OTT Production manager, he has produced work for top episodic shows such as Game of Thrones, The Man in the High Castle and Star Trek. Smith was visual effects producer on the acclaimed stop- motion animated feature Anomalisa, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as Golden Globe and Annie Award nominations, in 2016. Smith has also contributed to the evolution of 3D stereoscopic production and conversion with projects like Deepsea Challenge for James Cameron, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and 2 and Titanic. In 2015, he expanded his interests to virtual reality, producing VR-presented episodes of Stan Lee and Kapow Entertainment’s Cosmic Crusaders VR, and winning a 2017 Telly award in the process. His development of business platforms for VR and AR have included work with Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, The UFC, and many major brands.
